Re: 2008 Fish Spearing/Garbage removal contest entire year - Wisconsin

Well, Today was a Blast and very wearing! I'm beat! :crutch We found the carp today. They were on the FAR end of the outlet and there were lots. I had to empty my stringer twice! I ended up shooting 13 carp myself, JON got 14 and Dusten 4 for a total of 31 carp shot today. The hardest part of the day was trying to get 31 fish up the hill in garbage bags.rofl There were lots of Muskies, and Bluegills, some Large Mouth Bass. We were in the water for about 3 hours. It was a good time.

It was a great day, but I am beat!:crutch

It's been a while since I've had to swim that far while dragging so many fish behind me. I know one of my legs even cramped up on one of those repeat swims to back to shore to clear the stringer. From what I can gather, by looking at a mapping site, we all swam at least 1.5 miles dragging no less than 75 pounds of fish along with us each time. I'd say that counts for my workout today.:friday

When I first got in the musky where everywhere- I lost count at 25. Some of them where pretty big and they seemed a tad bit more aggressive than normal. Lots of them had shown signs of past encounters with fisherman as their faces were all tattered and deformed.

The big carp started out by the pipe and then moved far away into the colder weed beds. By the end of the day we had most of their hiding spots figured out. I ended up with 14 fish, but I could have doubled that if I had a bigger stringer.

There were also plenty of panfish swimming around but we didn't bother with them today.

I shot some decent video, but am too tired to do anything with it right now. zzz

Jon

I love CLOSE UP pics of fish faces.....Thats so cool...Beautiful creatures in thier own way....even though they are carp! :martial

Good job cleanin' up the lake...Hopefully a few years of that might even make a pretty big dent in the population!

Wow, that's incredible! last time I saw that many fish was at a fish market! You definitely had a much better day than I did. I went to urgent care yesterday as I thought I had the flu bug that was going around, I wish. Found out it was a bit worse, found out I've got pnuemonia, oh well, it sucks to be me! Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be as good as new. Scot, what are the plans for all those fish?
Later,

Brian

bjpete- I use them as fertilizer in my fields. It's actually not even enough- only covers a small area. I also am going to buy a smoker here pretty soon- I'd like to smoke a small one and see how it taste. I hear they are horrible, but I would like to try it my self. We probably could have got more- but didn't have enough stringers on. WE found where they were hiding though

Brian- I hope you feel better soon! You can be sick going into spring. I Hope You Get better

I thought we were giving those to Gene as a going away present?

Smoked carp is pretty good- if it's done right. Those smaller ones we got yesterday would have been pretty good for that.

Jon

hey jon i was going to let you know i ordered one of those stringers lastnight that you were talking about spetton had them so i ordered one for myself to see how it works out

I'm going to let them stink up first- then dump them in his yard!

That stinger idea- Looks cool.

That would be one going away present. Better hope I'm not home as you will hear a 45 barking at you as you wonder why your tires are going flat. :martial Then the stink will be reloaded into your disabled vehicle! rofl

Great shooting guys! I hope to find a sweet spot like that in WA...perhaps with 200 lb halibut...:inlove Now that would be awesome!

Keep up the good work.

Rain, I love rain...I'll just keep my wet suit on all the time!

Gene

Gene- the next thing you need to get is a Underwater Camera- I'm excited to see your diving adventures in WA.

.45! that's it? rofl

ILDiver, dotey and myself were in the balmy 38 degree water for about 2 hours. Vis SUCKED! about 5 feet!! :head I'm guessing it's bad vis because of the wind we had yesturday? I still ended up with 4 carp, ILDiver got 1 and dotey got 2. For me, I would dive down to the bottom and swim around READY to SHOOT. I got to try out my new Hammerhead 75cm. I was amazed on how Quiet it is. Fairly easy/fast to reload. Even though The viz sucked and the pipe was off- we still had a good time. Applebees afterwards was GRRRRREEEAAAATTT!
