not harassment...just trying to bring conciousness to what is many times considered top be a brutal hobby. I take it you never heard of amakua? you do what you want....it's on you, not me. sounds like you'll be eating ray for a long time.

ok so the roe is eaten raw like sushi? or do you cook it or what do you do exactly. and how exactly do you take them off the rocks. as i hear from other people kanakafari got a mean encounter with some and he was all swollen up from them. so do you have to use a knife to prop them off the rocks or what? and exactly how does the urchin look when it has alot of the roe in it?

In my limited expierience the roe is eaten raw, I'm not a huge fan of it so I usually spread it on crackers. I can imagine you could cure it to get a sort of caviar style dish out of it. When i harvested them I would dive down and just flip them off the rocks with my knife into a game bag and once on land you flip them over to expose the mouth, use your knife to crack the shell and you should see 2 pouches of uni on either side. Take the pouches and trash the rest, or use it for chum for the sheepshead(illegal). It takes a careful eye to discern the "good" uni from the "bad" uni, but you'll start to get the hang of it once you taste a couple of the "bad" ones. Gloves would be a very good idea for this process. You will have to find the seasons when they spawn and it's trial and error from there on out on which to harvest. I can tell you however that the red, and not the purple urchins are the one's to look for.

are red and purple urchins the same just differant age and maturity or what is the differance. any one know? . i heard circhins are good chum but have never tried it has anyone used them for chum and how well did it work?

Not sure while the color differentiation for them, I would assume sexual maturity and breeding reasons. Everything loves to eat urchins, Unigoop is a very popular mixture of Urchin parts used for chum by hook&line fisherman and can be found at unigoop.com (it's amazing, enough said).
Matesz H20, breaking up urchins for chumming in fish is illegal, but extremely productive. Once a friend broke a few open at Cat. Isle and was immediatly surrounded by bass, sheepshead and all the rest of the island fishes. Not very sporting way to hunt in my humble opinion, but if you need some meat on the table, gotta do what you gotta do.

inspiration point was really nice today. like i said, i didnt dive.. but the water was very clear. saw a couple of sandsharks while playing in the water.. one was about 2.5 feet and the other looked to be 4.5 feet. little bit of waves though, coulda made one rough diving day.
haha so i see you have taken a fancy to inspiration point. haha yea its where i started and is still a relativly close spot that is well worth the dive when the viz is good.
i have wanted to come up with a rig where you can anchor it down and have a float with your bag attached to it just so i dont have dead fish around my waist. any ideas. something easy to take out and something reliable. i was thinking a sort of inner tube, you know like the ones that trail behind boats. they have like a cloth skin that you put around it and i thought i could just put the fish in there so they can stay wet but wont get my bag ripped open by a hungry seal or something. any ideas?
try a small tire innertube, like the 13 in trailer size with a couple straps of nylon webbing and some stainless D-ring to clip your stringer to. you can use some cheep nylon cord to either tie it to to kelp stock or use a smaller dive weight to anchor it to the bottom..??
