5m in the bay at Kingsand/Cawsand on Friday. Brown crabs, spider crabs, a large wrasse and a weird dizzy spell at 7m which was rather scary :-(

Babbacombe was about 4 metres vis , but very few fish !!! I got 1 small mullet and after a fight with a very large crab I ended up with an aching thumb and only 1 claw , which on its own weighed a tiny bit over 1lb !!! .... Terry....

Anybody fancy a dip this week before Friday. New to this so could do with a bit of guidance. Live in north devon but willing to travel down to south coast no probs. I ain't no spring chicken but Im not a moaning old fart neither. Cheers all

Hey Dazlw,

Ive been keen to get out this week...although I have a small puppy at home so fairly restricted on how far I can travel at the moment. I was thinking about pooping off Budleigh this week some point if you are keen?

I'm hoping to do a dawn raid tomorrow...

Anyone know what the vis looks like on the Bigbury side of the coast? Wind looks good...

Cheers,

Well, I plucked one bass from Torquay spot a couple of hours ago. Saw plenty more and decent sizes but a combination of poor vis and range meant only came away with one.

Everything has been late this year though, maybe it's the same for the Bass, perhaps that's an optimistic view though! :)

Gill nets maybe?

Still, I've got my fingers crossed for tomorrow...

Well done DAI as soon as they turn up you kill them !!! lol , I do not dive Torbay much and never found much in the way of bass , and then only small , they may be there but the normal vis means I can not see them !! lol Terry ....

Just back from dive after work, stayed local 2 hour dive low tide. Not the best conditions or tide but didn't really have a choice.
3lb bass & 2 mullet around 2lb mark, had few problems with my torch just as a 6lb + mullet cruised out of the kelp. Viz now no more than a metre and with a gentle SE swell building called it a night.

Hi all,

Am fairly new to spearing and freediving and been getting out and about in south devon a bit recently (I live a couple of miles from slapton). Had a good read through this thread and picking up lots of tips all the time and lots of help getting started from Venture Sports. If anyone is keen to meet up and share any more practical tips (technique rather than sites!) then I would love to do that. I have quite a good knowledge of the south devon coast from above the water, not so much below the water, so am spending a lot of my time exploring potential sites.

Cheers

Tom

Any vis reports for the South Hams (West of Salcombe)?

Will be heading there tonight for the weekend.

It's not bad on the west facing side. Wind is going to change to change I think which will mess things up...

I'm going out this afternoon and I'll report back

Bantham webcam on MSW looks very settled... Wind tomorrow is also showing as NW but might be gusty in the morning. Hopefully we're in for some good conditions.

Good to hear back if you head out!

Been some swell in the bay. Not sure what south hams is like or been. I'm thinking about heading that way over weekend. My season ends as of Monday off to arbroath for 2 years....I don't think Spearfishing is a word used up there often if ever.....

I dived Plymouth Sound this morning. Flat as a pancake and 4-5m viz in the shallows, 6-7m at depth.
Off on a night diving exploration tomorrow night, hunting after the ever elusive turbot.

I guess they might teach you to do it this way:
