North Wales, The Llyn & Anglesey 2014

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I may do a half day quick session on Anglesey on sunday morning up to high. As bro pointed out to me wakestock is on this weekend so the peninsula will be mayhem as will A55 sunday eveneing as everyone tries to leave .

did anyone go this weekend? This is possibly the most amazing idea man has come up with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Polaris-F...002?pt=UK_CPV_Aviation_SM&hash=item2591ab8132 would be great for nipping around the llyn and anglesey . You could fish half a dozen spots 20 miles away from each other in a day!

Ha ha ha! I literally bust out laughing when I clicked the link - it must have taken a very special type of genius to come up with that! I can't help but look at it and just think "death trap".

Yeah I reckon you would be lucky to survive a full season fishing the llyn in it ! absolutely nuts

THAT....IS....INCREDIBLE!!!

Knowing that this piece of ingenuity exists, I would feel limited even if I bought a boat. You could literally nip on over to the opposite coast if fishing is slow.

Looks like fun, but can you imagine how f'kin cold you'd get 400m over the Irish Sea?

Well I took the short 7.5hr round trip Sunday..... Messed up my times (slept in a little) and arrived at high so ended up diving on the falling tide. South llyn. Vis kept changing, went from 5m to 2m to 7m as a swell pushed through. 1 silver seen and that was about it!!!!! Few pollock about but too small. Counted 7 different jellyfish lol Left scratching my head as I was at my favourite bass mark where I have caught on all tides. O well

That's unfortunate, always worth the trip though .

Im staying in Aberdaron for a week from the 26th. Can anyone recommend any good snorkelling nearby? Only hunting with a camera, so dont necessarily need big fish - just lots of life. I can return the favour for anyone heading to my neck of the woods (Gower)

Went out last Saturday with a friend, South of the Llyn. Saw loads of schoolie bass during the morning high, saw a few bigger fish but could not get on them quick enough. Vis was around 4 - 5m

Missed the first shot and tuned my RA tri-cut spear into a blunt tip on a rock, ouch! Gave it the file treatment and dived again later in the day, vis dropped to 2m but managed a pollock and a bass and my mate a nice 4.3lb mullet.

Found a couple of spider crabs and a good size lobster. So all in not to bad but learned a lot. The weather is looking rather inviting tomorrow so will do the 5 and half hour round trip again :)

Have you heard anything about the 70 smooth hounds being washed up dead on the Gower?

Yep, saw them yesterday as went down Pwll Du to check it out. Not sure if they got stuck up on the rocks after a particularly high tide, or they were caught in nets and then thrown away. The paper is reporting the latter. Not a pretty sight either way.

Thanks Jeff, I would say most probable the latter unless there is any other suggestions....such a waste!! not to mention the quantity of what they also catch and retain!!!

There's a reef at either end of the beach that should be worth a look.

Thanks I'll have a look. Anywhere else along that coast?

As for Pwll du I was snorkelling off the point on Saturday and didn't see any on the rocks there - but didn't go into the beach. There's been a lot of emails flying around - I think the consensus is bycatch. Nothing else makes sense really.

Just thought id share a couple of mods ive made to my kit recently while not being able to get out fishing. The first is a shot line of sorts , comprising of a scuba reel and meter of chain and a dinky 0.7kg folding anchor. Im hoping this will be usefull when I find a reef or wreck to mark it quickly and accurately and then can think about how to anchor up in relation to it . Also im hoping in moderate current it will hold fast if I want to grab on and take a rest from finning when resting on the surface between dives . May even add a few flashers on the bottom few meters of line . Has anyone tried this in uk?

Another idea is when your alpha flag goes floppy and curls up , I threaded some thin galvanised wire on upper and lower parts and now its actually staying visible .

Some shoulder straps for my shore dive float , dynemma with pvc tube on outside.
