Hi All,

Got in last night with North1 at Exmouth, and yes, it really was Exmouth, not somewhere that looks like Exmouth. We had a great dive even though the sea was lumpy and the vis less than 2m in places. Dave had some cracking shellfish action and I snagged a bass for breakfast. Looking good for Sunday dive.

Tribs

Left for spot Budleigh on sat afternoon but it was so windy me and Tom headed for spot Babbacombe which was well worth the trip. No decent fish seen but didnt have to be around Tom for long to catch crabs...

4.5kg and 3.5kg brown crabs and 2 x 5kg spiders. Pretty happy.

Thanks to Tom for loan of a bigger pan!!

Because yesterday was such a nice day, I decided to shun all the local spots and try somewhere a bit more remote. I looked at the charts and found a nice looking target. After picking up Rowan, we headed over to West(ish) Devon.

An hour later we arrived at the spot. There was a fair bit of swell running, but we were diving the otherside of the headland so we were a bit sheltered. A walk through the fields, down the cliffs and we were there. The water was clear and refreshing after the tab down in the sun. We were diving a shallow water shipwreck, so were on the lookout for some decent pollock.

There were lots of places to look too. Sections of ship, hull and deck plates, engine blocks and hatch covers all providing brilliant swim throughs. There were even some complete rooms to explore inside. But no fish, except for a few small pollock. Lobster hunt instead then. Rummaging through the gullies and under sections of hull plate turned up two decent lobsters, and a small one that was completely rust coloured.

We bagged them, put them in a rock pool and went back for a better look around. In a gully was three lengths of brass pipe; further out, a couple of valve tops and half a porthole. We got these to shore, but by now the wind had changed and swell was up, so after four hours we called it a day. Loaded down with scrap and with Rowans lobster pinching him, it made for an interesting, if somewhat tiring walk back up the cliffs.

A 10lb edible crab with one claw must be the biggest ever reported on db?
I have been setting pots all my life & never weighed one that big!

Well done Ollie. That's a nice fish.
Just got out of the water at Budders. There were lots of bass about but couldn't get any to come into range. So no fish for me.
Saw two other spearos out there. Anyone from on here?
Well done again Ollie and nice to see Dan is getting back in the water.

Great stuff Ollie and big congrats on the Bass sir.
Can’t rep you mate as the system won’t let me until I spread the love so I owe you some at a later date.

Sorry guys - scales I usually use show in kgs, but used gf's scales which read in lbs without thinking! If anyone wants some heavy readings I would recommend this method! So - I actually had a 3.5lb and 4.5lb brown crabs, 2 x 5lb spiders. Still happy!

Yes, still a great catch :)
If it had been Kg it would have been the catch of a lifetime!
