Bulldog Cafè...sweet memories. Did we go there for the same reason? (I mean the fresh delicious fruity milkshakes? :t ). Ah: I've been robbed on the Oude Zijds Voorburgwal by three fellows with knives in 1989. But they were italian!!! Good on you guys made peace after misunderstanding. These flames wouldn't happen if we DB folks could sit talking on a beach as the friends we are.

Back on topic: does anyone know any news about the girls of the italian team at the freediving Worlds? They have potential to be competitive, but did they already compete? No news at all on our media...

I'll try and post some announced depth for tomorrow after I speak to my girlfriend who is down there competing in the Greek team. Unfortunately I have to agree with the people that have mentioned that the news they get is of a very dissorganised competition.
33m pool at 21C with two lanes for the WC...with 120 athletes...come on...
I also heard about problems with CWT training dives with rope lengths being wildly off (A member of the Greek team completed a dive and his D3 showed he dove 12m deeper than the depth he had asked for) and training boats not being available on the official training days (team Greece ended up hiring a boat the first day)...

I hate to be all negative here especially because there are some people very close to me trying to have fun and do their best at the WC as we speak but I doubt the organisation on the competition days will be any better than it has been these last 4 days.

We can only wait and see

PS. For all the guys and gals competing down there: Just try and have fun and enjoy your dives...the conditions might not be the best but you are all on the same boat...

Despite the chaos, there are a lot of competent, experienced people over there at the moment. Hopefully things come together well at the final hour.

As an aside, the main pool we practice in here is 33.3 metres. It's a great length for both DYF and DNF, assuming you don't have the luxury of 2 pools (50m for fins and a 25m for no fins being ideal obviously).

Also, a cold pool for statics would be highly preferable to a warm one from my perspective - a bit less initial comfort, but I'd assume we'd see much better performances.

And yes guys and galls be very carefull in Amsterdam. I am born and raised here and live right in the center 00 meters from the dam square. Can be a bit tricky for tourists , but for sure can be a great place to visit. Have been living here for 40 years now and have seen it all but still like it. And NO in coffee shops the main thing to get is NOT coffee ;-)

This all comes down to money.

We have ZERO budget to cover events (believe it or not we are not rolling around in cash) and need to work with the organisers to ensure that we can cover an event well in advance.

The Blaine organisers worked with us to get good coverage, Kirk works with us for Cayman (or the Worlds in 2004), DEMA work with us for the trade show coverage, and so on...

Despite many attempts to communicate with the organisers of the Worlds this year we couldn't get an arrangement in place in time hence why we have no coverage of the event.

It is actually a regular problem for us with AIDA competitions where they do not consider having us come in and cover the events. Often we have to rely on athletes to provide snippets of info to us to be able to provide any news at all.

Totally appreciate the $ (& comuncations) issues Stephan. However would it at least be possible to have current world championship thread(s) up in the Sub fora? Having threads from 2003 and 2004 events doesn't feel... current.

I Can only agree with Stavros ,cause me girlfriend is also down there competing and I've got almost exactly the same reports by phone from her last night regarding the organisation and various mishaps.
Hopefully thees mishaps is same for everyone down there.

Regarding the "tellie"-broadcasting it's to bad that it's only limited to Egyptian channels now when they got such a good setup of cameras etc.

When it comes to the official website I can only say that it is in me eyes a really weak effort from the official crew so far.:naughty
I had expected more (when it comes to the official website,) from an official organisation especially when we are talking about such a big event (keep in mind this is the WC we're talking about) even if it's a "narrow" sport.

Until a few days ago, I totally forgot there was a world championship happening!

I'm not blaming anyone in particular for the lack of coverage.

What I can say is that being an owner of a diving products company, I would not want to sponsor anyone or anything related to such a competition... considering no one knows it is even going on...

Guys and Gals I am sorry to be reporting the bad news again but our hopes for everything pulling together on competition day (as far as organisation goes) did not happen...1st day of CWT competition today and my girlfriend just send an SMS message saying that all tops were just moved ahead by 2 hours. This was at 10:00 Egypt time and her top was at 11:36...I am sorry but this would not even cut it for a national competition, let alone a world championship. I am trully sorry for the people that have worked their $%&@ off for the past year in order to go to the World Championships and now have to face such horrible organisation.

Yep - delayed 2 hours, I hear on the grapevine it's because they couldn't find the comp rope (not substantiated though).

I guess it's best to be delayed and sort their shit out than get out there and all hell breaks loose.

I'm on Friday so hopefully the bugs will be ironed out by then.

Don't ask about the official website - the guy who would be updating it is busy enough trying to pull the comp together.... a website is the last of his concerns, otherwise there may be nothing to report on the website.

Anyway, like I said a week ago - i'm here on holiday and if there's a comp in the middle, so be it.

Fom the looks of it there is one person per day from each National team... so a team will not know its score until the last day of CWT competition...
With this line up and the tops being moved 2 hours later the last athlere will probably be diving at around 16:00 in the afternoon...and its my friend William... darn it...

I think the only solution now for the athletes is to adopt Benny's attitude - its a holiday and a (badly run) competition is also happening somewhere in the middle of it. Anyone who can do that will probably be fine. Anyone who is taking this competition seriously and is expecting some sort of serious organisation will just be pissed off and probably be too messed up to perform...

My best wishes and hopes go to all the athletes down in Hurghada...
