I haven't been to Budleigh since Sunday, which was like pea soup. A lone spearo out wading thru the murk...
Bday and off work today but not too hopeful. We be out and about in the kayak tho later between Ladram and SB and will post back report. Cheers all

This was taken at Meadfoot last night. Apparently somebody fell from the cliff, not 100% sure though. Hope it wasn't anyone on here.

Hi Reg, nah mate I didn't bother. Had been in a couple of evenings before, vis was pretty poor, lots of bloom with vis around 2m and the conditions looked very similar with more chop on the surface.

Hi Scottmcblue,
Bumped into you a couple if weeks ago at Meadfoot after you had dived shag rock with your buddy. Forgot your user ID sorry. Just thought I'd say hi and good to see you posting on the forum.
Cheers.

As expected still pea soup between budleigh and sb, nice day out on the kayak none the less. Good luck all for the weekend if you are venturing out

Hi scottmcblue. I was on the incident yesterday. A guy fishing with his son dropped his wallet and in an attempt to recover it fell from the rocks. After a short time he was unconscious in the water. He was recovered by the council patrol boat who started CPR then that was taken over by the coastguard team. He was airlifted by the helo R106 and flown to Derriford (nearest trauma unit) unfortunately he was deceased on arrival despite the efforts of all involved. We were back this afternoon to the same spot for a 10yr old stuck on the cliffs. Summer is here it would appear.
Coastie.

Hi Dai ASBO, yes I remember, have you managed to get in the water lately? Vis has been terrible locally, im thinking day trip out somewhere.

Coastie, thanks for the update. What a tragic accident, horrible thing for the son to witness.

Been in a couple of times since but with no joy and worsening vis!! I'm doing the AIDA 1 and 2 with Freedive UK next weekend, I won't be getting in until then and will come back a better freediver. Will be looking to get back on it when I've done the course and bloom has gone.

Tragic accident indeed. Reminder to us of just how quickly and easily things can go wrong on the coast.

So sad!

Hi all...

Found out that illegal netters were out on Thursday night at bigbury hauling in lots of fish, netted the river mouth and right across the bay... The locals went out after them and the police arrived, unfortunately they got away but bad news for the fish too...

They are working in pairs, two cars, and all blacked out working late at night with a small boat. They seem to have a nearby escape beach planned incase they get busted!

Please be vigilant everyone. Would be good if we can catch them at it and get them fined... I understand it is a 25k fine!

Scotty & the boys any update on viz for bigbury or hope cove?
Thinking of going after work Monday night, looking to be in the water about midnight. Freshening SE turning SW on Tuesday with rain forcast so probably only chance to get in this week.

Looked across Torbay from Labrador bay car park last night , Babbacombe to hopes nose were very brown up to about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile out to sea, with a strong demarcation zone , of brown to blue (ish ) water , so got up early and went to a spot in North Cornwall , vis was dreadful there too !!!! so had a long paddle in kayak instead ...Terry ......

No idea scrumpy mate. Im in paris waiting for a connecting flight to south africa so wnt be in the water for 10 days at least. Hopefully the bloom will be gone on my return. I won a speargun from the picasso guys on facebook and im itching to use the beast

Yeah terry been down teignmouth/dawlish every day very distinctive mark as you say. Popped down to hope nose last thurs possible a little viz but couldn't face climb up, down with gear and back up. I'll try there very early when clear as think this will be good hunting ground.
Anyway you labrador bay, me teignmouth, Scott Paris onto s Africa!! Say no more!!

Think I'll head in tomorrow if I do I'll report back

Scott have a safe trip buddy

Brown brown brown! Heavy bloom at thirlstone and bigbury!

The viz has cleared up lots here in Plymouth. The bloom is still hanging around in patches, but where its cleared, the viz is 4m or more. Close inshore is still holding patchy areas of green/brown bloom, but it is much clearer further out.

Thanks Ali b & mr Womble won't bother thanks for the update. Midnight, bloom, man flu = shit dive.
Weather getting slightly unsettled with SW winds but the bay is just a line of brown out onto the horizon. Glass half full a few days might clear viz/bloom enough to dive torbay somewhere.
Thanks again boys
Lee
