Need help. Building a gun.

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I'm building a roller gun too, I've only cut the lams so far. What do you class as "stoppers" ?

The metal parts that the dyneema line stops on. Not sure how to explain

If you do post a pic here.

I was wondering about the rail, how I should do it? Should I carve the wood? Purchase one online, etc?

Also, about that 'stopper' I am clueless as what to do as of yet. Argh

Thanks Jegwan. Mind looking at the link and seeing if that glue is any good for a gun build?

I'm not sure. I don't know the product. I would chose an epoxy or polyurethane glue for laminating.
I found the safety data sheet for the product. Looking at the chemical info, I do not believe that this glue is either epoxy or polyurethane.

I disassembled these from an Alemanni rollerhead kit and intent to use these.

Should work no?

Ok awesome. Thanks. Got a lot of running around today then to find polyurethane glue in Malta

That glue is of no use to you, epoxy resin should be available from any boat store.

Damn. I just got teak prices in Malta and it is just stupidly too expensive. It costs €187 per cubic feet.

Looks like Iroko will do!

Erm. Is 310ml of the Evo-Stik polyurethane wood 'w' resin enough to glue a 90cm gun or will I need more? Coz I have to order online, malta dont supply it

It would be plenty, probably enough to build two or three guns depending on the number of laminates.
However polyurethane is not as easy to use as epoxy glue due to the speed it sets!
Epoxy is such a common & well use product... there must be some for sale in Malta?
For a first gun I would recommend Epoxy...

Ok sure. But isnt epoxy bad in humidity? Malta is extremely humid.

Also, what type of epoxy would I need if thats the case? Coz honestly these guys sell you anything they can. And I dont want to be buying something that isnt good enough as I have no idea what to look for

Well teak has been a favoured wood for 50 years or more but mainly because it has such a high oil content & would not expand underwater or rot away... however, teak is in fact, one of the more difficult wood to glue together because of its oil content!
Originally is was made popular when guns were made of one solid piece of timber but now we have epoxy & other high strength waterproof glues, so we glue up a number of strips of wood & then encase them with a water proof coating (epoxy)
what this means is we can use lots of different woods to make very strong & stable guns.
You can use virtually any hard wood although the really dense ones are not so suitable - some even sink!!
Oak, cherry, olive, mahogany, iroko, apple, ..... what is actually available where you live?
Epoxy is used all over the World, is does not like water before it is cured so you don't use it outside when it is raining but apart from that there never be a problem!
Have you looked at the Teak 80 gun link I posted or any of the other gun build threads?

What you think is what you get. Trust that you will be given expert recommendations - and ask for it! :)

Haha thats actually all very convincing foxfish & jegwan, thanks for the help.

This will be the first project I have with wood but ill be asking a few people that work wood to help out, so I dont get much wrong. All my parts im getting are from Meandros & Alemanni. Im not dealing with Neptonics anymore because I sent them money and havent been shipped the parts I ordered and I asked for a refund and havent gotten any reply from email.
