South Devon Report 2012

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Yep 200 lumens is not a lot nowadays.
To me (and I may be incorrect!) this torch looks like one of the many Chinese manufactured torches that are flooding (excuse the pun) the market.
With these Chinese torches it seems that some people are lucky and others seem to get a lot of issues with them. I think the quality control and attention to detail on them may be in question.
The site you link to looks like a classic case of an individual importing a few torches into their garage to make a few quid. There is no contact address, no landline, no company number and the terms and conditions are rather basic.
With the majority of these torches (from any seller) I think it’s a classic case of buyer beware.
Ultimately if you are going to take a punt on one of these torches (as many have to varying degrees of success ) I think there is better performance/value torches to take your punt with.
Either the link that Broseidon provided or try searching for MJ-810.
There are a few extensive threads on other scuba diving forums that have discussed in great detail the pros and cons of some of the available “good value” torches that are out there.
We looked at importing some ourselves, however we could not satisfy ourselves that that the items would not cause us and our customers more hassle than the “saving” offered.

you could have just said they crap anthony :)

lol, I wouldent say that it is quite that simple.

For the money they offer amazing brightness/value - to get a branded torch near the same spec will cost about 3 x as much or more.

The problem for me is how inconsistant the quality seems to be.

Some people have been running these lights for years - others seem to not make it past 3 dives !

On top of that there is no official importer for them so warranty and service etc is a bit up in the air,

oh ok, i give in - there crap :D

Scott! honesty died years ago! This is 2012. Honesty is a rarity these days.

Not at all seriously said Anthony - well done - nice to see a business man not prepared to rip customers off for a quick profit. Credit due.

Not really im afraid. All of the "small" Intova (or Tovatec" as they are now called) are 220 lumens. I would not be suprised if they launced something brighter in the near future in the same small housing, but i have heard nothing yet.

They do produce 2 "larger" led torches. One is 500 lumens and the other a mere 2000 lumens :D:D:D - However sadly at present the UK importers do not bring these into the country. I will do some digging and find out why not.

Big thanks to Anthony for my new gear:D:D:D

Was a pleasure to meet you at last.

by the way, If anyone knows of any jobs going, North1 may need one as it seems he has has lost his position as crazywinds personal shopper!roflrofl

I love my Intova (bought from Venturesports) as a daytime torch as it is compact, robust and plenty bright enough for checking out lobster holes and dazzling congers. At night it is my backup with my Princeton Tech as main.

Same here Matt. Ive had mine about 3 years now and its been put through hell. The intova Batteries last for ages which is a definite bonus :)

A few of us from Plymouth got in for a dive a couple of days ago. The sea fog was quite thick, so the ride out of the sound was slow to say the least. It was very calm with no swell. We jumped in on top of a shallow reef. We could easily see the bottom 8m down from the boat so we knew we were in for a nice dive. The water temp was a balmy 8deg. Horizontal viz was touching 20m. Only a couple of wrasse were out to play, and on a sandy patch was a lone Spotted Ray. We found no crabs or lobsters, but it was an easy dive to start the season.
