Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Its been a while since Ive posted but then I havent had much time to get in this year.
What a strange season so far with all this rain, Ive only managed to bag a few decent bass and pollock and I havent had the usual dover soles but hopefully thats about to change over the next few weeks as I'm going to be in the water alot more :)
Fingers crossed for some decent weather.

hi all i am planning to be in the falmouth area in the bank holiday weekend and would like to do some spearfishing if someone would like to team up that would be great!

Could not face the viz anymore!, so headed south for family camping, with the plan to spear at least once.

Fustrated by a severe pain above my left eye socket when ever I dived. The first day it was so painful even if I dipped my head down 1/2 ft it was unbearable. It started after my first dive which I stopped at 2m due to pain.

I tried some Nasal spray which helped when I next went in but the pain started again after about 1hr, but not as severe. Any ideas? It was bringing me to tears.

Despite the fustration I did manage my first trigger fish :). 2 1/2 lb. Damn they bite!!

That is a blocked sinus. Hot shower as hot as you can take it on your face for 20 minutes whilst deep breathing the steam and pinching and blowing out all the junk as the heat and steam loosen it all. Sudafed will help too!

Only my 2p worth buts it helps me. I get this a lot as I have a deviated septum and this is how I clear most often.

Hey All.. not posted for a while as to be honest the season had started with minimal takable fish seen on most North Coast dives, South Coast has been off the cards cos of our new baby Kai so its simply been a waiting game for the bigger fish to arrive!

I've dived quite a bit too.. added a good 30 seconds to my holds but still just oversized schoolies buzzing about... till this week.. I took the missus and the baby along with and jumped in at one of my favourite spots.. vis was good.. about 10m.. I had 2 fish on the stringer which were just size when this beauty snuck up behind me.. I had to turn the gun a full 180 degrees to line up on him and by the time I had (moving ridiulously slowly!) he was on me so had to shoot straight from the hip! So stoked, got a good holding shot through the gill plates and that was that.. did a few more dives and came accross a good size lobster so he was in the bag too. Good times.. and lovely weather to boot :)

Went again the next day and had a couple more nice fish :) Diving now done for the weekend.. off to Boardmasters! yeeeew! :friday

Nice fish. I got in yesterday at my usual spot to a slow start, plenty of schoolies but nothing of size. After about an hour in I was caught short so had to make my way to shore to perform the deed! I aimed at a spot of shingle between the rocks and was just about to drag myself out when I noticed a strange naked man sat cross legged meditating! how he got there I'll never now because there's no path and its in the middle of nowhere! Anyway I beat a hasty retreat and went to beach a bit further along. As I was about to sit on a rock to take my fins off I saw a flash and swirl of a fish. Quick as i could I sort of fell back and swung the gun through 180 and got the shot off. One 5lb bass on the stringer and one happy man. PB fish for me in 2ft of water.

Second dive of the year on Friday.........conditions allowed a dive at my favourite spot. Usually go by boat but took the cliff path instead. Had 2 good bass within 20 minutes and saw some much larger fish but the 300ft climb was a serious consideration. Swapped the smaller of the 2 with some Italians for a bottle of wine. Kept what was probably a 5lber.

Went in yesterday on south coast, Good vis with a couple of big Pollack kicking about. I cant seem to hit any of them though and my aim does not seem to be getting any better.

I managed to come back with a few scallies though, this one is a whoppa!

Wow, nice one.

If i found scollops like that I'd get sent out spearing several times a week rather than negotiating a pass.

Ha ha thanks guys!

Yeah i will phot the shell when i get home. I am up visiting the inlaws at the moment.

Unlucky i didnt get to eat it because we had to travel up country that evening. My spearing buddy took it and i think he gave it to his wife to negotiate further spearing passes Ha ha...

If anyone fancies company for future trips i am always game.

Perhaps i can get some pointers and spear that elusive fish.

If I was able to collect scallops like that I don't think I'd worry about the fish!

Off for 8 weeks work abroad missing the better size fish that are arriving. Gutted, payoff = new RA carbon on return

Managed to get in on monday. Quite alot of chop and stirred up particulant in the water but a productive dive with 3 bass nudging 3lb and my first lobster! Now here's my question, is there a voluntary size limit for lobster? I know the MSL is 87mm (mine was over this) but what size do people take?. Secondly how best to store them? After my session I had a further 3 hours on the beach with the family so I put the lobster in a shallow rockpool in a catch bag but when I came to leave it had very sadly expired. Totaly gutted. In hindsight the rockpool was partly fed by freshwater run-off and was also too shallow causing it to become too warm. Would it have been better to keep it wrapped in a damp towel in a cool box? Advice please!
Thanks, James.
