Great vis today, not many fish about, a pipe fish and a few pollock. Vis was upto 6M covered a fair bit of ground around st brides bay, some patches bit cloudy, but as i got further round the coast away from beaches the vis was cracking. No fish big enough to take seen, still waiting for it to really come to life again. Has anyone caught anything recently?

just came back from tring my gear out, little bit of a crap day to try becauase the vis was about half a meter in Gower. overall im chuffed to bits with all my new gear I couldnt make any complaints apart from I need another 4k on my belt... lol snug as a bug in my new 7mm cressi technic and my Seac Shout fins are the dogs bollox.

Would anyone like to buddy up next week an take a newbie spearo out? :)

you weren't in at hunts by any chance ? I kayaked past a couple of snorkellers and wondered why they were in - the water looked like soup ?

Nah I was on my own somwhere my misses dropped me off. No idea where as I have no idea what half the beaches are called down there as im a Valley boy :D

hi everyone,
Me and Dawsie got in on saturday,05 may, around manobier, and ,well the viz was totally pants!! if their was fish we would not of seen them. combination of the May bloom and massive spring tides I think. However all was not lost it was Dawsie's 1st time spearfishing so we focused on diving techniques and loading on the surface etc, all good stuff. Anyway regardless of what the conditions and cold wind could throw at us, Dawsie did really well and is hooked.
Jaymz, I've got a technica suit, its bloody marvelous, the best suit I've had, the quality, cut and fit is excellent for off the peg. I recommend getting an undervest, then youll be well toasty.

How do you all feel about starting a cardiff, south wales group/club !!!!
meeting up, planning trips etc. could be fun.

regards to you all

PirateSteve.

In my experience manorbier always has pretty poor visibility, it does improve if you head left around the cliffs into deeper water, or you can walk part of the coast path past the kings coit and climb down into the deeper water from there. The reefs especially teem with life at the cliff base and into the sandy beach. If you didn't spot it there is a huge bed of water cress growing in the stream that comes out on the beach. When the visibility is good enough, and i've never seen it more than about 6-7 feet it has huge numbers of spiders and quite a few doggies, edible crabs, bass and big wrasse. Haven't spotted any lobsters there yet. If conditions aren't ideal i usually don't try manorbier as it only clears up when other beaches near by are looking positively carribean.

caught a dozen scallops today, anybody got any recipe suggestions? I was going to try and bake them or bbq them in their shells?

Stackpole vis report, this evening, no metres. Got some big spider crabs after persevering and diving in awful vis. hundred of sea gooseberries, and a bloom of small red blobs, so not holding much hope for time being.

Worse than usual, i haven't snorkelled since February, the visibility was better then than it has been since

surfed a small swell at west dale tonight. water was lovely and clear there. i would guess 4-5M

St Brides bay was excellent today, loads of fish, 5-6M vis, better in places. took three pollack, 3-4lb and a nice flattie. schoolie bass seen but none big enough, lots of spiders and lobster aswell. really was a case of choosing what you want to take home for dinner

Excellent again today. lots of big pollack about, flatties and small bass. After 45mins or so had a problem and got a major dizzy spell when on a dive, totally lost my orientation and bolted to the surface. I felt very nauseous when i got to the surface and headed back into the shallows. Got hooked up by a fisherman on my way in, didnt notice his line as i was not feeling right at all. I think it maybe an ear problem. Be out the water for a while as i have to go back to work. hopefully everyone will have a good season, looks like a good week ahead.

how you feeling now Radman? seems a bit scary fella. perhaps a lack of oxygen made u feel unwell?

Ok now, felt a bit kind of wobbly for a few hours. It was scary, luckily it happend before i had gone neutral. It felt the same as when you have had too many falling over waters and the room spins, and when i kicked hard for the surface it was totally unco-ordinated. i was diving deeper than i normally do, no more than 10 metres, shame as conditions today were as good as it gets round here and there were alot of fish. had two decent pollack on the stringer for fishcakes tonight so it wasnt all bad.
