Need help. Building a gun.

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Personally I would just use some glue powder & some pigment because as I say graphite is very difficult to sand down.
Even Wet N dry paper with hardly touch it!

Trigger mech slot and shaft guide cut. Cut the shaft guide larger and filled with epoxy resin and will then recut to exact size. After pouring the epoxy resin I used a blowlamp on the epoxy resin to remove bubbles.

No idea yet just poured it in. Will let it dry for a couple of days and reroute to size. Will post more pics when I make more progress, quite a hectic month so progress will be slower than it already is

Could someone pls help me clear something up? How exactly do you guys measure band length on a gun?

Ive seen so many different ways and not sure which one is actually the right way?

Is is measure from last sharkfin to rollers and then divide by 2? Example if the measurement is 90cm, would the bands be 45cm each?

I was thinking of cutting the bands to 300% and then having tabs at the bottom for different percentage stretch example 320, 340, 360%. Would that make any difference or is the pre tension at the bottom have no effect on the strength of the shot?

Im completely lost here, and would be thankful if someone could clear this up. Not sure if the diagram I drew is right or if the tabs of pre stretch make any difference

What are the dimensions on the bottom for where you want your last pin to be located?

And what is the max stretch you want? %360?

I havent made any measurement yet, not before I know how to get the bands yet, hence why im making strength tabs. Ill be making tabs from 300 to at least 360, and 380 if there is enough room.

I don't understand.

If you have x amount of room you want to use all that room to to make it easier to achieve your % stretch.

You've got x room if you need to get %380 and you want %400 you need to shorten bands.

I thought about this for freakin ages lol. What space have you got to work with i can show you some calculations and it will make sense how I got there.

Yeah I understand what you mean, but not sure if there is a certain must do rule for rollergun band length.

I'm not sure but I can't see it being any different from a normal gun other than ideally you don't want the band wishbone and knots to be hard up against the roller. Also one would assume that you'd want to de tension the bands when not in use to get more life out of them.

Yes, ill be making tabs from 300% to example 380%, and another tab closer to the roller so I can load easier and remove the bands from the stretch state when not in use.

I use less stretch on my roller with 16mm rubbers.

I installed 3 anchor points at the underside of the gun with 100mm between them. At the "non loaded" setting the (wishbone on the muzzle and anchor point nearest the muzzle) the pretension is a few %.
I made the band length so my wanted maximum stretch is reached at full power (with the wishbones closest to the trigger on both sides).

The most efficient stretch ratio for 16mm bands are between 340 and 380%. Start making them around 300%. So you measure the full distance for maximum power and subtract 60-70mm for the two wishbones and ad 20-30mm space for the constrictor knots in both ends. Then divide the length by 3.
That's a good starting point. You can always shorten them.

Great Jegwan, thanks then. Alemanni pretty much said the same, measure from middle of the roller to the tab, multiply by 2 and then divide by 3/3.2/3.4 etc

Final measurements before cutting the gun to size, also got the rollers placement (finally). Measurements for the tabs at the bottom also done. Should be done all this week, all that'll be left is sanding it down.

Ive measured from last tab to the bottom of the gun where I'll place the bands (310%). The length is 127cm. So would 42cm (300%) be the right length for the bands?

I have tabs for 250% (easy load), 310% (300% band and 10% extra for pre stretch), 320/340/360 & 380%.

127cm.. are you sure? Is that the full length from between the most distant anchor point and the sharkfin closest to the trigger (measuring all the way around the rollers)?

Yes. My gun is short. Its an 87cm rollergun. I made it that short to use in winter
