What's the best carp lake south of Portage?

that would be lake Wisconsin but good luck on the vis

Psssst...Don't blab too much...Not many people know about it!!! (and here I go putting it up here for the world to see!):t
just us and the few other 10,000 hits db takes every month

I can't beleive all the days federal workers get off and WE pay them for it...
dont forget they work almost every saturday.

All true Butter Lung...but MOST of us have worked our fair share of Saturdays too...We just did'nt get a day off during the week because of it!:naughty

It was back to work Monday morning...Atleast for me anyhow...Not to mention MANDATORY overtime. I did that (mandatory overtime AND 6 hour Saturdays) for well over two years! Not to mention my military service...When I basically worked for 4 years with hardly ANY time off. And out at sea...It was 6 hours on and 6 hours off continuously...NO days off. The longest I was at sea was 84 days. Millions of others have done the same. So the FEDS don't have MY shoulder to cry on when it comes to them working on Saturdays....Boo hoo for them. How many federal workers do you know that worked past 54 years old? Not many...No need to answer though...I don't wanna start a POLITICAL thread. Sorry If I did. I know it does'nt belong on here.

Ohhhh yeah...DIVING! Lets see October 13th...Yup...I THINK I'm in!

I could alway wear my wetsuit to stay warm & put a broadhead on my speargun! But that might be considered a crossbow! Now I MUST get a camo wetsuit!!!!!roflI could even wait in the pond for a deer to come by for a cool drink & pop up slowly like Rambo & harpoon 'em! Heehehe! Don't get me started!!! I'm crazy like that!

every time I worked a bunch of saturdays I wound up with a whole bunch of weekdays off

We used to go in off of Hasslingers and swim across to the wreck in full scuba- much easier in freediving gear. I've actually done laps around that lake on scuba before- took over 3 hours and needed a set of doubles to do it.

The penninsula was built as part of a CCC proect back in the 30's and they sunk the sand barge in the lake at the end of the project. The boat launch I used in the past was down the bay at the southwest end- lots of carp back there as I remember.

There's some good relief and nice weed beds from what I remember, but it's been so long since I've dove there that the whole place could be full of invasives by now?

Jon

maybe we should adopt a small lake and see if we can irradicate the carp next perhaps a select panfish harvest and see if we can increase the size of the panfish. Its my understanding that blue gills in just sheer numbers can impact carp fry more so than bass or northerns. I know that a group of scuba divers have helped with mifoil management the reparians welcome them with open arms.

On Golden Lake...The carp are Slooooowly disapearing...The average size of the panfish is getting bigger and bigger every year. And walleyes are flourishing here now. Not saying it's because of me...There are several other guys that spearfish the lake too. The other guys that spear it are specifically after carp usually. Its a very nice lake for diving, fishing, and swimming. And it's not that big either...Maybe 80 acres?

For awhile the zebra mussles got pretty bad...Now for some reason there does'nt seem to be as many anymore.

I might head out to Golden or Moose later on in the afternoon today if I can scrounge up a partner/safety.:t

I work second shift this weekend, but depending on the lake, I may be able to dive till 1-2 p.m.

Wood Lake up in Marquette Co. has the Biggest Bluegills I've ever seen anywhere, And I have not seen a Carp in there yet.

Well you guys decide where we are going on Sat. and let me know If I should bring the boat.

Land Shark - Where is "Parker"?

For the Record- I only own 1 diving Knife. It worked good to open that can.

Wood lake is really pretty and always a good choice. Lakes a bit further north should have better vis than the ones down here- with Geneva being the obvious exception.

I'd like to hear bgill's report on Moose if he gets out there today. It used to be the most popular lake around for scuba diving checkout dives- until it went condo.:rcard I haven't been there in a decade, at least, and wouldn't mind seeing how things have changed/improved.

Most anything would work.

Jon

No chance I'll get to moose lake today....Dan is all work (stress) & no play today! The joys of being a business owner!!!!

I WILL BE GOING WITH ON THE 13th Wherever it is we decide to go....I CANCELLED MY TRIP UP NORTH FOR THE SECOND TIME NOW!!!

I imagine that once the twins are born I'll have even less time to do recreational things!

You guys may think I'm on Deeperblue alot...Well I am...But I am also stuck in this office or on the road 10-18 hours a day at times. Right now I'm ON HOLD for the last 45 minutes!!!!

Some days I feel like just QUITTING! But we all know that'll never happen.

Anyone wanna buy a business for about 1.5 million? Call me!

Freediving - THE BEST form of relaxation I've ever found...When the boats are far away or non-existant anyhow!

On friday evening I will be on the way to NYC, 16 hours drive so this time I won't join You guys. I will see You in November, have fun

Well, the tiny perch are safe this trip.

Yes they are for now:martial
But Chris, You have to understand the deeper meaning of my "hunting style"

I am interrested in smaller fish because it is more challenging. Big fish is easy target, too easy:t

The Wx looks like it's supposed to be sunny up around Milwaukee on Sat. What time and what lake? Golden, Moose...the big pond we call Lake Michigan? Jon, where do your expert sences say we should go?

Chris- Did you find out if your gonna have your new suit by this weekend?

Wearing the one I've got. Re-tried the suit after talking to Mark at TechnoSport. The sleeves and legs are a little short imo, but I put my booties on and the overlap was fine. I will wear it this weekend and see how it feels, make sure the sleeve don't slide up and such.

I'd like to join you guys if you'll take a newly relocated spearo from Florida along. I'm close to lae geneva, but would love to see what it's like on lake Michigan. I've got a 2-seater dive yak and 5' flag stand on it.........

I'm dying to get in the water, but I don't know anyone in the area yet.

Bgill, have you had a chance to check out the vis in any of the lakes by your house? That might be a more central area for all of us to meet.

Jon

Wreckrunner- I'm thinking we might meet at Bgill's house- you can PM him for directions. Lake Michigan - would be the clearest, coldest and harder to find fish. In the actual lake you would see Lake Trout and Salmon, inside the breakwall is where we would find some carp, shad, perch, Bass and an occasional Northern Pike.
