2008 World team championship - Sharm el Sheik

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Who from the Greek team was disqualified and why? Is it now all over, or still someone to go?

Protest seems to be about a red card for Dimitrios Chatziaslan for face/mouth under water after surfacing.

Just in : The greeks lost the protest so the French have won !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mikko P. did 202m!

Holy...Where did that come from? I knew he was in shape, but that just puts the national record 20m upwards.

Granted, it was about time the Finnish NR goes ower 200. The guy has talent!

I got unofficial information that Finland might be on the bronze?!?

Time for me to retire I guess, no country for old men...Oh wait, cannot make age my excuse either because of Antero. Damn, just need to start training again I guess :)

Massive congratulations Mikko! And of course the rest of you also - solid performances and white cards pays off.

I suspected Mikko might do something like this. Had hoped to reach 200 before him. ;) Oh, well just to start aiming for 250 m then...

Congrats! Great dive Mikko!

Here are the unofficial results from today.

France has gold, Czechs silver, Finnish guys take bronze.

Overall very interesting competition today, Martin S. coming up after 160m and almost blacking out, but got a white card. Ant blacking out again. Swedes also with one BO. Surprise of the day from the Greeks as already mentioned, Dimitrios coming up clean but doing a bad mistake (airways under water) during SP. Robert King DQed for forgeting his noseclip. Liv Philip trying without fins, and finishing a BO hatrick :blackeye:).

This should be the males result:
FRA 738,7 CZE 733,8 FIN 703,9 DEN 699,7 GRE 686,9 SWE 636,4 SVK 623,8 UK 610,9 JPN 600,6 RUS 507,7

They seem official now, thanks Ricky

Just for the fun I compiled a result chart sorted by the total number of points per capita:
wc2008percapita.gif

The column Points shows the total number of points given nation gained in all disciplines with both male and female teams (if they had both of them)

The column Teams shows whether the nation had both male and female teams or only one of them.

The column Population shows the size of nation's population in million inhabitants.

And the column Per Capita shows the number of points (in millionths) per inhabitant. The value is also divided by the number of the teams the nation had in the game. So it is in fact based on one half of the population. This makes it simpler comparing nations with both teams and those with the male team only. Although not really exactly just (the male/female population is not exactly 1:1, and also the points males and females gain are not 1:1), it is still more just than not taking the number of teams in the view in any way.

I am not surprised seeing Finland at the top, but it is shocking New Zealand is still on the 2nd rank despite all those disqualifications they had! Also seeing Slovakia on the 3rd place is a nice surprise. On the other hand, the 8th rank of Czechs is disappointing for me. Even bigger shame, though, is the last rank of the USA, where an US inhabitant gained only about 1% of the points of a Finn! :blackeye

maybe you should do another one with the the number of miles of coastline each country has? I'd guess Slovakia would do pretty well!

Yes, Czech R., Slovakia, and Switzerland would be the winners. Though Switzerland has at least some deep lakes, what cannot be told about the other two. Then we also might need to add another parameter - the average water temperature :) Most French, Italians, or Greeks would never put even a toe into the water where the nordics train :)

Interesting idea to divide the results per capita. :)

However I don´t know about samdives idea on dividing them by coastalline miles. In the nordic region the seas are usually so shallow that it´s easier to train in a lake or quarry.
