jez, bigbury bay this weekend is looking good for wind, swell is still 4ft at 10 seconds on sat, dropping sunday so inshore may be a tad murky, you may find thurlestone sands murky as lots of soil/dust in the sand, try hope cove or yarma (more reef and rock, less sedement) or the books mid tide pushing. a kayak trip from hope cove to bantham would be a good bet, stay tucked in under cliff out of wind. get in at first light when things are still active.
Im trying ansteys cove tommorow walked my dogs on walls hill and had a look the viz looks good and not much swell. Hopes cove is a bit open on a eastly

Interesting problem exostosis as its frequently found in waterpolo players and kayakers. must be the splashing about or something as not that common in divers. nice easy op though and as its outside the eardrum wont bugger up the middle ear
So bored with looking at the sea Ive just made a new gun with some spare bits and some carbon tube. Its a snazzy greeny black flecked look very warlike!!The tube was only £12 and a close fit.

its very common in surfers and hill farmers, i think the connection is evaporation/wind/cold?
dived bigbury bay, 7-10 mtr viz, saw fair few fish on sat early nothing big enough/worth having, then nothing seen sunday at all, force 6 ish east, not a nice morning on the boat. nothing in my pot either.

Down in Pentewan Bay in St Austell I set a pot a few times over the summer, with a small drinks bottle set to only pop up @ low tide. I thought if I couldn't find it at high tide then I could always retrieve it later. Mackeral heads were on the menu...
First time I set it, near rocks on a clear sandy bottom, it caught a couple of 6-7 inch edibles, which was great. The following time I put it near some weed near the sand and the day after it was full (20+) of little swimmer crabs with red eyes (you know the ones...).
So... the motto of my expedition was keep off the weed :t where possible.

Interesting for me Spearheads - always on the lookout for new spots to dive. I guess mainly sand further out? Pier and short reef on one end and headland/ short reef at the other? Are there any other features to the seabed you can share?
I have not dived there myself but what does it take to ruin the vis - is it very protected from southerlies/south easterlies? Does a big rain downpour spoil things aswell?

This is a very good spot and the viz can be great up to 8 meteres. I aslo had my biggest bass there this summer wich was 8 pounds if i remember right. There are 2 reefs here one wich has bad viz if its been stormy but this is were the bigger bass are. 200 yards out from the red rock is the best spot. Some days there are so many bass circling you cant decide wich one to shoot also out on the sand to the right there are golden greys sometimes. i also found my biggest lobster under a rock on that reef. This is the reef on the right hand side of the pic were the rock is as you can see after a storm the water goes red from the sand stone rock. At high tide the rock is almost submerged.
The second picture is along the rocks towards babbacombe this is were i dive more often as its much better viz sometimes amazing and on the back of the reef is a drop were the pollock hang out try and keep on the edge of the reef close to the beach. The biggest bass i shoot here is 6 pounds . The second reef has very thick kelp and big rocks to hide behind and string weed or what ever its called.
