South devon Report 2009

After 7 weeks i finally got wet!!

The suit was loverly and warm so many thanks to anthony at venture sports for getting it in for me.

Unfortunatly i wasnt spearing i was bubble blowing, i needed to test out some new kit before wednesday.

Me and trelawny dived off the beach at heybrook bay, did 60min dive was great to get in the water again Vis was about 3-5m and the water was quite rough.
Saw quit a few pollack, nothing of any major size and found a few crabs but only took 1 which we later released to fight another day once we got out!

The dive itself didnt cause any problems with my arse but the walk up the hill afterwards with twin 10l 300bar cylinders was a killer!!

its alright if you dont mind dodging the flying lead from the the fishermen

in summer the ski boats like to park there in the afternoon so best tackled in the morning or late evening although you shouldnt have a problem this year as we had summer back in January roflrofl

Hey all,

I expect to see some great dive reports on here after this weekend, winds supposed to be swinging around to 'N'ish and swell reports look about 2ft near plymouth. so hopefully the sea will clear up and some fish will come out to play

Guys,

Just a little heads up, while paddling the yak from Gorran Haven, to the Dodman and back to Chapel Point I found a couple of little friends which I hope would sting the idiots being towed by idiots in speedboats who do not have a care for anyone!

They are only a few inches across but will give you a hell of a kick if you get them near bare skin.

On a better note I am hoping to walk the dog first thing followed by spearing for a few hours followed by yakking......shame the wife and kids are at the in laws until Monday!!!!! Yippeeeee

Seriously at least these are little buggers as th efull grown ones can have tenticles over 30m!

I never new that they aren't a jellyfish but are a number of animals that join together...so the BBC report said.

Still I am determined to get out tomorrow so wait for the action packed report!

PS Pete, I had an embarassing moment at Asda the other week which was all your fault....I bought nuts and the cute young till operator gave me a dirty look until I cleared it up with..."it is alright I am only buying it to see my mates arse which is in this months issue!" the wife though that was a great explanation!

hello every1

been in for a dive today ,around budleigh area more towards the sandy bay. vis was still cloudy but workable within my first dive saw a nice shoal of bass and took 1 which was 2 1/2 lb ish .couldnt stay in that area as the tide was ripping through so went round the headland .saw a few more bass and took a mullet there not of any major size. swam on a bit took a dive rested in the kelp slowly looked to my right and could see 3 shadows coming towards me ,turned away and 5 secounds later turened back 3 5-6lb bass were right next to me i tried to stay steady and could see one of them starting to head infront of my spear but in all the exitment i twitched the spear and they all bolted were so close i could feel the power of the as they said goodbye.
had a few more dives sighting some bass and mullet but no shots on, finally dived down and in the kelp next to me was a nice bass measured 53cm so happy as larry and defo my biggest to date.

yep chris seems to be bigger fish bein shot m8 i love fishin on new moon always seems to be more fish that and a full moon cheers laz

went for dive today with crazywind didnt have quite so much luck today .Also for the first hour my mask was leekin ollie tried it on loosened the straps and it was fine after that so must have had it on too tight .so after tht managed a mullet and a pollock notheing mssive but a fun dive in the end . saw p crawford out and he had an impressive haul olie had an equally impressive haul ....

Hey Dan,

Out to the pots after you boys got in and saw not a single silver fish!!! Tide was strong in the stringweed but only wrasse and small pollack moving through though one wrasse was about 7lb, biggest i've ever seen.

Thinking about a drive/dive on Sunday? Fancy it?
