Sources for Mamba kit?

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
What is the purpose of the slide ring on your shaft? Its going to cause lots of drag and that slide ring will cause a huge hole when the spear completely passes the fish. Adding a screw-on speartip will change the balance of your spear making it a bit front heavy. I dont think this is an issue with a smaller gun since the shots will be close.

Thats the beauty of tovarich kit. A simple reliable system that shoots a spear super fast with very minimal drag. I think tovarich kit should be only used on long gun where a far shot is often taken. 4m and up.

GreekDiver,

I'm not sure what you mean by O'ring making a hole, there isn't an O'ring on the shaft. I used the slide ring because there are accuracy problems with line attachment at the front of shafts, see: http://aquatech1.narod.ru/index1.html

The small slide ring will create a small amount of drag at the back of the shaft but it is very low profile. The slide ring will also ensure drag from the shooting line pulls from the back of the shaft not the front. My assumption is that this will overcome the accuracy issues while being as hydrodynamic as possible.

I was going to use crimps on the line either side of the slide ring to keep it hydrodynamic but I didn't have the right size and the knots are almost as small as the slide ring. The tips do have some shoulders on the joining piece, I will probably taper those off with the dremel.

Cheers,
TJ

Trials will have to wait a couple of weeks. I'm off this afternoon to Phuket for a much needed holiday :)

Glad to see I'm not the only one using a short modded pneumatic :). Here is a pic of my two modified guns. The lower is sporasub stealth 70 and the upper one mares vico jet 110. Stealth uses 4 wraps and pumped to 550 strokes packs quit a punch. the system used in both is very similar to tovarich, but custom made in our ˝shop˝. it features a teflon made shock adsorber and a teflon made extended guide for better accuracy (white tip of the muzzle on stealth 70). compared to factory setup, the shot is a lot quieter (probably due to custom rubber preadsorber), recoil minimal and the shaft speed... lets just say the shaft is invisible. not much improvement has been made on the issue of buoyancy.

testing of the vico jet is still to come, but just like before the modification, it still sinks like a rock.

Thx for sharing petar...that vico jet is like the old pneu. use to be I still don't know why they changed the design it seems more hydro dynamic than the fat tube guns

ahh phuket...awesome but isn't it the rainy season over there now?

Well, in Phuket now and we haven't had any rain so far. But hey I live in the tropics, monsoon rains aren't anything new (and it's much cheaper to come this time of year) :t

Cheers,
TJ

How was your trip mate?
I cant wait to go back there again, had a blast last time.

Trip was fantastic, comming home wasn't too good. Got Dengue fever the day I got home, never been so sick. All good now, winds will be dieing down soon so I can get out diving and fishing. The mackerel are running now (early) but they're huge. My neighbour got 3 all over 33kg the other day before both his trolling lines got smashed off. We are talking 12/0 hook, 200kg cable, rope and springer tied to the boat so must be some huge fish there. Waste of time to spear these bad boys. I've caught many a 30kg mac out at this spot and you have about 5 seconds to get in the boat before the sharks clean it up. Fun though!

Cheers,
TJ

Sounds like fun mate :)

It was same for me fishing at Ningaloo Reef, the sharks love Amberjack, and if you aint quick enough say bye bye to it and some of your gear LOL

Phuket you have to fill us in with a report and pix...lots of pix!

Well Tone, this probably isn't the forum for it but I suppose a quick run down won't hurt. Phuket is a good inexpensive place to holiday and the food!!!!!!!!!!! Our appartment in a 4 star resort costs $640AU for 9 nights including breakfast for 3. We got a really good guide a couple of days, Mr. Sam and he showed us around Phuket one day for about $50AU and the second day for $180AU took us to a fishing village built on stilts in Pang Na Bay (about 1.5hrs drive) then we boarded a long tail boat and went to a floating fishing village, had a look around, then onto James Bond Island (supposedly they filmed one of the movies there). When we got back to the fishing village our skipper's wife had a beautiful lunch waiting (see pic) She actually brought out crayfish after I snapped a photo. On the way back we stopped at a huge limestone cave with 1000s of monkeys around the entrance and a budist temple inside (straight out of jungle book). Stopped at lots of roadside stalls and bought strange and beautiful fruit and some more familiar. We did heaps more but can't fit all in here. I'm always the one with the camera so it's my girls in all the photos.

Thx for sharing One, I was in Phuket a few years past (travelled most of Thailand for 45days) so the pix bring back some fond memories (we took the same tour in Phuket)...the people are great and the culture is amazing...and the food another dimension! I hope to revisit again soon and perhaps shoot some fish....thx again for sharing , you look to have a great family...Cheers!

Thx for posting some pics mate, I was there last year and its nice to see and hear of the things i did there.
Cant wait to go back there oneday :)

Not sure about shooting fish in Thailand. They had live baramundi and estuary cod in many resturants and they were all about the size of the one on the table in the pic above (pretty small). Below are a couple pics of me with the same species in Australia (much bigger).
