Nothing around lymington, you might want to try hurst castle near keyhaven. Havnt tried it myself but it is worth a bash, dont go out near the spit, there is a raging current. Try the bay near the lighthouse.

Hmmmm, looks interesting. Also looks like you need a boat to get out there or a 4x4 to go along the sands, if you are allowed. If not looks like parking up at Saltgrass lane & New lane & walking across the bridge, then about 1500m walk, or could jump in just after you walk across the bridge.........

Has anyone been out in the last day or 2 or is the weather washed all the vis out? any info would be great as i would like to get out rather soon.

Cheers

Ash

I haven't been out, I would try this weekend, but i am up in Thetford this weekend, bummer I know.

Get the little ferry to hurst castle and the bay round the rear of the white lighthouse? Just walk across the shingle to it and bobs your uncle...

Even more interesting, thanks for that, maybe worth a visit.

Ferry from 10.30am to 4pm.

Anyone up for club dive today? Any ideas?

Sorry Paul, i can't make it as I have an ear infection.

Looking on Windguru, looks like there is a south south westerly. Low water looks to be 18.30 or so. Maybe Durleston or Newtons Cove or Sandsfoot.

When will we get a nice northerly so we can do Lulworth, Ringstead or Osmington again?

Hi Guys,

I've just joined the site as I have recently acquired the kit to take up spearfishing. I had a go a couple of weeks ago in Cornwall and loved it. As you can see I live near Poole (Lytchett Matravers) and would like to meet up occassionally on Tue nights if that's okay. Unfortunately, I work in Portsmouth so getting to meets on time (particularly West Dorset) will be tricky but we'll see how it goes.

My set up at the moment is fairly basic but hopefully I can upgrade this as I go along.

My other main hobby is fishing (either shore plugging or from a kayak) mainly in the Purbecks. If the vis is no good then I can always get the rod out!

Paul,

I may be able to meet up tonight if the timings suit. Either Durlston or Sandbanks are okay. I'm not sure though how long it takes for the vis to clear following the recent South Westerlies?

Hi Chaps,

Due to scratchy viz, I am gonna do my own thing tonight. Let Broughy know if any one else wants to organise something. Hopefully go for Lulworth next Tuesday?

Cheers

I've just got the text, I'd be up for a go at Durlston if anyone else fancies it, Though It'd be more like 7 o'clock by the time I could get in

- I popped in at sandbanks last night and vis was poor + theres a bit of wind tonight.

Hi guys
I could phisically not move today after night dive with Tonny yesterday night (til 3:00!!!) , My son was singing and shouting and jumping on top of me AT 8:00 am.The dive was spooky but nice (complete begginner),little viz though,Tonny had 2 nice lobsters (he is so prolific!) ,I had 2 claws, which we had as an appetiser today and were great,I really need to train to shoot fish with torch in left hand without loosing my cool ,not getting tangled myself with float and been effective !!!,I missed 2 basses and I don't understand still how somebody can be so gormless.
Anyway nice temperature ,sea calm ,great night.
Sorry I could not make it tonight
I hope whoever is spearfishing now is very successfull and happy.
Regretably next tuesday on call so I ll miss it again
Kind regards

Hi Phil,

Sorry couldn't meet up tonight - not ideal viz for club dive. Hopefully Lulworth next Tuesday. Don't worry if you are late - we all meet up in the pub after dive about 830

Cheers

Met up with Sam last night for a dip at Durlston. Vis was not great at 2-3 metres; but good enough. Bay was nice a calm although neither of us has any joy. A couple of sizeable bass were seen but were out if range.

Fingers crossed for some settled weather!

Went on a chrisreynolds ultradawny special this morning......in at 05:30 after a bit of a drive. Sea was a millpond. Foggy though. Made the walk to be greeted with perfect spearing viz.......3-4m. The tide wasn't as i would usually dive this spot but it was the only time i could get a ticket to go.
Stealthed through the japweed for a while, saw some nice mullet and some schoolies then BAM! fish number one on the stringer....4.2lbs. On through the japweed and over the kelp then suddenly, right in front of the gun appears a fish of about 7lb. In my haste i shot low and had to suffer the humiliation of having him watch meuntil i just about reloaded then he was gone. On some more and a few more schoolies seen but nothing too big (i'm absolutely certain they were there but the weed is so thick at the moment that i just couldn't see them), so i headed back in. Had a few dives and just as i was about to ascend on dive number 3 a brace of beauties cruised by and i managed to pick off the smaller one....3.9lbs. Not much seen after that so i thought i'd take a walk to another spot.....still the wrong tide (or what i thought was the wrong tide from experience) so i got in wide of the mark and drifted round in the weed. The water on this approach is about 5 feet deep so i cruised along the bottom towards the rocky drop off. Suddenly, making its way along *'an article' on the seabed towards me was another brace, one being at least 8lbs, the other probably 5lbs. I tracked the big one to within a foot of the speartip, pulled the trigger......and MISSED! aaaarrrrggggghhhh!
Dived the rocks and found keeper number 3 under a ledge, 4.6lb. Surfaced, put him on the stringer and dived again.......same ledge, new fish. BAM! 5.2lbs. By this time i was running very late and in danger of upsetting the missus and making the boys late for swimming so i decided just to swim in in the shallows and get out with the bass still in hand and gun unloaded. Big mistake. As i came through the weed in about 3 feet of water i noticed a small bass cruise out into the open...then another slightly bigger one followed, and another. Then 3 about 3.5-4lb each came swanning past me out of the weed as if they knew the gun was unloaded. Loaded up, bass still on the shooting line, but it was too late. Hey ho!

As usual - rubbish stuff Chris. One day you'll improve and start getting some bass!....

Good effort on the fish, and good story just shame about the ones that got away.
Hope you all enjoy the rest of the year diving as i'm now away until next year.
Will be in touch when i can
