thank god someones speared some fish!!
well done mate, have some reps!! ;)

I heard on BBC radio devon today that the environment agency has had numerous calls recently reporting pollution incidents and upon investigation they all turned out to be algal bloom !! the worst for many years !!

On leaving Torbay late afternoon the water looked bloody awful, not surprised its prompted a few calls to the EA. When will this end??!!
Off to Newquay this weekend to do course with Freedive UK, hoping for better Cornish conditions.

..Dai ,I was up near Polzeath last Sunday and it was dreadful !!! in very shallow water at one rocky inlet it was rusty orange , like builders tea !!! Hope you have a good time on the course , let us know how you get on , I will expect you will be out diving all us soon !!! Terry......

Thanks for the good news Terry:waterwork Looks like I've picked the right time to do it then!!!!:duh
Will post a report up when I'm back - at least I won't be able to be distracted by being able to see anything at all! :D
Cheers,

Dai , I am sure the guys will know where to find clear water , do they shore dive or from a boat ? Not many places have deep (20 m + ) water close to shore.

From kayaks I think. The info I've had suggests they have a variety of places dependent on conditions so am pretty confident its going to be a great experience. And first time without a speargun in my hand!!

Vis looks great in falmouth bay from the shore (!), anyone been in recently? Heading out to give it a bash in a few hours.

Great catch by lee on Dorset / Cornwall thread but closer to home any viz thurlestone / bigbury way. The bay brown brown brown.

Wow...what a great result!

I'm a newbie to all of this, having just bought a gun/suit etc. this spring. My first few sessions have been rather disappointing (in terms of fish spotted) to say the least, as the bloom has reduced visibility to about 1 metre each time I've been in. However, it's been great to just get in the water, and hearing about results like Lee's are enough to keep me "moist" for a while yet! I just hope that the clear water that you guys had soon spread to South Devon too!

has any one been in during the past 24 hours, and if so what was the vis like?

I am thinking of session in the South Hams tonight....

Thought you guys might like this... put it together a while back but never released it...

Yes very nice work , I then looked at your link and liked it all just as much , rather professional indeed ! especially considering it is mostly using GO PRO cameras !!! this is as good as the BBC was turning out not so long ago with huge cameras ( and budgets ) ... well done ... post as many as you like !!! Terry....

Learnt lots on course with Freedive UK on weekend just gone. Lots to implement and practice practice practice. Will definitely improve my down time and general enjoyment of the whole diving experience. Have already been back in touch to book doing the 3* course next year!!
Would recommend the training course, helps promote safety and proper improvement of technique.

I dived in Bigbury Bay last night, about 2 miles offshore. The bloom is clearing and settling down. We had 4m of decent viz. We saw our first Basking Shark of the season, and a Sunfish.
I'm off out diving from my kayak this afternoon. Busting out the monofin to check out some deeper spots.
