ok it was me, and then the guy that started talking to you when you shot the ray.. was my buddy andy. hes not on the forum (not yet anyway)..

then there was alvin (xahx on here), he had the riffe gun and a full wetsuit and hood on.. and his buddy sean who was pictured with that corbina, whom i dont think is on the forum either. i think they both had full suits and hoods on actually, i dont remember.

not a bad day though. :t

to add to it its about $60 for the round trip on the ferry. and then about a 30 min walk to the dive spots.

I'll probably dive Crystal Cove or Corona Del mar, more likely Crystal Cove as Corona Del mar hasnt been producing much lately. I'm game for Cat. or just about anywhere from DP to PV if we have a group goin out. If anyone wants to do some drops on weekday afternoons drop me an e-mail by lunch time and I'll get back to you before i get off at 4:30, I work IT so I'm on the computer most of the day.

I've got family on Catalina, if we have a small group (5 or less) I may be able to get us a ride from avalon to other spots on the island, or at least borrow a few kayak's.

yesterday was awesome! alot of fun excepti experienced major vertigo when i got home (really dizzy)... must have not pressurized properly or over exerted myself.... hope i feel better soon, still kinda dizzy today....

any advice?

I HAVE NEVER BEEN DIZZY AFTER I GET BACK FROM DIVING BUT IT MIGHT BE BECAUSE YOU ARE DEHYDRATED. THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS OF DEHYDRATION. I KNOW THAT I GET DIZZY WHEN I HAVENT HAD ENOUGH FLUIDS. IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN DRINKING WATER ENOUGH THEN I HAVE NO CLUE WHATS WRONG SORRY.

are you allowed to hunt at crystal cove though since its a state park?

From what I gather from the regs is your allowed to take any legal finfish and lobsters when in season, just no other sealife ie mollusks, shellfish, shells, sea plants etc. I'll check them one more time but I've hunted down there and recieved a "nice fish" from the ranger, and that was that.

"Lifeguards have the authority to ask you to move if you are spearfishing in an area where there are a lot of swimmers. Spearfishing can be considered a hazardous activity.

Crystal Cove State Park (949-494-3539) asks that spear fishermen adhere to all Fish and Game laws - which they strictly enforce. They also ask that you take time to familiarize yourself with the size, take and season limitations for any specific species you are pursuing. Please also exercise the good conservation ethic that all of us spear fisherman adhere to. Take only what you need. If size is in question, before pulling the trigger, it's better to let it swim away.
The following fish may be caught in the Laguna Beach Marine Protected Area: rockfish, greenling, lingcod, cabezon, yellowtail, mackerel, bluefin tuna, kelp bass, spotted sand bass, barred sand bass, sargo, croaker, queenfish, corbina, white seabass, opaleye, halfmoon, surfperch, blacksmith, barracuda, sheephead, bonito, halibut, sole, turbot and sanddab. All other marine life species are prohibited and nothing can be taken from the intertidal area."

well said about Crystal Cove.....it is better to walk away unless you are certain that you are within regs. When in doubt, bone the f**k out. Play it safe, let the place grow untouched for others to enjoy....it is only fair. To spear to the point where there is no respect for others is selfish in my opinion. Spear somwhere else. Be humane in your inhumanity is the best logic.

whazzup aesthetics? what happened to you this weekend? Best rule of thumb is to let me or beam know by Friday if you are gonna make it or not. I don't dive with people that take honor in taking bat rays however. There is no honor in such plumfoolery. In fact, it is idiotic to shoot something to just shoot it. They are not meant for eating, they are harmless and contribute to the complexity of the ocean so simply put....why? You tell your buddy MateszH20 that him and his little girlfriend that likes to shoot bats is banned from our group. I have lost a good amount of respect for MateszH20 for even applauding, not to mention, mentioning such a feat. If we hook up Mates....leave the numbnutz at home. They are not only irresponsible, but dangerous to themselves and those diving around them. Aesthetic.....PM me and I'll give you our contact info. Please tell me you weren't part of the bat ray incident i've been hearing about. I would be greatly dissapointed in you as well.

You missed a good trip to PV with me and beam. Caught a crapload of fish, but the only drawback is that my feet are embedded with dozens of urchin spines and my ankles have been swelling over the past few days.

Aesthetic,

Looks like a nice corbina, and sounds like you had a nice dive.

one question though, when did Bat Rays become a target species? I know that in Mexico they will serve up sting rays as a poor mans scallop. I guess to each there own but I prefer to admire bat rays for there gracefull flight than to target them. Its a big ocean out there with plenty of game fish. But i guess thats just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions. I second the thoughts of Kanak, I guess that is why we dive together though.

The creatures that we choose to use as a food source should be treated with as much respect a possable and not stabbed multable times with a knife like a pin coushion and disrespected. I guess if that is all someone has the skill to hunt they should change sports, try bowling.

good luck

joel
