sorry guys for my last post i don't want to make you upset.ok went to dorset first i tried ringstead no wind but a big waves no wis at all .then tried castletown near scuba diving shop wis was better around 2m see some wreks but no bass or other whit fish.then afther that tried Inn Ferry Bridge i think it calls like that there was not so deep around 2m wis around 2m no fish seen.after that tried Newton's Road chapelhay wis was very bad less then half meter. no luck this time.lol
Fishing seems to be better July-November, although it has been remarkably warm this winter. Sounds like you have already identified several locations. 2m visibility is fine for spearing round Dorset but 0.5m is hopeless (although I did once manage a few scallops under such conditions).

Be careful around Ferry Bridge/the Fleet. Ferry Bridge is/was a well known angling mark but I seem to recall reading recently that the Fleet and/or Ferry Bridge is legally classified as a Bass Nursery for at least part of the year( - can any of the locals confirm/refute?). I guess other fish and shellfish are fair game. This time of year, might be worth looking for flat fish & shell fish.

nipped down for a quick one this morning, not to bad seen as we've had all this wind, water temp still up there at 11 degs on my d3 and a whopping 13 degs on fluffchuckers watch. Vis was ok in close but a little messy out a bit. Finished up with a few bits to go towards the starter on christmas day.:)

Went in at a few spots in Portland Harbour in the frosty early hours of this morning (6am) to get in an hour of flattie hunting before the sun came up.
Vis was around 2-4m.

Hunted around for a couple of hours but didn't see a single fish. No, that's a lie, I did see a couple of tiny wrasse and one very lonely looking small pollack. But that was all.

I was so warm when I got out (and still only with my 5mm suit - when is it going to get cold?...) that I got changed before getting into the car rather than driving home to get changed in the shower. Bl**dy hell that was cold. Brrrr :hungover Beautiful view though.

6am this morning, standing outside my house in my wetsuit, in the dark, scraping the thick ice off my car windows, I had to think to myself "what the hell am I doing?".

Got down to Portland around 7.30am and went for a swim with Spearolee in a couple of spots, but could only find vis that was just past the end of the spear at best. No fishies succumbed. Ah well, lesson learned - don't bother going in the sea when there have been gale-force winds for the past week or two. :head

God your keen Tom you have far to much time on your hands???LoL You should be wrapping presies up! It has been rough the last week down your way. I was on the channel going from Southampton to zeebrugger in a force 8/9 storm who said an 83k ton ship was stable my arse we couldn't even get in and circled for days only to return wed night into another gale force storm fun fun fun.I was so happy to be on dry land!

We had a Christmas swim today, well 3 of us did and we had 2 more for shore support.
Great to see you Ade, Ben sorry mate but we ate your Christmas pressie this evening and John I’m about to enjoy yours, so nothing made it to next week, well nothing except the other half of the Christmas dinner starter that I managed to find out in the blue.
The divers, Glowworm, Flyflicker and myself, the shore support, Fearthespear and Busterlung.

Nice one with the hot chocolate and cake after gents and as I said twas a pleasure.:):):)

Ben, Ade if you get time could you put up a few of the picts or mail me with whatever you've got, cheers gents.

Well after that last trip with Tom at the weekend I'm a little disheartened, so have decided to fiddle with my set up instead. One thing I have done is to tie loops at 1 meter intervals along my float line and added a piece of yellow insulation tape at every 5 meters (tip from nobby).

Wanted to have a go at my kayak too; does anyone here have any useful tips on a kayak set up for spearos???? mines a 2+1 person SOT (2 adults + 1 child sit on top).

Also I'm after an inflatable tender for next season; anyone got one for sale?

Nobby/Tom: Xmas eve sound like a plan!!!!

As for the fish: well I have 1 3lb mullet, 2 flounder and a mystery fillet of something... that I'm scared to eat left in freezer.
Looking forward to getting my jumbo Xmas bass!

Hey Lee.

Heres my setup. I keep it as simple as possible. I have a mesh bag where I store the mask, snorkel, gloves etc when Im launching the yak just in case I capsize. I also strap the weight belt down as its the first thing overboard when you tip :head

Photo0112.jpg

I use a very light anchor setup, no chain just 15 meters of line and a small anchor. I also use a mermaid line for when Im drifting.

Photo0114.jpg

Theres a dry bag in the box with a VHF, Mobile, Food and GPS. I dont have a fish finder anymore ( its on the boat) instead I use the GPS to mark a reef ( works fine for me)

Ive recently changed to a Coolerbox on the back which works well its just a pain in the arse to put fish in with the strap going over it
