After reading bout those stunning numbers that you guys had yesterday, 38F and 5' vis
, I decided to go for a bike ride instead today.
I went to the outlet first and, besides the lack of any vis, the water was
BROWN!:head I biked over to the good weed bed and it had a sheet of ice over it- surrounded by more brown water.
Next, I headed out to picnic point to check out Mendota, but there was some kind of a St. Patrick's day fun run blocking my way. :head :head
That left me biking up and down the Yahara river. Water is crystal clear, there's no ice on it anywhere, it never gets deeper than about 4', and I didn't see a single fish anywhere along it!:head
I biked out on the pier by Tenney locks and there is some open water up in Lake Mendota just off the entrance to the locks. The water was crystal clear and devoid of any life that I could see- also very shallow looking form what I saw was open.
I think my diving days may be over for a few weeks until something clears up.
I did see some photos my father-in-law took this week on some of the wrecks out in Lake Michigan- vis was well over 100'! Of course the lake is cold and all the diving takes place at 120' right about now for the good stuff. No fish either right now on any of those wrecks. There's also sheets of ice out there that you need a steel hulled boat to break through just dive- which he has. Fine if your a scuba diver coming up the mooring line at the end of the dive, but something to bonk your head on if you're freediving.
Anyone else have a good spot to go- for now?
