Yes it was. Got awesome fillets off it and a friend remarked that it was like eating chicken (in terms of firmness and thickness). It was the wingman for a huge mullet which could also have been a gg. A shame I had no scales on me before we scoffed it!

Not me, though i'm sure someone here must have.
Just got back from the south coast, same spot as last week with all the bass. Well, the conditions today were perfect....or so it seemed. In reality there were very slim pickings. I disturbed a large bass under a ledge that took off with a bang and that was about as close as i came all dive. Saw a few skitterish bass but no shots. Also saw a big shoal of makerel but they weren't having any of it. Grabbed a mullet on the swim back and picked up a flounder as i cruised back to the beach. Vis was great, water seemed a lot cooler today and i was pretty cold getting changed.

As far as guns go you are spoilt for choice
If it was up to me I would buy a cressi comanche 90 with stock rubbers, this was my first proper speargun and I still use it more than any of my guns

the length of the gun depends on you and the area to dive, I have both the 75 and 90 and take both on an atoll float when I do all day dives ( most of the time

Me too! I love my cressi comanche 90 :inlove - it was my first gun and has served me well! My brother regularly tries to pursuade me to get a new gun (he now has 3 different makes!!!!) but i have never had any problems with the comanche so why change if ain't broke? I have been thinking about getting a smaller gun tho as there have been a few times when hunting over different terrains when i've thought it would have been good to have a smaller one to get down and dirty in the boulders and caves etc!
Cressi do make reliable gear - like the superocchio mask! Pure Gucci kit! Never lets you down. Trouble is, after buying a cressi sioux 60 for £20 way back (a gun that can hardly propel the spear beyond the muzzle rofl) I just could not bring myself to invest in another cressi gun and went for OMER. Seems like the cressi comanche is a real step up though. The FN FAL of spearguns.
A sound choice by all accounts.
The first gun i got was a spearo venom and to be honest it has been great. Never a problem but i do have a soft spot for my RA 110 now.
Hopefully out tomorrow for a dive. Trying out the new reef on a spring tide. Hopefully the current wount be too bad. The winds are not great but if it is as light as the forcast says it should be fine. I will let you know how it goes. Hopefully with some footage of the reef.

Mmm... the border FN....aka in British terms...the L1A1 SLR.......the first gun I picked up in the UK was a Commanche 90...and I think I could still be fine with just it...but collections are collections.

Earlier in the season I saw a guy going snorkeling with a speargun that could only have been 7-8" long with a 10" 3-pronger shaft. It was some kind of gimmicky pistol speargun and it looked really ancient and rusty with perished bands. I asked him about it and he said it was about 20 years old.
I doubt you could catch jack with it. You'd be better off with a cressi sioux rofl!

In-between taking the in-laws sightseeing around Cornwall , I managed two dives last week . One on the Lizard and one near Lands End .
Both had similar vis' , about 5-6m with ' snow ' and both had similar fish life , lots of smaller stuff , not much in the bigger range .
I had one 5lb bass on the Lizard and two 3lb bass near Porthcurno .
The German in-laws never had bass before (Seawolf in German ) and are now firm bass fans .
Thought there might be more big stuff around at this time of year , perhaps the tides were wrong ? Nice to dive with some vis' and under water scenery again though .
For the guy who asked about Portmellon , I used to dive there quite a bit , there's a good reef to the right of the cove , which can be 'fishy' , but I've never tried in December , so can't say if it's any good then ( if it is tell us ) .

I got back out to my new reef again today with spearflap. We were'nt too sure what to expect with the spring tides due to it being about a mile out but it was great! Slight current at first but only for 10 mins or so then slack water kicked in fully. Being that it was our second time out we spead out a little more to explore. It really is a big reef with loads of gullies and holes. Plenty of room to avoid spooking your mates fish. Vis looked amazing from the surface and when we got in found about 6-8m. Perfect. Not as fishy this time. Finding the bass was hard work but I managed 2. Also managed a mackerel on the way in on the line.
I still have another reef which i have had my eye on all season but never got out to. Now we know what to expect on todays reef its time to check out the next one.

Got in for another night dive tonight , saw some small Bass a few Pollack that looked just about takeable but left them all. Finally came round a rock and bagged a 4.5lb bass which is pretty damn good for me so was happy as a sand boy
He played dead for a bit then went nuts and put up quite a fight - all my rigging got tangled in the dark was a complete mess Had to get out over rocks in the waves to sort it all out, hours of fun! Came back in over the sand but only saw crabs and baby flatties.
