I don't know if they record "average" wind speeeds over either months or years but I would say we have had higher wind speeds this year than normal. Through Jan, Feb, March etc we didn't have more extreme winds but we had consistent force 5's day after day after day. It was unrelenting. I think someone with access should look at this 'cause that's my best guess. It was the combined efforf of high (not gale) winds over a frolonged period with no respite that eventually raised the silt into suspension, spread it around and has kept it there. personally i can't see it clearing other than over months or probably years. The silt is there now and every little bit of wind or swell stirs it up. It'll clear in calm spells but then just reappear. Bound to - where's it got to go?

Reckon that is a good explanation - was thinking about it too (funnily enough) is there any mechanical type action that reintegrates silt with sand ? Any worm action that you might get like on land ?
I have no idea how it will clear...

I seem to recall somewhere on Guernsey there is a nice clay pigeon shooting ground, anybody know anything about it?

Flew back yesterday from the UK, the east coast looked OK but south coast was a bit brown.

Our sailing trip has been cancelled so off to St Malo tomorrow on the ferry, heading towards La Rochelle after that, suits, guns etc packed . Anyone know of any good spots?

Going to give this geocaching lark a go as well while we are roaming about. Interesting one here: GC14ZTB - A Traditional Cache in France called Le Paou created by df45 we're going to be around that way in a few weeks so may give it a go.

Sorry I missed you last weekend. We had a bad sart and only managed an 8th.

Have dived south brittany a few times but not as far down as la rochelle. Have dived a fair bit between lorient and concarneau. pretty similar diving to here and similar species, hoping to get out that way at the end of the month.

Just been searching for any info about spearing in that area and it turns out you need a license and insurance. Not sure how seriously it's taken though..

I have never bothered with the licence/insurance, I got as far as asking the campsite owner where we stay and he shrugged his shoulders in true gallic fashion.

I have been in touch with Jersey fisheries re this EU ban. They replied that they have already been asked to comment on the proposal so will ask for clarification of the amendment and its affect on recreational spearfishing.

So I expect that Guernsey have also been asked to comment by the powers that be, so I suggest you point out the effect of this amendment so we can hopefully gain their support.

Hi guys, I'm Rick from the Dorset forum. I'm planning a trip to Guernsey this summer - thought it'd be a great safe chilled place for the wife and baby and also might be a chance for a few sneaky spearo trips!! Anyway, we're looking to rent a cottage / flat for a week but everywhere seems to be booked up.

I don't suppose you guys have any insider info / know anyone renting for the week of 9th August do you? We've prob left it too late, but thought it was worth a shot!

I don't want to appear too depressing but the facts are that in 40 years of diving I've never seen anything like the present situation. We have had next to no vis for six months and no one knows why. It might clear soon (I hope so) but it's never happened before and we just don't know. Guernsey has had probably the best vis in the UK (usually 20 to 30 foot) and offered great conditions for spearing but not this year.

There has been some improvement over the last month in the overall situation which is effecting all the Channel Islands and partway across to France but inshore it's still undiveable.

We welcome visitors from across the pond and normally we would promise you some good company and some good fishing. At the moment you can get the good company but no guarantee of the fishing. Sorry.

Awesome! Great photos as well! We've managed to find a place and my wife was pretty pleased there's no viz as it means she might get to see me a bit, so looks like it's all going ahead!

Worst case scenario - flat AND no viz! lol

Amazing pics Jonny. Portinfer is one place I didn't look for fishable viz!! At least it was surfable there, Capelle and Vazon were blown out and very choppy.

Good to see you're gonna make it Rick. I'm sure that you, your wife and little Ella will have a great time. Just confirm those dates for us and I'm sure someone will want to meet up and show you all a good time. I say someone as I'm off island on holiday from 21st July to 5th August. If your here when I'm back I'll definitely see you right. The DB Guernsey fish-in with all the visiting reprobates from the UK starts mid August so you might overlap that?
