Cornwall 2012

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Sweet Chilli Bunny Burgers are my favourite, but I can rarely be bothered to butcher all the meat off to make them. They usually get slow cooked fro 24 hours, picked of meat and used in currys.

But hopefully Bass will be back soon to add an alternative.

Got in for first dive of the year at a sheltered n coast spot early yesterday eve. Quite a few mullet around, managed to take a good sized one first shot and was feeling good. Then proceeded to miss a load at close range, back to normality. No bass but it's not a good spot for bass anyway.Viz was moderate, not too cold but great in the sun.

Hey guys, I am in Cornwall, Newquay to be exact, for the next 2.5 months if anybody wants to get together for some outings of recreational freediving, spearfishing, or if you are looking for some casual mentorship. I have availability any time of the day, any day. Would be great to get in and see how the waters here compare to our west coast of Canada.

Cheers,

Tyler

Nice south coast shallow water dive, the vis was a bit milky but some mullet and bass around. Took a mullet home for tea.

Without giving too much away were you East/west middle of the county?
Looking to get in on friday morning around the St Austell area but not expecting much in the way of vis after this weeks east wind.

First dive of the year, plenty of flat fish about but nothing silver and fishy looking! Enjoyed the dive and vis was ok.

Got in this morning for a couple of hours before work. viz a bit patchy but a solid 3m up top and 4 below. No silver seen but the sea is definatly starting to wake up. Saw several shoals of small pollack and lots of wrasse action, far more life around than on the last two dives.

Anybody interested in a top-end winter surfing wetsuit, worn once, by me (before I realised it was too small and had to go out and buy another one, the very next day!)

You'll find it here if you are:

Got in on the south coast this morning, further down than usual. Good viz but no fish. Did see quite a few urchins which was a first. Anyone tried them? Is there a minimum size, as i haven't had much luck finding one?

Just got out from a lovely south coast night dive. Saw some great sea life, lovely clear vis and bagged a 40cm Gilthead Bream. Feeling good I let a few Mullet live to fight another day.

Saw a lovely big cuttlefish that put on a great show for me, then underneath it in the kelp i saw something move, though it was going to be the mother of all bass and my adrenaline was going, then it emerged from the weed, was a bloody great dogfish, must have been 3 feet long.

A nice cruise through the sea grass and a shoal of Sea Trout before getting out. After 2 hours I was pretty cold but stoked.

Nice catch, you can enter your bream into the specimen challenge?

Well jonny is in charge of it so I will get the details for mate.

Hi folks, may i just offer a reminder that this year in addition to the Fish of the Month competition and Fish of the Year comp', there is also the species [speccie] hunt happening over the year. The discussion is here:
http://forums.deeperblue.com/uk-ireland/94073-f-o-m-f-o-y-discussion-thread-2012-a-2.html
and the few additional rules are given on each FoM entry page [basically enter the speccie hunt as you would for the fom - simple eh!].

I now realise that not everyone was aware of the speccie hunt, which is hopefully going to add some extra fun to the years fishing - there's no prizes - but it will be interesting to see who brings in the greatest variety of fish...

good luck! :)
