Good news
Last week came back from work, lied on the floor and tried some statics.
On the fourth one I did 5'08". Slowly starting to come back and with some training will beat my PB (5'28") and hopefully will reach 6' by the end of this year..
Who knows...
 
Very good news!
I woke up this morning and tried some statics.
In my third one I broke my PB of 10 years ago! 5'30"!
It was quicker than I was expecting to be reaching that mark.
When I stop improving I'll start combining diet and physical training to see where it gets.
I think this website opens your mind not only to techniques and tips but also to believing on your potential.
It made my day....

I have yet to find a heart rate monitor which can measure heart rate after packing the lungs. For some reason packing the lungs changes the shape of the heart waveform, confusing most HR monitors. However, even manually checking my pulse, it is usually 110+ in the first two minutes, slowly decreasing.

Yogis say that one is accomplished at holding the breath, when the breath can be held for 1000 heart beats. I figure the most I've done is about 800 beats max. The thing is, the yogi methods of breath-holding can involve insanely slow heart beats, so at 10 beats per minute, 1000 heart beats would take 100 minutes....

Congratulations to everyone who has done a static pb lately! I myself just did a wet pb yesterday and hope for more to come! This is the first time I've ever really started practicing wet statics, in anticipation of the 2004 worlds....

HEART RATE METER BOGOSITY

Dittos on the observations (Alun and Eric) of bogus readings from heart rate meters. I've used the loathesome Polar gizmos for years, mainly for non-diving applications ( some not fit to discuss in this family-oriented context) and know all to well that they produce spurious numbers under certain circumstances.

One feature of the low-end models which I learned about recently is that apparently they are unwilling to display any number lower than 45 beats per minute. I noted this was the lowest reading I was getting at the bottom of the 30m HMS Dolphin tank in England, even after waiting calmly and patiently for several minutes. A couple of weeks later, when I disclosed my shameful defect to a friend, he told me the meter won't read any lower than 45.

Sometimes, on the treadmill, the thing jumps up to 170 or so after the first 30 seconds of running at a very moderate warm-up pace like 7.0 mph, then trickles down to more plausible numbers over the course of 3-4 minutes.

I've phoned Polar a few times with questions about these and other complaints, but have consistently found them uncooperative, unfriendly and unpleasant.

That said, I do keep buying and using their products. I have lots of complaints about them, often wish I'd never heard of them, they make me angry and frustrated at times, and yet I stick with them and can't do without them. Hmmmmmm...........what does this remind me of .......???

Good news!
One week ago I had broken my PB of 5'25" doing 5'30".
Today I came back from work, lied on the floor and tried some statics.
New PB! 5'45"!
I had set a goal of 6' before the end of the year.. but it could be possible before then.. who knows..
I would like some advice from anyone who has trained physically for statics...
How much can we improve with trainning and diet?
I haven't started any specific training or diet yet

With the improvements you are having, I would advise you to change nothing to your current routine, until you reach a sticking point. If you were to add additional exercises, diet, training to your current routine, when you are breaking your bp by 15 seconds a week, you would never know how if it contributed to your results or not.

Today I did my first ever dry O2 table in the chat room with the help on Ben_lecler

Did 5min 15 sec which is 45 sec better than my first ever and only other try at dry static last year.

We are going to be doing static table group training in chat room so let me know if you are interested to arrange a group session.

I want to do 6 min soon

By the way 5:15 was set sitting in my office chair this evening after having run 7 miles in the morning. In case that makes a difference.

Broke my PB again :D

5:25 on Friday morning.

I managed to do 3 x 5 minutes with 3 min rest but could not go any further than 5 min. Not that it was intentional but just 3 failed attempts at a new PB .

I then gave myself about 5 - 6 min rest and went for it. At 5:15 it was hell but I managed to hold on for an extra 10 seconds. I don't think I samba'd but I was lying on my bed so its hard to tell.
 
Good job Shaca! I think the real test of your progress is when you back your pb up by several statics that are within 30 seconds of it. Then you know it was not a one time event and you can duplicate and even beat it. That is what you have been doing with several attempts 5:00 or better.

Congrats Shaca you are 1 minute ahead from me.Could you please explain a little bit more about your dry O2 tables that you are using on your warm up??

Hey Aydyn,

To tell you the truth this was only my second table. I did my first last week whilst on the chat with Benjamin_lecler

He asked if I wanted to do one with him and gave it a shot. It started with one warm up hold to first contraction. THen 2 min rest and start with 2 min hold. We carried on with 2 min rest and upped hold by 15 sec every time until we got to 4 min. Then increased rest to 2:30 up to 5 min and 3 min rest after that.

The one I did for new PB I went up in 30 seconds each hold starting from 2:30 after the first warm up. As mentioned after 4 min rest went to 2:30 and 3 min rest for five and up. I managed 3 x 5 min and finally gave myself a bit more rest and got PB.

I think if I did this a few times a week I will be on 6min+ quite soon. My problem now is the huge contraction I get after about 4:30 which nearly makes me cough. I think a few CO2 tables will help hold these off.
 
What am I doing wrong?

I started into this seriously about a year ago and I seemed to hit a brick wall around 3 minutes last summer. My PB is 3:16 at 4' depth and 3:40 dry. FWIW I have been able to manage 2-2:30 "swims" in the diving well on a regular basis however.

I havent really used any special techniques other than a pranayamic 5:0:10 rhythm for 10-20 cycles prior to going under.

Can anyone help?
