Sharm Individual World Champs - Info & Updates

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Thanks for all the updates. That Oceanic White Tip will certainly keep every one on their toes. They spend nearly all their time just below the surface scavenging so there might be some less than relaxed breathe ups!

The shark is called "Longimanus", wich could mean something like "long hands". As its hands stay horizontal... no danger, but if it puts them vertical, you could start to pray. Usually agressive but not too dangerous :martial

Great updates and tidbits, as usual. Many thanks to the DB members who are also competing! Some deep depths, too!

Maybe the shark is actually showing up to keep the bigger sharks away. He's going to be the competition's security. Keeps away any pesky submarines, too.

Tips on avoiding 'Pharoah's Revenge' while staying in Sharm:

1. Drink only bottled water.
2. Brush teeth with bottled water.
3. Salads are often washed in tap water so get vitamin C from fruit / vegetables that you have peeled.
4. Have a good supply of anti-diurhetics on hand.
5. Don't take water into your mouth whilst showering or washing your face.

Despite these precautions I still got a bit of it when I was there earlier this year - but I have heard horror stories from those who were less careful, that probably inspired my rigorous application of above measures. The deep scratches made by fingernails in the walls of some hostel WCs in Dahab probably testify the same...

Did the sun come up yet? How's the weather look? Does anyone know if Deron is OK?

haha, that made me laugh a little. sounds exactly like what people say to do when you come to mexico (where i live). although maybe sharm has far worse water than mexico (which isn't really that bad...) where is sharm anyways?

7. If all else fails, at least try to get your wetsuit off before you blow.

Sun's up and the wind seems to be even stronger than yesterday, but so far it looks like the competition will go ahead (well, not much choice really). I'm sorry to say Bill I know nothing about Deron except that in the starting list it says he's not diving.

On the video Juraj did 90m in 2:20?!? That is seriously fast!

Competition has now been running for almost 1.5 hours and seems to be going ok. Very hard to say anything about results, as it's just far enough from dry land to have a good view, but a lot of smiling people are coming out of the water. We've now reached the 50-55 group.

Haven't been following the others much, but Susanna Saari just came up smiling from a 55m dive with a white card, which makes for a new national record.

If I'm not mistaken, the wind keeps getting stronger...

Wow! Congratulations to Susanna. In strong winds aswell...
...awaiting more results. Im on my toes for the swedes. And to you Simo; good luck with your 83.

best of luck Dave King :)

Donna

Good luck from me too, Dave. You'll be the deepest UK male freediver if all goes well.

Now I know how to improve my freediving. Stop doing it for two years! :)

Liv Philip 42m
Georgina Miller 32m
Tim Money 51m

UK results so far...well done all of you!
