OMER Zero 3 Mask

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
As soon as I round up my sporasub mystic (currently on loan) I will do a group shot of freediving masks I like.
 
Okay, here it is: Gratuitous Mask Porn:



Left Column:
Cressi Matrix (with script lenses - these also reduce volume and increase FOV by bring the lens closer to the eyes - this mask blow the doors off all of them for FOV because of the scrip lenses) Killer mask if you don't go much deeper than 20m.

Omer Alien Lower vol than the Matrix - but small nose pocket. Mine has script lenses too - so excellent FOV. Without the Prescription Lenses it probably has the poorest FOV of the lot.

Aquasphere Sphera - What can I say? My fav. The polycarbonate lenses correct my vision underwater (on SOME Spheras - got to know what to look for). Best peripheral and upward vision of the lot (sucks downward) low volume and probably the most compressible. Great for pure free diving - not good for Spearos because of the downward vision - which makes close work (wrangling fish) difficult. Also fragile.

Next Row:
All three of these masks rule - Aqualung Micromask, Sporasub Mystic, Omer Zero3 - pick the one that fits you best and be happy. Low vol, great Viz. Really does come down to which one fits you best. If I had to say something I'd say the Mystic may have the most flexible fit. They all work fine for me.

Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Of the whole lot I have only tried the Aquasphere Sphera (also known as the Aqualung Sphera) and the Omer Zero 3. So it looks like I should try and throw some money on the Sporasub Mystic next time.

By the way I lost my Aqualung Sphera in open sea some time ago and need to get a new one. And of course I made a video about my loss :waterwork

Last weekend I was resting on the surface when I heard insane cackling maybe 10 feet away. Some vast woman who had been miraculously inserted into a kayak was colliding with my float, which was less than a foot from my head.
Shortly after that what we here in the states call a 'douchebag' rocketed out from shore, full throttle, and passed within 50 feet of my float on his Jet ski (a device so antithetical to all that is good and true that nature herself has designed a remedy).

At this point I turned around and left. I like your diving laws. Here it is illegal to come within 200 feet of the flag, but I don't think the fine approaches $1200.

Your videos are inspiring - I think I may start trying to do some of my own; without the vaseline however.

I want to buy a mask but have no store anywhere near me so I'll have to order online. Is it too risky to buy this mask without trying it on first?

Testing the Zero3 mask, and the having tested the Micro mask, I can say that due to the extreme low volume the compression margins are extremely small, narrowing down the range of faces it will fit drasticly. Another downside of the extremely low volume masks is that they often need precise placement on the face to seal well. A well known problem with with such mask is the eyebrows, nosebridge touching and pressuring on those areas. It may feel like a martial artist hits your facial pressure points, not comfortable.

In short try before you buy.
 
You can see my thoughts on the matter in the posts above. It is always a risk buying online - especially if the shipping is expensive and you have to ship back. Still - the prices in some of the european online shops are better than US prices so maybe not such a risk. If you must buy this way I would suggest the Mystic - which seems to me to have the most generous fit of the three and is less expensive than the Zero3.
 
Okay. I just went back and tried on the Micromask and Mystic. The Micromask actually has a little more eyebrow room in it (a tad more volume maybe?) but if I compress it all the way down it will press on my eyebrows uncomfortably. The Mystic has less room, but (for me!) is not uncomfortable when compressed. The Micro works for me and is my second favorite to the Sphera - but I think the Mystic has softer silicone and a more versatile fit.

If you are new to low volume masks keep in mind what Kars has said - they are not tolerant of facial expressions and can be tricky to fit.

The Mares mask that crazy Danish guy is on about it pretty comfy too - probably a little more volume than some, but not bad.
