PETA F&@#ers

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Rob.
It sounds to me that maybe the fishery is not being managed properly in your area. If commercial fishermen are fishing protected areas and getting away with it they will not stop. Because if one does it the others will follow too, to get their share. It is really hard to blame them. I see it here occasionally where a species is getting hit hard and the pros will actually ask the fisheries to make restictions. the reasoning being, that even if they tried to self regulate there would always be some fishers cleaning up and taking the others share.
Maybe not explaining myself properly here but the point is there is a great resposibility on the Government to Manage natural resources for us, We pay them to do it (taxes).
Weren't we bitching about PETA anyway !!!!!

True . (Although it may be good for us to take a little heat ourselves from time to time to keep us on our toes.:ko)

about peta it is ridicilous to play it the way they played it using children. But that is what you see all over the world with extremist groups.. they dont respect an other point of view.

I have read the threads verry interesting. I think sustainability is the key here. Dont go after rare fish even if they are big. I am sorry to have clouded this thread.

Just read this leaflet - Can somebody please tell me which fish use tools and how the manage to eavesdrop? This is such a poor piece of propaganda, far too blatant!

One of the things I hate the most about PETA is their anti-fur campaign.

I am vehemently pro-fur. It is humanely produced, sustainable, and, best of all, creates an economic incentive to protect animals and their habitats.

The people at PETA are responsible for ruining the planet, and should be skinned alive!

If you try Googling for PETA images, you'd think it was a soft porn company - lots of images of naked models in cages and the like.:hmm maybe I should become vegetarian....Then again, The Field magazine has been featuring a nude charity calendar each month for quite some time.

I think all of such environmental watchdogs should focus on fighting the industry and authorities that allow this industry to overfish. My guess is that spearos account for maybe 0.001 percent of all fish caught in the saltwater. As long as they don't interfere with my spearfishing - I would ignore them, but if they encroach on spearfishing, then I would organize to resist this encroachment. I also would not feel any guilt at all spearing any fish legal to spearfish as long as I am confident I will eat it. We are just another type of predators, sharks do not "pay the ocean to make new fish", why should we?

Yes, I was shocked watching something like Trawlermen on TV the other day and they showed the latest, biggest boat to enter the "fleet":head. I get a strong impression that they are still heading in the wrong direction very quickly. It's not sustainable. They have to cut back on all this commercial fishing -- and it has to include other countries too, you can't expect our fishermen to give up or sit in shore while Spanish/etc. trawlers clean-up what they left behind.

Not sure what the answer is. A very small number of large, efficient, well equipped factory ships or a larger (but limited) number of smaller boats. I think the latter would be better for society and fishing communities but perhaps the larger is safer & cheaper.

You're right. Instead of focusing their efforts on industry, which causes the vast majority of depletion, they focus on Joe Spearo who only takes what he intends to eat. It does seem strange that they would do this, but my observations lead me to suspect that their actions are based on a people-hating attitude rather than a real concern for the resource. They do not believe that people have the same right to hunt as a shark.

It's easier to attack Joe Spearo, regardless of his conservationist attitude, because spearfishing is one-on-one and it's easy to put a negative spin on it.

Overall I think PETA and their fellows are bizarre. To read their literature, it sounds like they believe people should exist within a vacuum and not consume any resources. They would also have you believe that people cannot have a positive impact on the resource, which is also untrue.

You have to understand that PETA is a vegetarian cult. They will use any means, no matter how bizarre, to attract members and indoctrinate them into this fallacious life-style. Conservation has nothing to do with it. You're running into an clandestine religion, here.

MR. x i saw your post at the beginning of the thread about the Bow fishing and i wanted to tell you some stuff i know
One, the fish they were shooting are carp and carp are one of the most invasive fish in america
two, my brother just told me that PETA is against feral pig control. those pigs are responsible for more endangered/extinct species than anything else in Hawaii

Old Sarge, I agree but I think they are a vegan cult (like the English & Welsh Green Party). I think vegans look down on vegetarians as being not quite real vegetarians. (Vegans don't eat dairy, fish, eggs or meat). Yes, I notice since returning to the UK that all of our ponds, lakes and canals have been stocked with carp -- it certainly wasn't like that when I was a child. But they are also starting to farm carp for food again here (the monks used to do it hundreds of years ago) -- greener than most farmed fish, they don't need processed food. [Actually there is a sustainable trout farm in Wiltshire where they don't feed the fish other than by allowing water to flow in from the adjacent watercress bed - which are full of freshwater shrimp, lavae, etc. Result: no food cost or impact, fasher growing, faster moving, healthier fish, no colouring, no muddiness. Featured on River Cottage Gone Fishing this week].

We have wild boar loose in Britain again, I think they escaped from a wildlife park. As you say, quite destructive. I wondered if the foxhunters might aspire to hunting them? Supposed to taste great. I thought wild pig was a traditional Hawaiian feast, cooked in a pit?

I totally agree with Sarge: it's a CULT.
More: it's a tribe thing. You know those tribal rituals: you have to join them in the dance around the totem. If you don't dance around the totem, or even if you do join the dance but, unintentionally, you break any of their taboos, they'll take your scalp bloody soon before you could say ooops!

What saddens me is that this kind of fanatic tribal cult believers, seem to have now got hold of the exclusive copyright to speak and stand for wildlife and environment (?). It was not so in the good old days.
Here in Italy, in the 90's, the President of the most influential environment association (Lega Ambiente, League for the Environment) was an avid recreational spearfisher (!).
In Tuscany, in the same years (early 90's) the regional federation of the Green party appointed a famous competitive spearo (!!!) as Chief alderman for marine policies.

Of course they have now been kicked off, forget about appointing spearos for top charges as they used to be: they wouldn't even be permitted to speak at any enviro's meeting...The tribe has banned them now, they're taboo.

I had a beautifully-written reply, then I tried to post and was told that I didn't have permission :vangry Stupid IE7. I wish I could go back to 6.

At any rate, you guys have hit the nail on the head with these last few posts. You're right: enviros are considered the authority on all matters environmental, even though all they have to go on is vague language and emotional appeals. They use these very effectively, so that they will never be truly satisfied and will screech and demand interminably. Unfortunately they fight their battles in court, where the public has no voice, or in vaguely-written legislation that most people don't understand, but it sounds good so they vote for it. The result is idiotic policy like the one currently protecting mountain lions in California.

Mr. X- The Hawaiians brought a domesticated pig on there canoes but the wild boar are not the same variety. Judging from the wild pig i have tried i have found i don't like it at all. The feast is called a luau and the pit is an imu pit when you cook something in an imu it is kalua style so you call the pig kalua pig and its way more ono ( delicious also coincidentally the Hawaiian word for wahoo) than the wild boar i have tried
