Never heard that one before. Conjures up some rather odd images!

Well Thank %&*( for that!
Most of you will remember that I had a bit of an "incident" in April of this year that dented my confidence a fair old bit!!!
Well since then I have had very limited time underwater this summer due to Kids/Wife working/Red tide/weather/new kayak oh and a bit of a lack of confidence.
So today I looked ou of the office window and saw a clean sea.....very inviting....kayak or spear...well spearing won and off I went. My dearly beloved arrived home just before I left and so I had to set the computer up for her to do some work.........drove the 2 minutes to the beach...splutter splutter....knew I should have filled up on the way home from work!
Anyway, I walked home (only a few minutes away) and got the wife to drive me back to the car with the lawnmower fuel. I then drove to the beach.
Sea looked inviting so in I got and straight away felt the new fins were a bit stiff for me (sorry Ed) so only went for a little paddle around trying some breath holds and dives and really started to enjoy it again. Viz was very patchy with a hell of a lot of bloom and tiy mussels (due to the red tide). Then a quick flash of 2 fish, quick check and thought one for the missus for tea and bang - spear straight through what I thought was a medium grey, only to find a pot bellied golden grey (another PB) --this time I did not change my routine and killed the fish first, then in the bag before pulling the shaft!!
Boy did it take a while before my heart slowed and smiled finished!!!!!
Note the converted bodyboard that the fish is lying on....I made it following my experience and reading about spiderman and the helicopter!

what's up all? any of you guys spear South Cornwall? new to area, any help or buddies much appreciated.
Wesleyangley, you have already list a big area which is rich in good spearing. My best advice to you is google earth! It is much more satisfiying to put in the work yourself and hit the jackpot! Sure, sometimes you get a duff spot but, if you use a little common sense then more often than not it works out well for you. Two weeks ago i tried a new spot that i'd been watching for a couple of years. Seeing waves break during winter swells got me interested. It is my new favorite spot! Jackpot! Today i have done it again and hit the jackpot!
I was in two minds which reef to kayak out to today. Old faithful, or spot X, somewhere i had been thinking about for a while which is off the beaten track. As spearflap and myself did so well on our last adventure to a new spot we took a gamble. It does'nt get effected by the tides so is divable most times, so the fact we got out to it early (mid tide) was not a problem. Quite spooky due to the boat traffic so the noise underwater was a little intimidating. The reef is ok. Kind of bland and slightly boring looking but the bass were there so who cares! The viz was upto 8m+, it was like sheet glass, the sun was out and it was warm. It was possibly as perfect spearing conditions as you can get. Three dives in was bass number 1. After that it was a little frustrating for a while as the bass came from the wrong directions, or came at the end of a dive. Then another 2 bass in quick sucession. All bass were about 2-2.5lb. Perfect table bass. With 3 on the belt i decided to call it quits and watched spearflap for a while. After a slow start he came out with a nice bass and a pollock.
I had my camera with me and i managed to get some really good footage. A couple of different kayak mounts gave some new views. I will play around with the footage on my computer and post something soon. The cornwall thread has been looking a little quiet lately guys. The fish are still here in force so lets hear what you have been upto. It is always an inspiration to read the reports you all post.

Well I decided tonight was time to do another night dive (someone rightly said it's addictive) and I headed off to a sheltered south coast spot, the place I usually see my seal friend.... on the drive over as the sun was setting i was thinking.... "do i really want to bump into a seal in the nightime?" And sure enough when I arrived I saw his head bobbing around right where I was planning to dive.
I chickened out
And drove off to a less sheltered spot that I thought might be ok and was dismayed to see a bit more swell than I`d hoped rolling in. After some deliberation I though "sod it" im here im going in.
Things didnt start well, VERY murky lots of movement that started to make me feel a bit sick , that hasnt happened to me before must be a night thing.
I finally found a bit of Vis and some small Bass so pushed on up the coast into the dark. Finally saw a better bass in the gloom and started lining up but wasnt confident of the shot, but he moved straight in towards me along the bottom, I missed
And when the gun fired about 3 decent sized Bass shot passed me. I had a sinking feeling that that was my fish and I`d blown it.
Instead of getting out though I did a lap of the whole bay turning it into a long dive, lots of cool shoals of small bass and a new ray I`d never seen before (skate) cheered me up and as I was completing my final run following a small bass for fun I saw a big silver shape disappear behind a rock, I edged over worried about spooking it with the light (and forgetting to turn on my camera), usually when i lose sight of a good fish thats it , but this one did a U-Turn and I nailed it right in the back of the head. I knew it was my PB straight away, and upon returning home was stoked to see it was 8lb

Well done guys. Some nice Cornish fish there.
I used to find this time of year depressing with the darkening evenings curtailing after work dives. Now I can't wait for the shorter days to allow me to go night diving. Bring it on.

lol.......sick guys! I've been spending every hour god sends writing bloody assignments but it would appear i should have been getting in the sea. I second the removal of your 'newbie' tag Padaxes......anyone who catches an 8lb bass on a solo night time dive in adverse conditions is certainly not a newbie!
And gutshot's reefs come up trumps once more! Fortune favours the brave.

Decided on a new spot over on the south coast. Beautiful beach and loads of mullet to start which i left alone. Swam out to the point and started to see bass. Moved out to the reef edge and took two. Got pretty cold after that as it was getting dark (or felt like it). Tried spotting flatties on the way back but no joy. Vis was fantstic, easliy up to 10 further out. Water temp still feels nice but the cold wind chilled me pretty quick. Bloody nice to get in though.
