It's a meet for UK members held in Guernsey not a members UK meet?

Well Guernsey is part of the UK & there has only ever been one oficial UK meet of this nature so far.
If someone was prepared to put in the ground work & organise one on the UK mainland, then there is no reason.
Would you like to help host one for 2014?

Fair enough - I was only wondering.

On a separate note, I'm pretty sure Guernsey is not part of the UK though..!

This is a little complicated but technically no we are not part of the UK.
Guernsey, has its own legislature, we are a Crown Dependency of the United Kingdom and we rely on the UK for its foreign relations, defense and issuing passports but unlike the UK we are not part of the European Union, though we do have Queen Elizabeth as our Queen.

If you come here from England, there is no passport or immigration control because we all have British passports too but you DO go through customs because it isn't part of the European Union.
Clear now :hmm !!
Of course my postal address ends ... Channel islands, UK.

rofl - that is crazy - I knew it was a dubious territory but I didn't know it was that complicated! I can't believe that you've managed to escape the clutches of the EU - good work indeed!

lol I think its even more complicated than that mart; Guernsey passports are for "British Islands" whereas British passports are "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". a Guernsey passport would have "holder is not entitled to benefit from European Community Provisions relating to employment or establishment" as an endorsement.
Obviously no one is doing any spearfishing at the moment lol :)

Bros, i would be keen to see a UK mainland meet too, but it needs someone over there local to organise it... I bet there's some good spearing down cape Cornwall, or chair ladder way... [remembering climbing routes of days gone bye]...

Quite right jonny, I could of gone into far more detail as our passport system is extremely complex, especially if one of your parents was born in Guernsey & the other elsewhere!

There are lots of differing criteria that revolve around organising a 20-30 plus person event but the most important - is the will to so & the pleasure to do so.

Our beautiful island has been over fished & over populated, however we can still offer a great weekend experience with a good social & gastronomic atmosphere for any attending = the more the merrier :friday
I will probably continue the Guernsey hospitality for many year to come (god willing) but a mid summer meet will never be the ultimate spearfishing Uk experience ... more a social fun occasion with the possibility of good fishing!

As we have a quite a few coming over here for more than just a weekend, would it be worth trying some 'off island' venues next year on one of the weekdays? Plenty of boats between us. Would also give a day out for the WAGs.

On the passport front, just to complicate things, my wife was born in Eire, with pure Dublin ancestry, yet has a Guernsey passport which is endorsed with "holder is not entitled to benefit from European Community Provisions relating to employment or establishment"

Exactly my plan. I'm hoping to fullfill promise and take up the offer of a trip to t'other island too! (shhh!.....it might be called J*#@&y! ;-) !!)

I would highly recommend a day trip to Sark but if you can get a day & a night there then you will be blown away with its tranquility & beauty.
I just cant harp on enough about my favourite place in the World but it is certainly not everybody's cup of tea!

Is spearing allowed around Sark Mart? I think you said it wasn't permitted around Herm which is a shame as it looked quite inviting

that looks cool!

It is amazing. Only done it once with snorkelling gear and can't wait to go back through the caves.

For such a great site, there is surprisingly little youtube coverage and not even a lot of photos.
