Rocket monofin?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Thank you :) I'm into buying a glide or the rocketfin and now you gave me new ideas with the new tropol and lunocet etc but how far away are they :p

Don't forget the colour Björn, pink will attract the wrong kind for you I think ;)

But indeed that's the toughest part of ordering a fin, the insecurities in combination with the high price.

Happily I got a fin that fits, so I can wait. Currently I fancy the upcoming Tropol a lot.

Björn, could you please check the actual inner measurements of your Rocket fin? Maybe the manufacturer did made a mistake in choosing the size? Anyway it would be good to know what the actual size is compared to the ordered.

dont know Kars, the pink is growing on me, the ladies think i'm sensitive and no guy will steal the fin when i'm not looking ;)

good point about measuring the pockets, i'm away from it for the week so will measure it when i get home again on monday. will be interesting to find out the 2 measurements differ.

as for the lunocet and the Tropol, i'm pretty sure the tropol wont be ready before christmas, lunocet is available now and with Ted's new design features i think it will make for a very interesting fin.

was gonna measure BennyD's fin which is a slightly bigger pocketsm (couple of mm maybe) but just realised... how do you measure the pocket size?

do you take into account the strap and its stretch or do you just measure the footbed size from the toe of the pocket to where it finishes just before the heel?

How to manufactures measure up a footpocket?

DD

The M5f has been delayed. I will say though - Tropol has defeated variable quality control and unpredictable size demons.

Their footpocket material seems indestructible and has less friction on the feet. In the review thread I mentioned having a raw blister that was created by one of my other fins heal while I was using the Tropol every day.

Theres a full-on review of the M4 coming up on DB fairly soon.

I hope Panev Victor can give a better answer.

For now try the distance from the toe to the where your top of your foot get's exposed. So the length of arch of the footpocket. - Not the sole, which would be difficult with the different models having heels or not having heels.

Knowing the width would also be nice.

Maybe you know the sizes and what you've ordered of other fins and can put them in the comparison chart too?

Here's a run down of what I've measured:

Footlength: 28,5 CM - size: 45

Footpocket Water Way Classic (320mm pocket):

Footpocket Hyperfins arch:

Footpocket Hyperfins top:

Footpocket Hyperfins side:

When I measured the space between toe and heel-strap I got 26 CM on both the WW Classic fin and the Hyperfins. (hyperfins)

To buy or not to buy is the question now :S
Should i try one or just go for a glide?
The rocketfin guys sound very good at what they do, but i haven't seen a rocketfin in real life so it's more of a gamble.

How do you get the fin in the angel best suited for you?
Do you send pictures, meassure?

Hi all,

I haven't done a great deal of testing yet but I can give you some insight on dynamic and constant weight.

I ordered a medium stiffness, size 44, 30 degree angle freediving fin.

First off, build quality is superb. I'm used to the standard russian-style "made by uni student in the back shed" type fin which is excellent performance-wise but is quite ordinary to look at. My last Hyperfin was glued and posted before the glue had dried so some of the wing had separated by the time it had arrived. The Kershkov before this looked reasonable but the Rocketfin looks quite slick.

The wings are much thinner than the other hyperfins i've seen - the rubber is denser as it's not bouyant rubber so it looks a bit "sharper" if that makes sense. The shape is a little different to the Hyperfin, the blade is wider at the base (the foot end).

Bouyancy - the fin is slightly positive, enough so the back heel straps just sit out of the water so almost neutral. Based on some dynamic laps i'm not sure if I like this, my previous two fins were positive which encourages a better glide. Constant weight felt a bit different too, I probably just need to get used to it, particularly the last 15m of ascent where I had to kick a little more to become positive again.

