AERIS F.10 User Feedback

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Be sure and contact Aeris is your experiments fail. I've only run it 32bit under windows 7.

Okay - Doug asked me for the wish list last night and I just sent it off.

I suggested shorter dive mode duration - or ability to turn it off.

Repeatable down timer - so if you are doing interval training say allowing 90 sec total for dives including breatheup - you can program the interval and it will repeat it for you.

Add date to Gauge log. Some suggested replacing temp but I do not agree with this. For cold water divers temp is critical info that helps us evaluate our dive profile. Date is less critical. I suggested add, but not replace.

Wet activation control. Ability to turn it off or on whenever.

Increase duration of alarm clock.

they are right on this so I think we got it in the window.

Hi Fondueset

Thanks for your effort in this Aeris F10 discussion.

One of the suggestions was to increase alarm volume in watch mode. Hope you will email Aeris about the idea of a dramatic increase in volume of depth alarms in dive mode as well. With a hood and a carabiner sliding along the downline it´s hard to hear the depth alarms, and the noise in the swimming pool also drowns the alarms. This is really a point where they could solve a general problem with freediving gauges, cause as you know, its often necessary to put the computer under the hood to hear the alarms, which obviously pose a new problem unless of course one have very near-sighted eyes on the back of the head ;)

Another suggestion is the possibility to set the depth at which the computer start to log dives. For spearing it would be nice to have this opportunity so it is still possible have the features of dive mode without filling the log with a lot of short dives.

As for the PC software, there are a whole lot of issues, but I guess that is not a top priority at the moment.

Hope you will pass this on to Dough.

Very best regards
H!

Hello Fondueset,

I pm'ed you with a list of reported problems.

Would it be possible to give al problems and suggested features a unique sequence number, that would make communication with Aeris and us, users so much easier. This way problems can be reported as 'resolved' or 'pending' etc.

thanks a lot for putting this effort into it

Frank

Hi Frank

As mentioned - I think yours is one of those that should definitely go in for the hardware fix. Its not a big deal (not like a completely new set of hardware or anything we would even consider major) but I think it may eliminate the bulk of your issues.

cm

Uh, and one more for the road:

In time mode the computer loose a lot of minutes quite randomly. I believe somebody noted this in a previous post; couldn't seem to find it just now thou. Anyway, the loss is significantly beyond the 1 sec/day one could expect according to the manual p.76 / operational performance.

Hope you will pass this one on too for the needed updates, Fondueset?

Very best regards
H!

PS: @Ptoot, briliant idea with numbering the issues. When we are doing alpha testing for Aeris, it would be really good to keep the communication as clear as possible.;)

Herup - I dont' recall if you've had the battery problem - if so that would account for it.

Hi Fondueset.

Indeed I do have that problem too :blackeye So battery issue fix = time loss issue fix. Thats cool, thanks.

Very best regards
H!

No guarantee - but I don't have either problem - and if it is a static issue - as Aeris thinks - then it could cause all kinds of random weirdness.

Hi,
I would like to give some details about one of the bigger flaws of the F.10 - the not working WET activation/deactivation. As I now realized after several trys, this function is correlated to the FREE surface mode.
The FREE surface mode is either activated manually by pressing the M button (upper left) for more than 2 secs - or automatically by diving when WET activation is ON. FREE surface mode begins to count the time with your first dive and goes on with that for 24 hours, regardless of how many dives are performed - it simply counts. For this period of 24 hours, it is impossible to deactivate the WET activation - regardless of ON or OFF setting, dives are logged anyway.
If, on the other hand, FREE surface mode is not active any more, and WET activation is set OFF, you may dive with the F.10 and it does not log the dive - exactly what you want it to do WHENEVER you set WET activation to OFF.

So, to summerize:
- IMHO, FREE surface mode is a totally useless feature that is probably a remnant of a scuba-diving software. what should it be good for? It is just used as a "door" to all the alarm and utility settings, but I don't see any benefit for diving, it even makes the handling of the settings a bit bulky.

- If activated by a dive, FREE surface mode inhibits WET activation/deactivation for 24 hours.

I would bet that there is no F.10 out there which does not behave like this.
Further verification (or falsification) is appreciated :)

I hope the firmware update will eliminate this feature alltogether. The so called "update" I got on my F.10 didn't change anything so far.
At least it should be possible to deactivate FREE mode deliberately anytime.

Cheers,
Ivo

I have been researching the wet activation feature by doing the following:

I turned Wet Activation OFF the instant I received my replacement F10.

I have made sure I do not touch any buttons as to accidentally enter FREE mode which would trigger activation.

I have made about 50 "dives" over 2 months. It has recorded 24 of them.

I have done repetitive dives where it has recorded dives 1,3,4,7 yet not recorded 2,5,6 with absolutely no contact with the computer.

It has logged soaks in the hot tub yet not logged 100ft dives - so clearly depth is not an issue.

The activation and logging on mine is clearly unreliable and unpredictable.

I have e-mailed Aeris twice and it has been over two weeks and they do not offer even the courtesy of a reply anymore.

HI Will,

I gather you are diving with WET off and also Not turning free mode - so the watch is wrongly recording dives it should not record?

I copied your post to Doug and will let you know.

Scorp - the wet business - and the 24 hour free are part of the suggestion list I've sent to Doug. He is trying to seize the day during this window in which he has the engineers ears.

mine is going to aeris today
let's hope they will be quick
and do not need to ship it oversea

Sorry if you get this twice, my internet is in and out today....

Just wanted to let you know Scorp that I agree with your findings... after my last post I did some more tests over the Easter weekend and yep, couldn't turn off the surface mode count for 24hrs.

Keep up the good work Fondueset and the others... we're almost there! :)

So I received my replacement F.10. Apart from the issue where it still logged dives when wet activation is switched off, I periodically cannot get it to go into Free Dive mode. It only flashes a 0 in front of the time and then display the time.:vangry (as per attached zipped video)

The replacement F.10 to be shipped back for replacement. What gets me the most is that the watch cost me now 25% extra just in replacement shippings!!

Latrine,
I had the same issue you describe after getting my F.10 back from the shop: I tried to enter FREE surface mode by pressing upper left button for more than 2 secs, but got only the 0 infront of the time. I solved the problem (involuntarily) by holding the upper left button down for longer than only 2 secs (don't remember, 5 to 10 secs), and suddenly the F10 switched to FREE mode. now it works normally. Give it a try, unless you returned it to Aeris already .

cheers
ivo

Re: AERIS F.10 User

Just got my F10 from Martin Stepanek while taking his course, incredible to say the least. just a question I have, I own the oceanic Geo and i have the usb cable to download the dives, Is this usuable for the F10, it recognizes it, starts the 120 secs but then it says connection lost, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or it just doesn't work. Oceanic/aeris same thing, should work, I would me much better than spending extra $90

My buddy has a geo and I am able to use his cable no problems. I did have that problem but I don't recall how I fixed it and its been awhile. You may want to give Aeris a call or email - might be a driver or something. I'm quite certain the cables are the same.

Any news?

I'm still postponing my purchase because currently the watch doesn't look as good as it could be.
