Wessex Spearfishing Club 2010

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Doesn't seem to be too many people attending the most important part of the club meetings at the moment: the after-dive drinks. There was only three of us last night, from a total of seven, who were in the pub to tell lies about the evenings underwater experiences.

It's obviously not compulsory, and people have often got other things they need to get away for, but it is nice to get together afterwards to swap stories over a quick pint.

If we all agree a time to be out of the water (8pm? 8.30pm?) that should hopefully leave half an hour for a quick bite to eat/drink/banter in the local boozer, for those that are interested.

Seemed to work ok last season (remember those curried hotpots, or whatever they were, at Lulworth last year?).

Hey Gaz - good idea for next Tuesday - how about Lulworth:friday

Just reminding everyone that it's an option, if they feel like it.

Gents, I don't mind staying on for pint, plus I can pick your brains on what you guys get upto in this area & what you find best for you.

That's Lulworth mentioned twice, no three times now, maybe that will be goer for the club meet.

Good effort Scott,

Pick our brains as much as you want (although I'm warning you, you'll find them largely empty): it's what we usually do in the pub afterwards anyway (along with lying about past catches), it's a proper case of the blind leading the blind! :)

Wind guru is smiling favourably upon Lulworth at the moment - so I'm happy to go with that (curry hotpot, here I come!).

No need to be a member prior to turning up (attendance confers membership). Just keep an eye on this thread for the weekly time/location and then make your way down with your gear.

All welcome!

Hi Guys
Just realised that there is a local club. When do you guys meet up? Any chance of a beginner tagging along? Like a beer and a bit of spearing!

Cheers

Everyone seems Keen on your idea of Lulworth thus Tuesday Gaz. The viz may not be good tho? Christchurch Ledges & Poole Bay were next to nil viz today. Anyone been near Lulworth or have any other ideas or shall we just go straight to the pub...

The forecast for Lulworth looked good last week, but things have changed a bit since then. I think we will struggle to find workable viz this week, and might have to cancel the dive.

If I get time later I'll go for a drive along the coast. Keep an eye on the thread this evening and I'll let you know one way, or the other, if I find anything do-able.

If I'm not diving then I probably won't go to the pub - rather save up the good will with the missus and use it for another day.

Like I said, I'll try to get along the coast a bit later for a look, but wind guru is predicting southerlies for tomorrow, so I don't hold out much hope.

Switching offshore late afternoon though. Windguru says 16:00 so expect it to be 15:00.

Hi All,

Looked at Burton Bradstock & West Bay & the viz looked poor. Some shore diving scubies said they had about a hands length viz.

On a better note, just got a call from Gaz who said that Durlston is like a swimming pool (hopefully not like after an old ladies water aerobics session). Awaiting his report later as he is getting in - Hence club dive may be Durlston...

Ok , had a call from Gaz and Durlston seems the place to be tomorrow as he said the viz was great and there was plenty of fish aound although small.

I think the road is called Belle Vue Rd and will meet about 5-5.30ish.

I will send out a txt to everyone again , anyone not recieving a weekly txt please pm me your number and i will add you to the list.

See ya there ;-)

Yep, there was a good 3-4m viz at Durlestone Bay today - a little bit milky, but at least the bloom appears to have cleared off.

Plenty of life about: pollack, mackeral, garfish, bass, and even a couple of squid came in to hover and stare at me like something out of The Abyss.

Didn't see anything big. A few pollack bordering on the takable, and a couple of bass worth shooting (so I had one of them). Best thing about the day though was being able to dive beyond 5 meters in some nice clear water, with very little current (which was unexpected after the recent windy weather). I was on the 90cm gun today.

Wind Guru is saying that the winds are swinging around to the south tommorow. Hopefully it won't affect the viz at Durlestone too much during the day, and it should start tailing about the time we get in the water (those winds would have hit Lulworth square on, so Durlestone is still probably the best bet).

Hopefully the viz will hold out until we get there.

See you there.

Gaz.

Edit: Yes, you need to be making your way to the top of the 'zig-zag path' in Belle Vue Road, on the way to Durlestone Country Park (the path is also the way down to the bay)

Wind Guru is now indicating winds from the south east for today (which is the worst possible direction for Durlstone!).

Sorted surf shop webcam ( Sorted Surf Shop - surf report weather boscombe bournemouth pier reef webcam ) is showing wind swell rolling in on the beaches at Bournemouth, together with a few white horses out in the bay.

Don't turn up expecting the viz that I had yesterday, as there is every chance that it won't be there (bring a shorter gun, just in case).

The wind should drop off whilst we are there though, and the tides have been fairly still throughout the day, so be interesting to see what is actually waiting for us.

Despite all this, it should still be fishable.

See ya there!

Wind is dying off now and the sun is trying to break though, i think we should be ok at Durlston as long as the swell is not getting in there.

will be good to get in anyway ;-)