Footpockets - tight, stiff, but not too bad. My footsize is approx EUR 43-44 and I asked for a 44. Foot goes in easily enough compared to other fins and i've been able to keep it on for about 20min in the pool and about 40min in the lake (i've always had about twice as much tolerance in ocean/lake diving than the pool). One of my feet is slightly larger than the other (can't recall which right now), in the pool when I kick I actually feel the pressure on my right foot at the base of my toes which makes me think my right foot is larger. This pressure is quite uncomfortable and the right foot seems to be bearing too much of the downforce of my kick in dynamic. In CWT, I don't notice it.

I think you have to be fairly true to your shoe size when ordering - if you order too big (eg if you're a 43 shoe and you order 46 fin) then yes, it will be more roomy but I suspect the heel strap will be a little loose and your foot will move around in the pocket. Yes, it'll hurt a bit but as you wear it more this will get better. Probably a size bigger than your shoe size would work best. Hyperfin pockets typically curve down to make room for the toes but interestingly Rocketfins do not. Does not seem to impact the overall comfort (relative comfort anyway) much.

Stiffness -
Dynamic: feels too stiff. I've got photos of me kicking a med/soft Hyperfin and putting the blade at a 90deg angle, no such issue here. I need to experiment with kicking style a little as i'm not feeling the love just yet, though this is not uncommon for me with a new fin.

Constant Weight: Oh baby.. Rocketfin is an apt name. This thing flies down to depth and more importantly, back up again. The issues with stiffness I had in the pool do not seem to be there in the depth. I took the fin below 50m on Monday in 1:40 with no noticeable leg fatigue - granted I have been doing a bit of leg work in the gym lately but I could imagine a fit diver with a medium blade wouldn't have much issue finning back from much deeper. A med/soft might be a good option though if you're thinking 3 digit depths though, so to comment on Eric Fattah's post I think that's a wise choice of fin stiffness for the dives you are doing.

Service - can't fault the guys. Prompt responses, plenty of options and discussion and good turnaround time.

Overall comment - a superb looking fin that i'm sure i'll adapt to over time. Seems to be particularly good for Constant Weight, i'll let you know how I get on with dynamic.

Cheers,
Ben

I just ordered one, 25 degrees, 800-1500m blade.

Hi there eric, 800-1500m blade is more of an deep diving stiffness right?

I'm getting confused on the stiffnes issue :p Some say a number like 1 or 2, some say soft, medium and some say in meters. The rocketfin guy I talked to recommended an stiffness 1 or 2 ("2 is more stronger"). So 800-1500m is an 2 and a medium?

Thanks alot benny hope to hear some good word from the pool too, it sounded great when you liked it so much on the depth :) And you have stiffnes medium and that is 2 maybe?

Is it by bank transfer you pay the guys?

hallo to everybody !
My name is Alexandr Lichenko and i`m make the "Starfins" from 1996year . by My friends freedivers, said to me that in this forum a discussion goes our Starfins and I glad will be to help somebody to get more pleasure from swimming in our fins and hope soon there will be new records in freediving, rather than just in finswimming ! is quick you can find me (or catch in on-line) in facebook or do correspondence to my e-mail : immersion@ua.fm !
here is few photos of our finsss...;)
with the best wishes
Alex

p.s.we did already so many fins for freedivers and know problems with the sizes of foot and hardness of glass ! Becouse it`s a not same fins like for a finswimmers !:)

hmmmm copy of rocketfin maybe??????hahahahahahah

ok everybody with athe issues i have had, i am glad to say that all has been remedied and the guys at Rocketfin are WITHOUT DOUBT the BEST fin company i have dealt with, they spent a ridiculous amount of time with me to fix my issues and on top of that they were willing to completly start from scratch for me. but unfortunatly i leave in just a week so did not have time. but they did go through step by step what i needed to do to fix my problem and i am happy to say that the fin now fits well!!!!!!!!

thankyou so much Viktor.

