Nice crisp, clear videos mogsychief :) Visibility looks good in Pembroke - similar to Cornwall. What length speargun are you using, 90cm+?

The tidal range is so wide on Gower (Bristol Channel: second largest tidal range in the world), you have to be careful and visibility is often poor. Perhaps easier if you live there (or stay for week) and can check conditions (weather, water clarity & tides) regularly & pick the best opportunities.

Thanks Mr X. I tend to use 75cm guns, anything longer and you rarely get to see the end of it in the water!

Interesting. I most often use my 75cm speargun for the same reason. A couple of years ago I stayed at a beach in Cornwall & dived the same beach every day, after a few days I switched to the 90cm - although the visibility wasn't great I figured a little more length might help, and it did. But that is the only time I've done that recently.

BTW I lost my favourite snorkel diving off Oxwich Point on Gower last year. Just a simple, old, black Typhoon J-shaped snorkel but I had it and used it on & off for 40 years and was very comfortable with it. Reward & postage refunded if anyone finds & returns it. Although I suspect it washed ashore, possibly in Oxwich Bay but perhaps more likely on the Port Eynon side, or perhaps on the rocks inbetween, within days & would most likely have been binned :(.

I have this weird notion that the sea gives generously its gifts but from time to time demands a present in return. I suppose it stops me kicking myself too much :D

Anyone been out this year yet? I'm hoping to take the kayak and the gear to either st.bridges or the little cove by lockley lodge April time. Have any of you dived out of that little cove before? Hows the viz looking down west?

Havent been out. But vis is dreadful from coastpath. Havent had a decent spell of weather for it to get its act together yet.

I think lockley lodge is in skomer marine nature reserve. Tend not to fish there as it is frowned upon. Great snorkelling though when vis is good. Not allowed to take scallops from there either. Also, watch out for strong tidal streams towards the sound.

That's not what I was hoping to hear :( I've seen this week that parts of Cornwall are getting 4-5m so I was getting my hopes up! I'm thinking middle of April might be a better time to ask after we have the usual massive tide at the beginning.

That's good to know thanks, don't want to be getting chased by any locals, it just looked good from google maps! I'm thinking St. Brides will be my best bet then, looks like a nice little cove with plenty of rocks and weed either side.

I fish at st brides alot. Early in the year tends to be ok for crab and occasional lobster. Dont tend to see many fish until late summer usually though. Beautiful spot. Easyish to get kayak to the water and tends to be one of the first spots where the vis clears up. Not much to worry about in terms of strong tidal streams.

Flatties over the sand, bass later in the year and last year had some big pollock there too.

Lovely spot to dive.

Sounds promising, thanks! I've only ever really targeted bass and seen as I can't do that until July, going for flatties and pollock will make a nice change!

Keep us updated on the viz, I'm itching to get in the water now!!

Recce down to St Brides yesterday. Didn't go in though. Vis looked about 2 meters max looking down into the deeper water off the rocks. Still lots of rain water pouring in from the stream and about 1.5ft swell on occasions. Massive tide too. Could be better later in the week before things change again for the worse.

Any viz about? Expecting a big tide this weekend which will write most of south wales off, hows it looking further west?

Any good spots around Swansea? I'm hoping to head out on Monday perhaps... Also, anyone currently looking some training near Cardiff and want to set-up some pool sessions?

The viz on the gower is absolutely zero at the moment and it'll take a while for that to change so you'd be best heading west but I'm not sure how the viz is that way but it'll be better than Swansea/Gower!

Any viz reports from Pembrokeshire way?? Hopefully going to get in this weekend if there's viz about!

Divers at St brides this afternoon reported 3-4 mtrs vis this morning but reduced this afternoon due to wind chop swell coming straight in at low tide. Didn't look good this afternoon at low tide close in looking down from the rocks.

I was in at St brides this morning at high tide. 3-4 mtr vis. that should get better over the weekend with the weather being dry and smaller tides. Not much about - sand eels of all sizes an some small pollock. Was looking for flatties but didn't see any - don't think the recent rain has helped.
