little fingers out with palms down. I've a 50cm gun and I made a custom dyneema wishbone for it, I've tried loading it at my chest with palms down, little fingers out and believe me I've got full control over balancing the wishbone. The main thing is, when you are using 3 fingers 2 of them usually slips to the dyneema and gives you more control when balancing it.

Which finger do you use to control the wishbone?

If palms down the index finger is closer to the wishbone than the little finger.

okay let me tell more clearly..
grab the rubber with your left hand with palm down. Naturally the thumb will stay under the rubber and the other 4 is up on it. Then drop the little finger outside the rubber, now you are grabbing it like a bird with 3 long finger up and thumb down. Slide your thumb towards the center of wishbone and stop 2cm apart from center. Now do the same with the other hand.

While you are loading it naturally you put force on 3 of the long fingers and index fingers could balance the dyneema symmetry after a few try..

I have been reading your posts regarding the Totem guns with great interest. I have been thinking about ordering one ( or maybe two) for a while. Your posts have helped me a great deal and I have enjoyed reading all the comments from the others on this thread as well. I do have a few questions I'd like to lay on you if you don't mind.

1. Can you tell me the overall length of the Tahiti 120 from end of muzzle to end of loading butt?
2. Does this gun use an open or closed track? I mean can it be used without a line or do you have to have the line to hold the shaft in place?
3. Can you order the premium handle on the Tahiti (like the one on the Pelagos)? Do you think it enhances the feel of the gun and is worth it?
4. Where are you getting your backup 7mm shafts from? Can you use any Euro style shaft or must it come from Totem?
5. You mentioned getting finned shafts for easier loading. Which brand will fit this gun?
6. Will the balance of the gun be thrown off seriously by using other size shafts? Or shafts from other companies?
7. I have tried using the order interface on the Totem website but it doesn't seem to work. How did you order your guns?
8. Did you get a price break by buying 2 guns at the same time?
9. Which brand of reel did you get?

Wow. I didn't realize how many questions I had:duh All this pent up excitement. After reading all your posts I know I need another gun for my collection. I'll stop now to take a breadth. Thanks.

Dear Divefan,

Welcome to DB. I will answer your questions as best I can

1.I will measure the overall length for you and post it Tuesday.

2.The gun is open track and needs a line to hold shaft in place.

3.You could order the Premium handle on the Tahiti but I prefer the original handle I think. I normally dive with thick gloves and the Premium is a bit too wide for this. Both handles are real comfortable and work just as well.

4. Totem trigger mechs will work with any euro shaft. (Not sure about riffe euro shaft though. Totem use Devotosub shafts on their guns and you could order spares from them.

5.Devoto makes finned shafts, as you will have seen on the Tuna model. The only other finned shafts I can get are Demka shafts. The Devoto notches are filed down by Totem so they do not cut the Dyneema.

6. The guns are hand balanced and will be perfectly balanced from stock. Unless you use a very different (thickness/length) shaft this should not be affected noticeably.

7. I am in contact with Fabrizio (Owner of Totem) very often. I could place the order for you if you want PM me.

8. I did get a discount for buying 2 guns at once.

9. Totem is now making their own reels. The T100 and the T80. Both are superb reels. Very simple with a real smooth drag mechanism. You can view them on the site under accessories.

How its goin? I have question at this point. Are those reels made up off alluminium or plastic, can you adjust reel sensitivity from very smooth point up to lock the line up?

Murat the reels are made of plastic. The drag adjustment has rubber orings which allow for plenty of grip (needed if diving in cold water).

The drag can be preset from completely open all the way to locked. It is an open reel which prevents blockages from occuring.

I have contacted totemsub and am ordering the Tahiti 120. Id appreciate if you could give me some info:

1. How durable is the line release mechanism?
(It does not appear clearly in the fotos, and seems to be a bit too "delicate")
2. When you had your guns delivered did they arrive in perfect condition? Was the packaging made by totemsub satisfactory to withstand any damage?
3.What were the delivery costs to Gibraltar?

Hi Ntrix,

The line release mechanism is not flimsy at all. The whole trigger mech is simple but really rugged and can withstand a lot of abuse. The mech itself is Laser cut from 8mm AISI 316 stainless steel foil.

The guns were in perfect condition. They arrive in a thick cardboard box which is completely packed in newspaper to stop the gun rattling about.


I cannot remember the exaact price of delivery as I got a discounted price for buying 2 guns and a number of other accessories.

Ive been courting the Tahiti 120 for the past three years and must say that your fotos coupled with your personal account of the gun's attributes have been decisive in my finally placing the order.
I also want to add that this forum is by far the most specialised of it's kind, and the sort of concentrated knowledge that is readily available here in any thread, is a gift from heaven for any underwater hunter.
This becomes obvious if you consider that some years ago picking up a speargun for the first time, urged by the "virus" that is spearfishing, it would take one years to figure out simple things like how to compensate, while techiques like the aspetto might have eluded a spearo forever.

I ordered a pelagos 90 last summer and loved the gun but when i opened the box the loading butt was snapped clean off!!
I am a carpenter so it was just a matter of some epoxy and a stainless steel screw to fix it. Also all you guys out there that are bottom hunting with these gus beware of the shafts they are very nice but brittle. I got three shafts with the gun and have none left . I shot a few 20# bass and with them thrashing around they were able to bend the shafts at the loading notches almost to the point of snapping and as you know the line attaches behind this point so a riffe euro shaft is in order for my gun,
but the gun itself is very accurate although a little fragile

Did you noticed any "high shoot" because of the rubbers pulling from below of the shaft?

Some says parallel pulled bands (closed euro muzzles) are shoot more accurately than rubber pulling from below (open muzzle)...
