Sharm Individual World Champs - Info & Updates

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
On a brighter note, peole say there was a big swordfish (or some such similar fish) swimming close to the competition area today. Damn I would've liked to have seen that.
Ha! That explains the cut rope! :)

Man, thats a white tip reef shark!:martial
Looks like your diving with handicaps! 1 point added for losing a hand near the plate due to shark problems......
Or you might come up now and say that someone stole your tag, i'd believe it!

Link to youtube to prevent your server getting clogged......

Wow Mullins going strong... maybe to strong? I wos under impression that will be reverse, Herb and Dave... Coste "only" 99m?

Both the Williams are 'holding back' with dives of 70 and 75, so they might announce big/deep for the last day. We know Mullins can do 2 BIG performances in a row, and Herbert ain't exactly weak sauce, so it looks like the CNF competition could be even more exciting.

99 meters?! i guess i'm a little newer to freediving than i thought; i didn't even know it was possible to go that deep!

Actually that's an oceanic white tip, can be extremely aggressive and dangerous! bloody hell!

see this photo, its the same animal, longer fins than a white tip reef shark and fatter body.

Here's a snapshot of the list:

The top times will change once more, but the order and APs should be final.

We were told in the event committee that the ropes didn't actually break, but the they had been rubbing agaist the edge of the platform and clearly worn out so they wanted to replace them. I'm all for that desicion :)

Unfortunately I cannot update the results tomorrow because the schedule is so tight. I'll be either coaching or preparing my self most of the day. The organizer does not have the resources to do it, so well just have to go old fashioned (unless someone on location with free time and a computer steps up?)

SanSan, I was told there was a swordfish in addition to the shark...

Me and the rest of the Serbian team were training when the shark arrived........it was very relaxed ,we even touched it several times.
Maybe we should put it on the competition list:)

ha! How cool is that.... it looked like a youngster as well. Best of luck for tomorrow guys and safe dives :)

Sheehs, I was much happier before reading that wiki. "The most dangerous of all sharks", sounds fun :)

I hate oceanic white tips....they are big, curious and sometimes aggressive...they sometimes bump into you actually..i remember the first time i saw one, the rest of the sharks were running away from him :) lets just say , its good i was wearing a dark wetsuit....:)

All the sharks were running away?? Now there's a thought for the freediver at the bottom plate. And food for thought for the shark....

Very interesting announcements, quite different to what I was expecting.

I would have thought some would be higher, such as Stig, Will Winram, Will Trubridge, Timo Jattu, Timo Kinnunen.

A couple of high ones that I wasn't expecting (through my own ignorance I suspect) such as Simo and Dave King (potential NR there). Massive unknown for me in Juraj Karpis, a new one to the 100+ club. And of course the top dogs - huge WR jump for Natalia at 95m, Carlos going way deep again at 103m, Herbert going for a WR in 112m and Dave Mullins going for it at 114m. Will be a brilliant day of diving!

Best of luck to everyone!

Finally someone noticing Juraj :) He was 6th at worlds in France 2 years ago, so he's not really a newbie...

Here a video from one of his training dives this year:

Wish him luck to join the 100+ club tommorow :) and all other athletes as well, the battle for the new WR will be really interesting...
