colt,

Quite a few on this posting have time during the week day and evening, myself I am limited to weekends due to work and family but I might be able to get some evening time in next week, Aesthetic seems to be the one doing most of the diving during the week so hit him up and Ill try to make it too.

good luck

joel

hey colt how old are you? h eyou evern been down in newport during the week of the 4th? its pritty nuts they shut down the peninsula and protty much everyone has a party all the way down. it gets alittle sketchy tho cuz there are alot of cops and they give out lot of d.i.p. and b.u.i so you just need to watch out as for goin out hunting im gonna be down there this monday and im not going to be working cuz im tired and i want some time to just kick it. but i wouldnt mind goin if you are free. let me know what you think.

thanks for the tips. i appreciate them very much and plan on keeping that in mind. ive actually gotten a few calico of legal size, so i suppose that i am doing alright so far. i havent even seen any of the fish you guys managed to catch, so im hoping to come across more species as i dive more.. im not sure if maybe its just the area that those species dont thrive as much, or maybe they are all fished out.. but i plan to have a few trips to PV in the near future.. and hopefully catalina, too.

its nice to hear though that those fish were caught in the depths that i am comfortable in. very reassuring. also, if i take that spare gun off your hands, i will definitely increase my odds of taking home a nice catch. the paralyzer tip is a blast, but i cant help but feel that one day im going to come across a fish that i cant take because of its limited capabilites, and thats never any fun. oh well though, i plan on using it for a good few months to perfect my technique and stealth so that when i do get a gun, i will be much more effective with it.

on a side note.. from sunday to tuesday ill be up north around the ventura/camarillo area camping with family on the beach. i definitely plan on bringing all my stuff, but i cant be sure what the area will be like.. im going to double check on where exactly it is, maybe if its not too far north of you guys we can meet up or something.. we will see.

im going to be down on 51st street in newport, on the peninsula near jack in the box for the 4th.. another girl we know is getting a beach house in the area too, so i will be running around everywhere.

definitely wont have any of my stuff on that day though, lol.. the only gear im gonna have is a bottle opener and some sunglasses.

aesthetics......like beam said, water depth fro those fish were around 10-15 feet some even deeper but nothing too deep. I think the trek over the urchin encrusted shelf and the fact that I was using a polespear to hunt mid-bottom level dwellers, made it really questionable to go into deeper water. In the depths, there were some definitely some bigger specimens, but as beam said again, they were very sketchy and unless I was aquaman, then the chance of getting them with my spear were looking pretty slim. I do however find that the best way to nail fish in deeper water is by spotting them, try to pposition yourself directly above them so you both have the same starting point, then descend as smoothly as possible as to not make a sound, try to have your spear cocked before your dive down, then hit 'em from above. This way, if he runs, you guys are at the same starting line, and you can move in whichever direction he decides to dart in. The only thing I can say is that if you are tired of seeing the same old fish, go explore somewhere else. That's the key I would say.......good luck this weekend and on the 4th.

Be safe...kanaks

yeah I was down there last year and it was freakin crazy me and two of my cousins were out untill 3 or so in the morning for three days straight.:friday not bad for a family reunion eh? any way, Im 16 but at 6'3" 195lbs I don't really look it.
Oh, and aesthetic im going to be staying right by you on 43rd street.

wow, youre a big kid! well yeah i might just run into you down there lol

im 19 and i will be wandering around newport that day prolly vist you guys since ill be on a bike. i have a couple of friends that will have houses that weekend as well so im just gonna be all over the place.

how was your dive today?

i didnt end up going when i got off work i had to help my dad out around the house and i didnt finish till dinner ate dinner and it started to get dark so i didnt get to go.

alright im about to leave for the beach and just wanted to let everyone know that im gonna go diving later today some time around 4 or 5 if anyone wants to go. most likely i will be goin out to laguna for diving and newps right now. if you have my number and you want to meet up there give me a ring and if i dont pick up leave a message and ill get back to you. so yea if you want to go diving today let me know. and im up for any location close to newport just let me know where, i like to visit new spots.

im gonna be up in the ventura area, like i said.. i think from tomorrow in the early afternoon, to around tuesday afternoon/evening. not sure how the diving is up there, but im hoping to have some fun. gonna camp with the family, so either way itll be nice.. but i wanna definitely try and find some fish! especially if we have the grill fired up and ready to go.. any catches will be cleaned and grilled instantaneously haha.

most likely wont be driving far or anything, so im pretty limited to what is around the campsite. im guessing sandy bottom, mediocre visibility, etc.. but hopefully i can come across some halibut or something. thats what im hoping for anyway, lol. wish me luck!

anyone up in the area, get my number from mateszh20 or xahx if youre interested in coming up and going out into the water for a few hours, like i said i dont know the area, but if you guys do, it should be fun.. or we can just explore and see what happens.

other then that, ill check back in the AM before i leave.. around 11am or so.. and then ill be gone til tuesday night or so. have a fun/safe weekend everybody and enjoy yourselves!

aesthetic,

missed a trip to palos verde with kanak and I. was a good time, Enjoy your 4th and your camping trip too. Good luck up north.

Whats up everybody. I'm pretty new to freediving/spearfishing, but would be stoked to be able to dive with and learn the ways from any of you.

I always fished as a youth, tank dove in my early twenties, and surf every chance I get, but I'm learning to love, and have much respect for freediving.

-Cheers

Thats a nice fish you got there Beam, what is that?
