Had another chat with the same rod fisherman from yesterday who explained his thoughts on the difference between today and yesterday fish-wise and it made a lot of sense.He also gave me a hot tip for flatties later in the year.....it's nice when we all get along!

Unlucky mate :) I didnt make it out today so am defo out tomorrow! What was the roddys theory behind the fish situation?

I went there today - slightly better vis - hardly any fish again, saw some mullet, left them alone. Nearly got hit by a cormorant which was chasing baitfish - those things can really motor underwater.

i'd be interested in the rod guys explanation for no fish - c'mon badlander spill it.

oh and i left a grey glove behind so if you go back there and come across it gimme a holler.

Well in short, he just reckoned that as the tides were approaching the springs, he found that you'd get fish just waiting for the tides to get to their biggest when they'd push right up high into the estuaries to feed.Until the tides were right for this to happen, you'd get a higher number of bigger fish collecting in the area of the estuary mouth.It would support what i saw in the days prior as there were big fish just hanging around for a few days then all of a sudden as the tides reached their highest the fish just vanished. He experienced similar catch results as he fished the same days as i did.Here today, gone tomorrow.
Could all be a bunch of nonsense of course and there could be a million other contributing factors but it seems to make sense.

v.interesting, I might have a google later on and see if anyone else subscribes to that theory, I certainly didn't see many fish at all this weekend, maybe my "throaty bass warble" has lost its appeal....cheers for the info though.

Went in yesterday on the north coast despite the hangover, mixed vis but saw bass and mullet , didnt take any home was busy testing out my new camera so dont think i was concentrating on my aiming lol

Plenty of fish about though!

Anyone watch 'Panorama' last night? Bloody good report on the sh*t state of our sewage treatment system and a bit of an eye opener regarding some rank outfalls around the country. Godrevy for example!

Any idea if its repeated on any of the sky channels?
I want to see what the Mullet have been eating this summer ;>)
I would guesse the east coast is full of shit but the waters seem so clear around Godrevy?!

Hey chaps,

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who gave me advice and tips while I was down in Cornwall. I didnt get chance for my final dive but had a great time regardless and fished some great new spots! Ill be back at some point but not sure when. Anyway, thanks again :)

Dived down on the south coast today. Hoped for less swell but as it was there were a few people surfing scattered about. Decided not to join them though as it was pretty small (bloody clean though). Vis was 2-4m i reckon and it was tricky due to the swell but there were a lots of bass about. Didn't stay in long but took a couple.
Now that it's autumn it finally feels quite summery!

Not till tue. Trying to tone down the amount of work i am doing to get ready to start. Done a good job too, surfing tomorrow, spearing fri, and hopefully looking at the weather trying out a new reef from my kayak on sunday. Fingers crossed! Tues at collage leading into the freshers fair!!:fridayThat should be interesting!

Had a good fun dive with plenty of comedy. It was the first time i have dived this place but i have been waiting for a while to dive it. Checked it out a couple of times without dive gear while with the family. Today looked great. Good winds, no swell (to start with:blackeye) and the viz looked good. At first it looked dodgy as there were no fish but as i worked my way around the corner the string weed started. Really thick string weed which was hard going as i'd taken in my rob allen 110 due to the viz looking good! As it happened the sun was lighting up the suspended matter in the water making the bass quite hard to see in the shadows so i should have taken in my smaller gun:head. I guess the viz was upto 6m but it was wired! I started to find single bass hiding in the weed and spent a while trying to size them up which was not as easy as normal due to the light. My first one was actually a good size even though i tracked my gun on him for a while trying to make up my mind if he was ok. I saw quite a few mullet but as i was seeing so many bass i left them go. As the Tide pushed i moved out deeper into the tide and dived to find my first sch swimming upto me. One came head on from my right and i had my gun aimed right between his eyes. Not wanting to kabab him i waited till he turn and,.........missed:head:head. Check the video! Not one of my finer moments but you have to laugh or you'd cry! He would have been about 4lb. I did miss one other but he was a long shot swimming tru the weed so i can live with that, especially after one of my bass was while i held the gun upside down, with my little finger on the trigger, as i had my camera reversed filming me while i dived. I will post that video when i get the days diving to music. 4 Bass in total and a new spot on my map so quite a good trip.

Oh, but i almost forgot about the swell! As a well travelled surfer i know how important it is to check out your entry and exit points when arriving at a new spot of the first time. When i turned up the tide was out exposing 15ft of sand infront of slippery rocks. The waves were about shin high. When i got out the swell had doubled in size and the beach was gone! Just smooth slippery rocks which i could see inbetween the waves. While i was checking out my options i noticed a very large seal checking me out. As i had 4 nice bass on my belt i knew i had to move fast but i then noticed a big shadow underwater by my feet. Not paying attention to mother ocean i failed to see the set wave which sent me arse over tit over the rocks follow by a second wave which also nailed me. I was lucky as i had been washed into a hollow in the rocks into which i managed to scramble out. Nice spot, quite a few fish although nothing big, just got to plan things better next time. Time for another stella to help ease the bruising.:crutch