ANYBODY that wants a brilliantly built fin need look no further than the Rocketfin.

on a side note i had a professional industrial rubber liner (guy who works with rubber all day lining seperators and pipeworks in mines) say that he has never seen such quality work anywhere in all of his years of experience (30 years) and quite simply said that Rocketfins are using the BEST quality rubber available at any level 9of the market with the strongest glues (TIP TOP CS) which is the strongest rated glue in the injdustrial market. so for a man like that to say that about somebody he has never met before is a huge compliment..... on a side note his opinion of my Triton fin left something to be desired.

DD

DD - can you provide more detail on the glue - I'd like to see if I can find some.

TIP TOP CS it is called, made in Germany. used in the tyre repair indsutry AND the commercial rubber industry.

if you look for Tip top rubber glue on google it comes up.they are a huge manufacturer. it comes in a semi transparent and a black, we fixed my fin with black (all we could get a hold of but you cant really see it anyway)

it is a contact adhesive but with some nasty stuff in it that is apparently abnd in alot of countries but it works REALLY well.

not cheap you nuy it in small cans like a paint sample tin size but can be hand in larger amounts as well.

hope that helps a bit

DD

How did you have your fin fixed Björn? Some photo's and instructions are welcome!

hahahaha didnt take any photos,

using an electric hot air gun working of the strap edges and neoprene joins, brakes down the glue.

then using a butter knife or similar flat (not sharp objuect) the ruber is seperated from each other with out any damage. then by extending th straps or other areas of the fin you can then adjust the sizing, then clean all areas that are to be gluede and ensure that all old glue residue is removed. after that use Tip Top CScontact adhesive to glue it back together again. i had a prefessional liner help me out along with some instructions from Viktor.

hope that helps a bit

Hello DD ;-)

1. In order that so to talk it is needed in the beginning to see in living, hold for some time in hands and it is better to make attempt, but not it is simple to talk - take only it ! it is Impossible to talk that Renault worse what BMW
only because it cheaper or other - it is necessary to try !

2. Victor 2-3 years worked on me and 3 years for my friends Yakovlev`s., further he led itself not correctly and began to work on itself ! Learning to do fins for us - he now does not have a conscience to behave with (correct) restraint and not writing badly about those - who hired him in the future ! And far not he and not I with my friends developed these hyperfins - therefore not he and not we do not have not what moral right to talk about that someone from us does imitations !
With best regards...

Alex

DivingDane, all this sounds more than just a good use case, commercial flyer maybe? :) I don't question the quality, it's enough to say that Stefano Figini uses one...it's all there needs to be said.

In my opinion, all differences in functional hyperfins with identical angle for freediving are marginal.
Cost-benefit analysis doesn't rule out perfect, cheaper "replicas" unless you're top contender who will give everything for that extra meter.
Buying top monofin makes sense only when it becomes the greatest undealt limiting factor in freediving performance.(usually fitness being the greatest gaining ground)

agreed MP4/4 the fin does NOT make the diver and i know for a fact that the fin will not make all the difference. from the previous fins i have used or owned i am most impressed with the build quality. its finish is much better. and i feel along with that of the rubber liner that this fin will last substantially longer than others when looked after due to the higher grade of materials and workmanship. performance i can not accuratly guage yet as i havent had a chance to use it enough yet. as we have seen WW Glides, Hyperfin and others have been VERY good in our sport no question i just think this fin has a place as well.

Not sire what your first point was in ragard to Alex, i never commented on your fins quality, because exactly as you say i have not seen or used your fin so i can not comment. i simply stated that i believed that this design was an imitation of the Rocketfin, however if i am incorrect then i apologies. who was the original designer of this exact design of fin? (with the extra layer of rubber oveer the footpocket, i understand that Andronov was credited with the invention of the "Hyperfin" but i hade never seen a fin with the Rocketfin or Starfin design before, who begin this design?

i just struggle when someone comes on to a forum and do nothing other than advertise there product openly on threads not relting to their product. its not particularly professional nor needed on this forum. if your product is good then it will speak for itself. jumping onto for sale threads and this thread and not addressing what the thread is about and merely advertising product isnt the best way to make an impression.

my opinion only
