Dived babacombe today and got a congr ell wich im think was abought 20 lbs i will post a pic tomorrow . Dived down the side of the pier looked around the holes, as i looked under a edge i saw a head above me and there one was looking right at me , i moved back and just as i lined him up he went back into his hole. Moved around the corner and looked throw a hole in the wall and saw him the same one this time i got him , right in the head, the hole i shot him in was smaller than the ell so i had to pull real hard to pull him out but he would not come out. I pulled so hard the the spear came out this mad me real angry:head . Dived back down and saw him again try to escape out the hole i first saw him in ,shot him again this time throw the back. I got a big audience looking at me and the conger wrestle. got my knife out and cut his spine wich killed him instantly. Every one took a picture of it when i got it on the pier. As it did nt fit in my bag i had to carry it over my shoulder wich got some funny looks:confused: on the way home:) Pic will be here tommorow.

Excellent story. Very topical too, considering the recent discussion.;)

Nice one spearheads what did it taste like? I find them a touch to strong for me.

I was thinking of giving goodrington a try on Friday as I often see fisherman along the cliffs , Anybody given this a go yet ?

It was veary tasty ,strong taste but not as strong as mullet actually better tasting than mullet. The only bad thing is that there are quite a few bones.
Cooked it i cider and onions with tyme ,with some crispy potatoes and carrots:t Cant post pic till tomorrow now as i cant find the cable for the computer to download it of the camera. Diving hopes nose on saturday as it will be flat 2mph wind.

Dont worry about Killer whales mate.. No one has ever come back and reported and attack...but a few divers have just gone missing!

Apart from the odd GW and Mako there aint too much to worry about in south coast waters.

Why would you be afraid of something with such a nice looking skull.. eeep!

I was in Teignmouth the weekend viz was pants and there was a massive seal about so i got the rods out n stayed in the boat caught 8 bass 6 of which were under size and went back! Seen loads of bass jumping, just want the weather 2 sort itself out so i can get out there!

Dived yesterday afternoon and i was surprised by how clear the water was 6 /7 meteres. I shot 1 bass 1 golden grey and 5 pollock the pollock were all around 3/4 lb they do seem to be getting bigger. I Also found 7 scollops. NO NO No winter is here strong winds and lots of rain:head down here. Is it good or bad diving winter or not i can this year as i have an elios suit.

Anybody been in the water recently?

I was wondering whether there might be some vis in the torbay area?

It's been three weeks so I decided to give Babbacombe a go today. Viz was variable - sometimes I could see the end of my spear, sometimes I couldn't! Saw a few small Pollack and Bib and that was all but it was good to get wet again and see how much the water has cooled down (not too much yet).

Dived hopes nose satarday the viz was crap 2/3 meteres. Only shot one bass wich was resting under a ledge on the side of the nose it was 5 pounds:) . I swam out to some deep water were the scallops are collected 6. The shore looked a long way away and then i starting thinking abought makos and the water dirty didnt help so i swam back closer to shore after another hour looking for bass i got out. I do wish the wind would calm down for a week so i could get a few more dives in before winter sets in. Hoping my suit fits next year:confused:

sounds good. Any pictures? I wonder about that area in a swell. I only shore dive and although places like Thurlstone seem to be able to handle a foot or two of swell I wondered it would be better further out. The winds are set to be easterly for a bit, is it worth going over? I haven't yet tried the 'Books' at Thurlstone, which is easily swimmable from the beach (for a young pup), any good in the current conditions?:)

Saw a scan of my melon the other day and saw the extosis in my ear (boney growth). Booked in for surgery in 3 months time, must get some diving done before being dry docked.

The observant ones out there will notice I have now moved to Exeter. Anyone want to get wet?:wave

Tell you what guys it would be great to see some pics of these fish!
Speahead I though you were going to get a camera for your birthday?

foxfish my birthday is in April long time yet. I have a digital camera all ready but i lost the cable to download pictures on to the computer thats why i could nt put the pic of the conger on . My camera doesnt have a housing capable of holding it so im buying a new (connon something camera ) Got 300 pounds but the temptation to buy a kakay keeps popping into my head:)

Jez Torbay will veary bad this weekend theres an eastly blow all weekend oh poo ,its going to be supper choppy:head

My first ever outing with a speargun was to The Books. I saw (and missed) quite a few bass but have never got around to going back. In a calm sea it was an easy swim with no current problems at all. I must go back sometime when work and weather permit:)
