After reading bout those stunning numbers that you guys had yesterday, 38F and 5' vis :(, I decided to go for a bike ride instead today.

I went to the outlet first and, besides the lack of any vis, the water was BROWN!:head I biked over to the good weed bed and it had a sheet of ice over it- surrounded by more brown water.

Next, I headed out to picnic point to check out Mendota, but there was some kind of a St. Patrick's day fun run blocking my way. :head :head

That left me biking up and down the Yahara river. Water is crystal clear, there's no ice on it anywhere, it never gets deeper than about 4', and I didn't see a single fish anywhere along it!:head

I biked out on the pier by Tenney locks and there is some open water up in Lake Mendota just off the entrance to the locks. The water was crystal clear and devoid of any life that I could see- also very shallow looking form what I saw was open.

I think my diving days may be over for a few weeks until something clears up.

I did see some photos my father-in-law took this week on some of the wrecks out in Lake Michigan- vis was well over 100'! Of course the lake is cold and all the diving takes place at 120' right about now for the good stuff. No fish either right now on any of those wrecks. There's also sheets of ice out there that you need a steel hulled boat to break through just dive- which he has. Fine if your a scuba diver coming up the mooring line at the end of the dive, but something to bonk your head on if you're freediving.

Anyone else have a good spot to go- for now?

Jon

It always seems the third week of march the shore ice begins to go. It may be gone soon. In the mean time we have to see the crap that flushes down with the snow. I heard theres about 3 ft of ice out there. so it may take longer if we don't get any windy days to bash it about. The good news is this snow is soaking right in, good for the groundwater and the runoff. Real soon its time to kayak too. Had the bike out? you lucky dog!

I took a look last night and the place is melted wide open. The pipe was on and I could even make out some large musky swimming around.

Of course, the water was BLACK, not brown, and pretty disgusting looking! I'm not jumping in there any time soon. :yack

ewwwwwwwwwwww no thank you i will pass on the outlet in madison i hope it clears up soon

Comming from Hawaii, reading this has to be one of the most depressing things ive done in quite some time.

yeah but i didnt work this weekend thought maybe someone went over there

I will be running by the out let maybe a few times a week to once a week and will post on here how it is doing and everything we will need to know i will start off by going tomorrow and will post it when i get home around 11:00 that night

:head:headwell i ran by the outlet today on my way to work and well it is gross but i may have found the problem as to why it is so bad the had a crew of guys in the water with that little barge thing and they were taking down the walls so i plus is the water is way open but not clear at all so looks like well have to hit it when scott & chris get back from the big pond :ko

When we get back it will be time to hit the other lakes. Unless ya'll Northerners gits more snow.

yeah, when we get back- all the lakes should be open. Mendota, Geneva, golden, wood, Crystal- There is a big list I want to goto before June. We may be done with the outlet till next fall. But, Keep checking ;)

Youtube has rules on what you can and can not post video of. Unfortunately, you fall in the can not category. :) You have only killed what...4 carp this year so far and two of those you were by yourself? Not much of an opportunity to get you on video.

Actually Dusten, your wife requested we not put pictures or video of you on the net. But some have leaked out. She is afraid you will be the next David Hasselhoff and she will lose you forever!

Now that there is funny!rofl

Dotey - We'll get some MONSTER carp under your belt this year! David Hasselhoff ain't got shiznit on you bud!
