Holiday Guernsey 2007

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
OK I am all booked up - in on evening 26th July and leaving end of 30th July. Roll-on summer!!

You're all staying down on my local ground, bout 5 minutes walk from mine. Take note of the views when you come as the ones from those hotels may well be a thing of the past if the profiteers get their way.

Good spearing and fishing in the bay IMO but there are obviously other places.

Hey Donkeys

Just found this and it sounds like fun. I could be up for a weekend up north assuming those from your mother island are invited!

Caw chapin, them bass better watch out! There's an army coming after them! Maybe we could organise some sort of prize for best fish of the weekend or something.

hello any of you Guernsey boys know of a 'seafood weekend' in march? my girlfriend said something about it the other day!

Hi again guys, i know this maybe cutting it fine but i have now got a confirmation that those dates are free for me and my buddy. We are desperate to get over :D.

I am gunna try and get it all sorted tomorrow, but i need some help from you all if possible. Which area of Gurnsey should I be aiming for? Plus is it easy enough to get to it from the airport? Costs of flights have been covered and reserved. However i need to sort accomodation in the next 2 days or so while i have some time on my hands. I read that your all in the North of Gurnsey, but which hotels/ B&Bs should i look at?

We are in a serious dilemma over transport though. We can drive perfectly well... however all of the car hire companys have rejected our applications due to a minimum age of drivers being 21 :(. No real biggy to be honest, we can use the money we would have spent on the car, on a taxi to the accomodation from the airport and back again. However we will need to stay in a place that is reasonably close to some decent dive spots if we are going to be car-less. Obviously as i havent visited the island since i was a toddler, i have no idea about where things are in Gurnsey , so i really need some help from you locals regarding cheap accomodation near dive spots and not forgetting the evening socialisation between the Deeperblue crew :D.

Cheers guys... any help is really welcomed... it will be great to see you all.

Huw.

Just found a place called 'The Yacht Inn' Any comments?? Its not very far away from Foresters or St Georges. Its right opposite Havelet bay. Their site says that they are angler friendly, and transport can be aranged through them... not too expensive either. Do you reckon it will suit our needs?

I will give them a ring tomorrow at somepoint i guess... unless anyone has any suggestions or comments. I have a clay shoot in the morning, but should be free late afternoon, so i will check back here before ringing around, any comments good or bad would be helpful.

Thanks guys,

Huw

Huw, I think the Yacht would be fine, smack bang in the middle of town & alongside the bus terminus. The yacht is a popular pub.

Noooo... the yacht is fully booked. The only thing close is one double room left in the Foresters!!! Looks like it will have to do! Cant get hold of Pete right now, so i may have to do it in the Morning. I dont suppose we can have an up to date list of everyone who will be attendig the trip like the one on page 4 could we? ... i have read the whole thread over a few times and still cant figure out who is actually coming and who isnt :duh.

Cheers,
Huw.

Ahh ok, thanks for the link. At least now i know roughly where to head for anyway. I shall hold off for a few days then :D.

Cheers,
Huw

OK guys, it would seem 'choice' accommodation is going fast! I would suggest anyone not booked up would best think about it soon.

I will post a bit more about possible plans for those coming over soon.
b lucky Mart.

Just want to bump this along.
Reading though the pages I have to agree with Huw, it is not easy to work out exactly who is coming?
I would seriously recommend that any one not booked up should make the effort soon! I am prepared to help find rooms if necessary but you guys need to get flights, ferries booked! Flights will be cheaper if booked now although the ferry might be cheaper nearer the date if they have space?
I am sure we can help with weights if any one flying can just bring thier belts. For any one comming from further afield (spaghetti) I am sure we can help with guns as well (I have 4 up to date guns)
Magpie said something about friendly competition for the biggest fish, not a bad idea but I thought about the biggest (or total weight of) lobster might be less of a consern for our locale fish stocks! Flatfish would also be a challenge but I think we might have to forget about catching certain species for the sake of competition ie wrasse or mullet. Of course Bass will be the most sort after & I dont think any Bass flesh will go to wast!

Mart, Mullet flesh is my absolute favourite sooner have it than Bass.
As for a competition I’ve never really been in it for any competitions but what the hell I’ll have a go.
Oh and if anybody needs a gun I’ll have a spare one.

Quite agree - you need to book flights while they're still cheap - e.g. Flybe is around £70-80 from Gatwick around that weekend see flybe.com ( don't know if that link will work through to the booking). They also go to Southampton / Birmingham etc.

As for the competition, perhaps allow wrasse and mullet if they're close to the record !!:D Don't think there will be any 300 pounders around though ( see Guernsey 2007)

I didn't see it as a formal competition, just kind of a recognition of what we all agreed was the best fish of trip. Wouldn't even have to be the biggest, if there was a good story behind it or something.

I don't think it would be anymore of a threat to stocks than a big group of spearo's coming over would normally bem, especially as its a specimen hunt, not a biggest bag type thing.

Best fish of the trip sounds great, nice one sir.

Well actually I am not in the least interested in competition! Just thought a friendly wager would be fun? As for mullet & wrasse, that is fine as long as we dont kill anything we wont eat. I dont fancy being responsible for unnecessary killing of Innocent fish!! However I can cook, smoke or freeze any fish we cant scoff on the day :)
