Hi All,
Fished over low and start of the turning tide. Got out at dark with two mullet. Saw many mullet but like the bass even they were ever so skittish. Nothing was coming in easy. All spectors in the gloom. Saw Rubber Duck in spearing in shorts and a T shirt! Brave!!!!!!!
Hopefully spend some more Brownie points over the weekend!!!

Good to see you Tribs. Yeah they were definetly a bit skittish this afternoon but nice to see some more bass about albeit smallish ones. Only had £1 on the parking meter so figured the shorts were a good bet....lucky I went for those and not the Speedos as it didnt seem as warm as I remembered it the other week... Just the 2 mullet for me in the end.

Hi,

So, I've just got back in from my first night dive and I'm obviously now keen for more...! However, I think that I should invest in a secondary/brighter torch (currently, I have a Underwater Kinetics SL3). Therefore, I am keen to find out which models are recommended by the more experienced "night divers" out there?

After some initial research on older posts on this forum, I am currently considering these two models:Yezl Q2 and the Xtar D06. Any thoughts/experiences on these torches (or others) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

As a N Devon contact for a few, would like to ask a return favour.
Will be in sidmouth bay Monday / Tuesday. A viz report Sunday would be really useful so I can decide if to pack spearo gear (or let my kids fill the boot,) Thanks.

d06 all the way mate. But make sure u get a Panasonic, seynybor, torchy or xtar battery of at least 2800

Thanks for the recommendation Speerolee,

Looks like the D06 it is then!

And just a couple more questions...

1) Do you have any other tips on rigging up a safety light to your float? Or do you not bother with this, as perhaps the light emitting form the torch is enough to let other water users know you are in the water?

2) Is it worth investing in a mask torch too? And, if so, again do you have any recommendations?

Many thanks for any guidance once again...!

...and yet another question...sorry!

Currently, I have been attaching my speargun to my float line with a stainless steel carabiner (like this one Carabiner Attaching Accessories), but I have now suffered two occasions where the gun has become mysteriously disattached from the line and my float has drifted off into the distance while in use! Luckily, on both occasions I was diving with a buddy and he noticed my rapidly lengthening distance from the buoy and alerted me...resulting in nothing more than a lengthy swim to retrieve my float. Obviously, things could have been far worse and I'm very keen to rectify the situation.

Therefore, does anyone have an effective clip/system that they use to connect their gun to their float line, which is both easy to attach/disattach, but also stays FIRMLY attached throughout use?

Many thanks once again!

I use a stainless piston clip on the float line and a stainless D shackle on the gun but you could just as easily use a bit of para cord on the gun.

Hi all,

Been about a bit over the last few days,

Bigbury bay VERY quiet, lots of dead wrasse on the reef, big ones too, viz 3-4m but very little life? One bass seen and VERY skittish.

Went exploring and found a scallop bed, took two live ones and found many dead shells as I didn't have much time! I was very please as never found any before! Also lots of razor clams too but didn't see any live ones... Is there a trick to get them???

Saw a large friendly bass in an estuary which I think is a reserve so didn't have my gun just exploring... A shame as he was a sitter!

Managed to cut down on smoking and can easy dive a lot further than before, and getting fitter which feels really good! Swimming or sitting on the bottom at 8m and feeling relaxed is a big achievement for me!!!!

Just need someone more experienced to head out with so I can learn some new tricks and get some hints on kit, rigging and hopefully FINDING some fish this year. I've never known it so poor for Bass, I am thinking about keeping a log of tide winds swell etc so I can work it all out!!!

A spot further off Pen lee point provided a few large bass 10lb plus for my friend on rod and line on live mackerel a few weeks back but he has had nothing since.

Am back in Saltash for a while now so if anyone fancies a dive let me know!

I don't usually take Lobster but I know how much Shiny likes the meat in the head and the minging green stuff in the body. I will have the nicer meaty bits. Some small bass taken as well but nothing of any great size

Hi All,
In today with my new neighbour in his small inflatable. Hit some local spots, bumped into Olivier Crazywind009 and his crew. First dive I landed on a huge fish 15lb+ easy - shame it was a salmon and it took all my nerve not to shoot it. Came home with two bass of decent size and three mullet. Mullet were plentiful but bass were scarce. All the better fish were in holes and caves.

Got in last night with viz a poor 1m max, took a bass and a unexpected plaice which was nice. Pushed on but the viz really was a problem, so moved on a couple of miles and ended with another 5 bass also Lost two others. Viz slightly better 3m in places, climbed into bed at 4am so quite a slog.
Biggest bass 4.5lb, 2 x 4lb. No mullet seen and still waiting to beat my PB of just over 5lbs, let alone a double figure.

Terry I'm diving very local to me so viz changes on same stretch of beach.
Cheers lee all your info pays off mate.

Nice work Lee.

Did a Torquay dive this evening and came away with a decent mullet. No bass seen at all and only a couple of mullet swimming about. Vis was changeable but generally 2-3 meters. Pretty pleased with my down times, training is paying off. If only there were more fish!!!

Cheers.
