AIDA DEPTH WC 2009 in the Bahamas.

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The women start the day better in CWT: The first two divers are successful - Cristina Kummel with 46 meters and Carla Sue Hanson with 50m (this was her first ever CWT dive!)

I guess it was their first competition CWT dive, not first CWT ever - that does not seem very likely. Still quite amazing

Hanako made her dive to 50m. Kathryn has not been feeling well recently, and did not attempt her dive today

It was actually Carla's first ever deep dive (past 20m or so) with the monofin, and only the second time she'd used one.

Olga Suryakova made it to 60m for a white card.
Junko Kitahama turned at 15m.

So far, the first 4 ladies this morning have made white cards. I will be heading back there shortly to see what else has happened.
Kathryn McPhee has been complaining that she is not feeling the best, so I am unsure if she will be diving or not.

Carla made her FIRST EVER cwt dive to 50m and got the white card :friday. I spent an hour with her yesterday teaching her the principals of using the mono for CWT and she picked it up like a natural, it was last min training to the nth degree. I am so proud of her!

Klara: white card, 62m
Jana: yellow card (early turn at 54m)
Jarmila: white card, 66m

The last three competitors all white cards:
Misuzu Hirai - 66m
Sara Campbell - 70m
Natalia Molchanova - 85m

Grattis with a place in the final. Klara. A great comeback from your cnf dive. Lycka til i finalen :)

thanks for the update Will.

sorry to hear Kathryn was not feeling well :(
she is such a good diver...

Hi, this is Carla. William suggested I try a cwt . dive since no other US women were entered. I was planning on cnf only. I borrowed a fin from Kerian and yesterday he showed me what to do. I had nominated 50m and a time of 2:30; not having any idea how I would do. I did the dive in 1:30 kicking the entire way. I haven't learned to freefall ,yet. This was only my second comp.

Well done, Carla! As for the free falling - that's something to look forward to. Maybe the nicest and most important face of the dive in deep freediving. You can probably add quite a few meters to your 50 m dive when you get the hang of the relaxation, equalization and balance of the free falling. Enjoy!

Carla you are an inspiration! Well done.

And I agree, you're going to love freefalling, so relaxing.
