looks like it's still very poor :( shame, yesterday I was planning on a big spend and furnishing myself with more new Picasso gear....but at this rate I'm gunna spend the cash on golf clubs instead. :(

I am looking to buy a new wetsuit this season. I am currently using an Oceano made to measure suit that has been repaired quite a few times, but which suit does everyone recommend.

I have always had long john bottoms not the high waist ones. Are they any good?

I like it as you've really got 14mm on your chest im pretty slim so it keeps me warm , you do need a bit more lead to get down but its really warm .ive been out in it when air temp was -3 and water felt the same and I was out for about 3 hours , face was numb tho .!

yo

im pretty new to spearfishing really, anyone go down warbarrow bay much? I used to spearfish at man o war bay years ago which was a awesome spot but its totally destroyed for vis these days after cliff fall i think.

trying to find some new spots, might try portland sometime soon.

Is there any magical way that i can use to predict the vis at places? Im not really to sure what to look out for on magicseaweed ( apart from the usual wind and pressure )

i guess the tides make a big difference too.

I wouldn't bother with warbarrow ......twice now I've dived it and both time the resident mako shark has given my buddy and I a scare; he's very territorial abd a big ol boy at around 9-10ft.
as for vis...lyme bay has a cam, so does swanage, chesil and weymouth. Big spring tides often hamper the vis, especially on the ebbing tide. the western end of chesil is particularly vulnerable to dragging tides due to the clay and sand mix. Ringstead usualy clears up after 5-7 days of wind from the North quadrant and neap tides. weymouth bay has shelter in SW gales, so does portland harbour and swanage. be aware that swanage is full of funny buggers that blow bubbles and prohibit you from 50m of the pier, this is also true for the outer arms of portland harbour and the docks area. Kimmeridge bay is a voluntary marine reserve and thus the tree huggers will shive your spear up your bum if you attempt to spearfish here.
tbh the most reliable place for vis is portland harbour, but it realy is crap.

wows really a resident mako at warbarrow!?

hmm trying to think of a place to go to tomorrow, normally go to winspit ( worth matravers ), really like it there.

as for kimmeridge i wouldn't fish there at all. My brother used to work for environment agency and he said that its super bad pollution there.

I am looking to buy a new wetsuit this season. I am currently using an Oceano made to measure suit that has been repaired quite a few times, but which suit does everyone recommend.

I have a 5mm suit and a 7mm suit. I have low body fat and feel the cold when the water temps drop. The 5mm was worn during the summer until early November last year, 7mm during the colder water temp months.

The 5mm is an Omer Blackmoon (same as Camu 3D) - would I recommend it? Yes. Mine has the high waist trousers and compared to my 7mm which has long johns, a small amount of water does up go up the back at times.

However, I now use a thin neoprene undervest (Mares) when wearing the high waist trousers - it stops any water from getting down my back. When walking to a venue, to avoid overheating, I can wear the trousers and undervest and put the top on when I am at the get in point. Also, I don't like pissing in a wetsuit and the high waist trousers mean I can go onshore and do one easily.

My 7mm Mares instinct is a great suit but it's easy to overheat in it when out of the water and the long john trousers means it's more restrictive.

I would have thought that most of the Italian dedicated spearfishing wetsuits would be suitable as long as the fit is ok.

yer ive been down there loads of times, just never to dive.

i got me OS maps out trying to find a place to fish lol

redcliffe point looks good, anyone been there??

im nearly sure vis will be crap everywhere lol, but i just like the swim if its bad, get to practice some breath hold if nothing else lol

You may get lucky with the vis if you keep trying. Here at Southbourne there maybe times during the day when there are two distinct bands of colour to the water - murky brown close inshore near the groynes up to the second/outer sand bar and darker green further out (50m+ where the vis may be better). I can only make out these different colours when standing up on the cliff. I missed an excellent visibility window the other week.. it looked great in the morning but during the afternoon the wind picked up and it was rubbish again.

I also need to get myself ready for the coming season, not just for the diving but also for the walking...have well over 20kg of gear to take to a mark.
