I seem to do my best breath hold on the sofa!
I have that problem, 3 minutes plus static on the sofa, struggle with 39 seconds in the sea, why? Been pool training and can do a length and a third underwater in 30 seconds with no fins and train co2 and o2 tables once a week. Any pointers to help me improve anyone?

I reckon it's to do with how comfortable you're feeling. I notice that on sunny days with good viz (if I can remember such days!) I can breath hold much longer than choppy low viz days...the only difference being how relaxed/confident I feel.

By much longer I mean about a minute if I'm lucky! ;)

I agree. I find that pressure is a factor also. The deeper i go the more pressure and end up using valueable air on gettin the squeeze from my mask. I hav a low prifile mask but had sinus problems so i feel pressure real pain in the ass . Sinex just b4 a dive and decongestant pills work a treat. But my breathold depper than 12m is reduced dramaticly due to pressure. My pb breathold in the pool at 3.5m is 4min 30 sec pb distance with no fins is 4lengths of a pool but get in the sea and im looking at 2min 30 sec at best. Try not to push it in the sea for obv reasons but also surface time i need to get bk up to that breathold again is not worth the push. Bigger breatholds on boat dives. Sure dives prob do a min -1min 30secs max so can dive more often. I find best breathold training for me is pick a feald with no 1 in get to hand held markers. Hold breath walk then drop marker wen need to take a breath. Hav a rest then do the same. U will b supprised how much of an improvement u make. Dog walkers look at u like your nuts mind. Ha ha

5 0c water and two wet suites doesn't help its quite restrictive plus weight belt first few dives of season getting back in to it .with a on coming flue didn't help ,its only early yet .

Think I wil do a freedive course and while I am not massively overweight losing a stone would help. I find clear water makes me more relaxed as well. It doesnt hlep I live an hour and a half from the sea so dont get in as much as I like. Still a week in Cornwall and a week in Egypt this year should help, and I still manage to shoot some fish each year.

And what's all this talk about breath holding????

Why would anyone do that?

I just lay on the surface and wait for my buddies to scare the fish up to me!

Flatfish are a real pain; so I've put 8m of shooting line on my pumpgun, now I can reach the buggers from the surface.

Ok.....I got bored and grabbed myself a 3-4lb mullet last night.

Vis in harbour was 2 meters looked loads better from shore.

Spotted a shoal of about 10-12 good size mullet...missed a goid 5-6lb donkey, then found this baby one if 3-4lb hid in a cave; so I just had to nail him in the head.

At least that will feed us all tonight!!
