Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
If the vids are emailable send them to me (jaketheshed@hotmail.com) and I'll stick them on some webspace (probably ADM's!) and post the links to them.
Easy, there's only about 9GB of space left...

Marco caught a couple of cracking bass on Monday, one was over 8lb but he was more eager to tell me about an unusual experience. He was at one time surrounded by trigger fish, 25 in fact, he counted them!
Are trigger fish the ones related to piranhas?!:D 8lb -- nice. Are the big fish you guys get usually close range or distant shots? (Eric in Sussex seems to get some whoppers in really murky conditions).

Good to hear the mullet discussion, as I have one in the freezer at the moment. I weighed it with other fish -- I reckon its contribution was about 1.5lb, pos. a little less. I thought it a bit small, as I saw a much bigger mullet in a shoal a minute or two earlier, so I didn't measure it (yet). But I since noticed the BSA record for GG was only (I think) something like 2lb & a bit -- so by that measure, it would be decent fish. Recipe suggestions?

Very quiet around here!
Marco doesn't seem put off or partially handicapped by the weather!!
He found these two beauties in the north in 1mtr vis. He shot them on espeto by watching the surface for silhouettes.

Any idea what the bigger one weighed? It looks a belter. Ask him where he got the hat with the fish on it too please.

The man must be a fish magnet! Nice ones Marco!

I was back to work this week after about 10 days off, during which I managed to go in most days at various spots. Results? 2 mullet, one of which wriggled off.:vangry Had shots at about half a dozen bass, and 2 very big mullet - not sure how I missed those.

So is the great Golden Grey debate over? Perhaps the only way is to taste? I still reckon you need to find the GG spot!:)

Rather him than me, takes something special to think them sort of conditions are fishable and then go prove it!

I had a play around on Ed's kayak in Grande Havre this evening, thanks mate, think I may have to get me one of them!

Well done Marco!

I've just had 10 days off and managed to get in most days, at various spots. The result? 2 mullet. About half a dozen bass shot at and missed, and 2 big mullet also missed. Is it just me or were the fish just not around?

Has the great Golden Grey debate been decided yet? I think you need to find the GG spot myself!:D

That is interesting maggers, do you intend to fish & dive from it or just cruise?
Like I said on the other forum - the Southampton boat show would be a good place to view loads of different designs.

I came across this thread while browsing for something else which may be of interest:
http://forums.deeperblue.net/hunting-equipment/65152-rigging-sit-kayak-spearfishing-7.html

...but no doubt you've already seen it.

This weekend looks pretty blown out - anybody tried going in anywhere?

( p.s. any thoughts on how to best tie nylon line on to a stringer - see my post at http://forums.deeperblue.net/beginner-hunting/71653-fish-stringer-bad-loss-4.html#post660571

I'm not a boaty persons, so knots and stuff aren't my strong point! Martin or Dave perhaps you have 5 mins to spare this weekend - Martin I still need to give you back your mask - sorry!)

That and 3000 other web pages on the subject over the last week Col!

Fish, Dive, Cruise, Drug Run, etc etc yeh! Gonna cost me though because I want it all rigged up, fish finder and everything.

I built a 17' canoe once, mahogany veneered & a sail rig as well.
Col I don't undestand what you want?

Hi

Just the best way to tie the spike on to the line really.

I'll give you a call tomorrow

Cheers

Mine is crimped with very heavy nylon in a loop using a double crimp. Seems to work, not that it has had much practice.

Col Andy is right just use mono. I have some at home but I am out til later this afternoon.

17 foot mahogany veneered? That must have weighed a bit Mart? Got any pictures? I'm thinking of using a kite to tow me around :)

My stringer is hollow so I thread the line through the a hole in the side out out of its length then tie a knot in the line which pulls back inside and job done, no exposed knots or crimps, and I prefer a braided line myself, hate thick mono!

Thanks Andy and Martin. Andy, did you mean mono or nylon line?

Attached is what I have been using, and seemed to work until my recent problem. I think OMD suggested this sort of line, rather than mono - I don't know if it's because it tangles less, or doesn't cut through the fish so much?

I can see that mono would be safer to rig, with crimps, and this is what they use on the ready made ones. I've attached one I bought I think made by omer. ( note the so-called stainless is starting to rust already, although only having been in the sea once!)

I'm sure each has its merits, but all I really wanted was advice on doing the knots, if you use nylon line. If you can get big enough crimps, even better!

p.s. just seen your post Magpie -thanks, interesting concept. Presumably the spike isn't stainless though, so what is it made of to last with exposure to sea water?

Maggers I built the canoe for a customer, it came as a kit, full size paper templates glue etc. The main body was made from 3mm ply the mahogany was a top veneer. Total weight competed without mast & sail 19kg.

Ah right, thats lighter than I thought it would be, bet it looked great with that dark veneer.
