2008 World team championship - Sharm el Sheik

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
OK
Finnish are moving up. Three excellent breatholds today, leaving swedes behind. Danes are catching up with Swedes, thanks to Jesper (winner or Nordic Deep). Stepanek did good and Mullins repaired some of the kiwi CWT failure with a 8+ BH. But I guess the word failure is relative. Greece will move forward thanks to good breathholds. Wilson moved the USA ladies ahead with a 6.10 breath hold.
Only Two DQ´s Guerry Swiss one of them.

Guerry sneaked in a NR CWT on the lines this morning, some 75 metres.

Sebastian

Did I miss the times? I see the link for today and tomorrow's statics but what about today's dive times? Thanks.

there seem to be loads more penalties for Grabs at this WC than I have ever seen before - can anyone comment? Has the grab become the current judge favourite?..... and if so does that mean they have moved away from breaking people's lanyards???? : )

Any results from today besides the few ones mentioned above? I wonder what it would cost the organizers in terms of time and money to post the result chart to their website once they complete it. It takes one drag-&-drop with the mouse, and regardless how slow their connection is, we would be informed at worst within minutes. I do not get it why it is such problem.

You are right it was annoying, but knowing Ricky I can imagine he is doing 300 things at the same time. Now there is a RESULTS link on the web page, and you can download an xls with the complete status as of yesterday night. Thanks Ricky, it's really useful.

Was that really so? I thought that Norway was third in Nordic Deep, right behind the "mix team", where was one Swedish (Anders) whos living in Åland and two Finnish citizens of which one (Eva) is living in Åland.
In the video Anders L gets up at 16:30, and you can see Steinar Schager(nor) cheering just behind Anders. Then 8-9 seconds later you can hear Hanli Prinslo saying "Elisabeth is up." But they actually announced Norway in 3rd later on, which must be a mistake.

Thanks! It is appreciated.

On the other hand, I would hope that after all those years of championships where people continuously complain about the lack of reporting, the organizers finally get it. After all, there are many more people interested about the WCh who are not present on the place than vice versa. What did it take this time to upload the results? 10 seconds? Perhaps a minute of time? Two? Surely not more. If the organizer plans for it, the public can be informed pretty instantly, just seconds after the official result chart is released. Internet is everywhere today, so there is no reason it could not be done instantly, and without effort if prepared properly.

So please, please, please, all future potential organizers, please take the communication, PR, and reporting into your planning. Add uploading of the official chart to the competition website to your check list of things that must be done latest at releasing of the results. Better yet, upload the file after each change - in most cases it can be done easily, quickly, and even automatically with no hassle, so that the person responsible for the result list does not need to lose time and be in stress. All it takes, is little bit of responsibility, planning and thinking in advance. No cost, no time lost. Big satisfaction worldwide.

Ok, thanks for correction. So, congratulations Norway! PS. Waiting for the next years competition already! It was so fun :)

I guess 13:01 but very impressive any way for such level of disturbance :)
I was busy with Anders's SP and failed to film Elisabeth's SP.

I agree. It is essential for development of the sport that fans can follow the competition. I know it is not easy, but it is time to start thinking how to attract medias in the game.

Thanks for providing us with informations. I am looking forward to hear about the rest of the results in statics.
Good luck to all the competitors!
Ales

There is an hilarious report on .:: Freedive Dahab News ::. It contains section on noodles, Hotties Challenge, and a lot of other quite interesting information from the WCh. I laughed all along.

I liked also the following quoted part. Although it may sound little bit offensive, it was definitely not, and you have to read the entire blog entry to understand that all of it was written in friendly and joking spirit:

BTW, isn't there the DYN or STA discipline going on today? Or isn't it even already over? Any news from Egypt?

too true, thats a very funny blog, well worth the read

linda's blog is a must read!! so freakin' hilarious.
and linda i agree, that shot of hottie winner johan is terrible!! he looks a bit fat (like he is sucking in his stomach) and just slightly weird. much much better in real life!!

and yeah..well done everyone so far!!

Hooray, i'm back in England now! Sweet communication channels are restored.

Updates please! Very surprised about the kiwi lads but i'm sure this'll make for some excitement poolside. Out of the window with the "conservative team goals strategy" and in with the "go hell for leather, no guts no glory" strategy!

So sorry to hear of all the un-white cards with the British ladies, but be British dammit, stiff upper lip and all that. Well done to Stuart Bond with a massive dive in his first of many World Championships. Nice work from the other lads too, solid performances and happy to see none of rubbish that Tim had to go through last Team WC.

So what's with all the penalties this comp? Reiterating what Sam said, what's the flavour of the month this time around?

Best of luck to the rest of the competitors, wish I was there!

Cheerio,
Ben

ps. Just saw some of the static results... holy crap! Nice work from the Dave Mullins and the Finns, a lot of big numbers there!

Todays static was quite interesting, Ant with a BO after some 7 minutes, Will getting up two lanes further some seconds before with small samba but white card. Anelie got a red card because her coach touched her after surfacing. Official results should be at 11pm.

Hello to everyone, please could someone post here the results from static apnea.....:)

Hey there,

the German results are up on our blog: Apnoe Team Deutschland
I'm guessing that other people might have done the same and there are some links to more info on our site.

EDIT: The results of STA are actually on the organisers website!!! Wow! that's unexpected, but greatly apreciated.
