Sussex Spearing 2012

It's likely to be horrible & murky this weekend I think. We need a week of nice calm weather & we have just had some big spring tides which wouldnt have helped the vis.

Hmmmm, yup you're right, it's gonna be useless. I'm quite encouraged by the sound of Brighton though, might give it a go.

It'd definitely be a good idea to get out to one of the mulberries once the weather looks up though. I'm sure that'd be within the remit of my boat and the diving videos on you tube are pretty promising!

Sounds good. The slipway at east beach is open now & useable from about 2hours after low water

Hello Liam

Me and a mate just got back from Dorset went for a dive up that way vis was about 3m or so. Looking at the sea today off seaford vis looks terrible going to need a couple of days for that to clear up.

Apparently there is 3-4m vis around selsey lifeboat station at the moment. Just trying to get the wife & kids ready to go for a look.

just got back from working right on the beach in folkestone, even with the chalk cliffs the vis looked almost ok there. if anyone is keen to give eastbourne a go today im game. might head out a bit later when the tourists head home.
liam.

sph88, should have listend to you! got down to eastbourne pier, thankfully just for a stroll with the missus to check to see if a nightdive might be worth a shot. pea soup as always. getting jealous of the dorset guys.. all i can do now is crack open a beer and enjoy the last of the sunshine!!

Yea don't blame you mate got your message will give you a shout when we are next planing on going for a dive. As for Dorset proberly won't be for a few weeks or so as am quite busy.

Selsey was tempting but I got in at Bognor today to try out the inner reef. It was pretty shallow a mile out but there was enough viz (2-4m) to allow a shot to be taken. Sadly nothing presented itself apart from some wrasse and small pollack.

I wanted to find a slightly deeper mark with boulders which i've heard about but we didn't find it.

No fish, but great viz considering the awful weather over the last month, I'm sure it'll clear nicely soon and the fish will all appear.

nice one guy! when this vis sorts itself out we'll get back out again. what gun did you go for in the end?

I wound up going for the Mares Phantom FV 75 from diving direct and liam, I'm counting on you to help me set it up :p ( I bought a cripping tool, the monofilament and the bungee) hopefully that should be enought to get me going.

Cheers buddy,

It's a good choice, I've had the same gun for a couple of years and it has speared many fish. I think the 75 is a versatile length of gun which is well suited to most uk waters.

Hope it brings you some luck!

nice, 75 is a good length, especially around our way, and itl be a lot quicker and easier to load than a longer one. im keeping an eye on the weather and seeing how work pans out for a trip to dorset next weekend, but i have a feeling i might end up having to work.
rigging wont take 5 mins so no worries with that!
