Really great vids! Where do you guys go out from? I've recently moved to Shoreham Beach and have joined my local dive club (Scuba), but would love to do some spearing (bought a gun last year and still havent used it!). Any advice would be gratefully received, are there any decent shore dives locally? Or will i have to befriend someone with a boat? Thanks in advance.

Most of the posts concerning Kev's stunning videos ended up on other threads , despite being filmed in Bogonor and posted on this thread .
We have few enough posts as it is and can do without missing some because no one knows we exist .

Those are great videos, thanks for posting them. What a great breath hold & shooting -- thought that first bass looked small, until I read the title! Must have been a distance away.
BTW while browsing other spearokevin videos at the above links, I came across this. Pardon my ignorance but what are the striped fish under the rock? I think I've seen something similar in Dorset although they didn't appear shiny in the murky conditions on the day, nor as big.

They are Pout, very edible, taste like Pollock just small and not worth fussing with IMHO.

Don't often post on here but am glad you liked my clips.
Mr X. - that hole goes a long way back. Fish were originally way out of range. Shot the fish when it came just in range of the 90. Would be better to film with the zoom in a bit but the camera doesn't have an image stabiliser so it gets very jumpy.
Yes, fish in the other clip are pouting/bib. (same thing)

Pout, pouting, bib or flobbers are common in holes on reefs and especially on shipwrecks. They are also seen over sandy bottoms mainly at night.
Most inshore shoals of pout comprise small juveniles. If you want big ones you need deep water and wrecks. They grow to 5+lb but over 2lb is a good one.
They make good eating but like their cousin the whiting they spoil quickly, much quicker than pollack say, so you need to gut them and keep them cool to ensure they remain edible.
The pictures I took on a wreck in 100foot (on scuba) using a home made camera case and a pentax 1000 SLR - old school.

) .Good to meet you too Kev . The kayak is set-up as simply as I can make it but still have a bit of comfort , the padded chair and backrest for example isn't necessary but it's a nice luxury . It does save on the swimming , doesn't help spear 10lb bass though !
Tried again today , vis' was quite poor and the calm morning sea chopped-up come the afternoon . Saw lots of gars and many schoolies , taunting , mocking ... but not much else .

Can I ask what camera and housing you used for those films of the bass? I'm using a Go-Pro Hero5 at the moment, and really want to upgrade to a better camera and improve the quality of my footage.

Got a picture of that Kayak set-up? Think I might just attach my dive hunter to the back of mine and pull that along all set up and ready to go (I'm gonna end up looking like a Naval convoy going travelling across the horizon, but hopefully it will get me to the spots I want to reach).

I just use the movie function on a normal digital camera. (Canon Ixus 75 with the canon housing) Quality is more than good enough for Youtube and is vastly reduced for the Youtube compression. It dosnt have image stabiliser though which would be great and its a bit old so dosnt do hi-def. I think panasonic have a nice little camera which has these functions. Its just for a bit of fun so I dont use a proper video camera.

Gaz , here's some pic's of my kayak ( I hope ) . All nice and simple , the anchor gets clove hitched to a bungee , the middle kept clear to get in and out . GPS fixed to middle hatch lid , padded seat for comfort , guns clipped on the back , flag is fixed in a fishing rod holder , trolley kept in back ready for landing and a line and float on the back for fishing in tides , easier to drift to a line than fin back to the kayak . There is a fish-keep clipped to the side as well . In the middle hatch I keep a phone , VHF , compass , torch , spare mask and snorkel , goodybag , water and most importantly a flask of tea .

guess i should be posting in here on my trips out as im on the island,
how is every one doing?
i got out yesterday over at freshwater on high tide at 4.30, was not any good still quite milky, did both side's of the bay but nothing, when i came back in saw 3 bass but where to small, around 2lb,
i left there and went of ryde pier head, vis again was not great at all but it helps to use the structure as a guide in the merk, got a 4lb mullet which i gave to a fisherman at the end of the pier, not a bad day really but a long 1,

Kev’s rep score will show up after he’s posted a few more times, and don’t worry he’ll have plenty on the score board when it does start to show up.
He needs to post some more reports as he is not eligable for the Hall of Fame or FoM either yet.
