This thread hasn't had any pictures for a while... heres a quick snap from my last trip out with Daf.
A massive brown crab, blue lobster, black lobster, some mullet and most exciting of all, a cuttlefish - quite a rare one for North Wales!
I'd been fishing since 7am, met up with Daf in the afternoon - I'd fished a new area in the morning (quite well known to many on here), quite shallow and weedy - the viz was bad and although there were a lot of small bass about there was nothing takable - no mullet, which surprised me.
Daf and I took the boat out to deeper water in the afternoon and fished some of our favourite spots 1.5 km or so offshore - there were no fish but plenty of crustaceans about - I ditched the gun and headed off with the crab hook - we soon had an amazing blue lobster in the bag, a PB for both of us as it was a team effort.
The ground varied between gravel, sand and low rocks - the current was running like mad so it was hard work to keep in the right spot - the viz was bad and depth a little deeper than comfortable considering the current. On one drop, I can across a funny hovering rock, it took me a couple of seconds to realise it was a cuttle - as I've never seen one before - armed only with a crab hook, I didn't fancy my chances - fortunately when I surfaced, Daf was close by so we went down together to hunt the barren seabed for the cuttle which had legged it. We found it after 40 seconds or so and Daf gave it the steel - when we surfaced, I grabbed it and pointed it at Daf's face, hoping it would give him a face full of ink but no joy
We dived a few more spots and ended up in the shallows looking for mullet and bass - the viz was under a meter but I still managed a nice mullet (never blank
) - we finished the dive in some deeeeep water off the Rock, looking for Bream - really good fun tandem dives but a complete ghost town down there - although I did find a nice golf ball.
Maybe worth mentioning - in a total of around 9 hours in the water, I saw one sand eel. Just ONE.
